TRIP INFORMATION

The calm waters of the Bay of Naples reect the cliffs like mirrored glass. Citrus groves and vineyards ourish in the fertileland, nourished by the ash of brooding Mount Vesuvius. The sea and the volcano have determined the history and dened thenature, cuisine and excellent wine of the region.

For years, we've combined rambles on the Sorrento Peninsula and in the Lattari Mountains with visits to local world-classsites. At the foot of Mount Vesuvius are the sites of the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum which weredestroyed by the eruption of AD 79. Both these sites vividly evoke the past.

Sorrento, a holiday resort since Roman times, is easily accessible by train from our base, Vico Equense. The Amal coast townsof Amal and Ravello and the elegant city of Salerno to the south of the peninsula also await exploration. Near to Salernostand the magnicent Greek temples at Paestum with a world-class on-site archaeological museum.

It is also possible to spend a free day in the animated and colourful city of Naples which is richly endowed with beautifulchurches, palaces and museums, or alternatively, a trip to the romantic island of Capri is also popular and very easy.

With so much to see and do, these holidays offer a busy week or fortnight. Alternate weeks follow a different itinerary pleasecarefully check the itinerary for what is included on your chosen date – to see everything on offer you need at least twoweeks. All transport costs (we use both public and private hire transport) for the outlined programme are included in theholiday price. Entrance fees are not included to add exibility to your holiday. The two week programme will include all of theabove; the order of itinerary will depend on the travel date.

Our Dec 2020 departure is a 10 night holiday, and a chance to see in Christmas and New Year in a spectacular setting.

HOLIDAY GRADE

This Grade 4 moderate holiday includes full and half day walks at a moderate pace over hilly terrain however there are somedays that are very heavy on sightseeing as well. Half day walking will probably include about 3 hours of walking, with fulldays having around 5 hours. Expect ascents and descents of up to about 600m over the course of a day.

The terrain all along the Sorrento Peninsula is steep and whilst many of our paths contour around the hills inevitably somewalking will involve steepish ascents and descents.

Paths are generally good underfoot and the pace of our walks will be gentle. The highest point we may reach on a walk is1226m. For example the summit cone of Vesuvius is at around 1200m. For both of these walks we use local transport for themajority of the ascent.

Our bottom line is happy travellers, and to that end we trust our tour leaders to use the itinerary below as a basis for providingyou with a great holiday. We expect our leaders to make adjustments to the itinerary if the weather, group ability or other localconditions make that necessary. There are normally more options available to our leaders than those listed below and one ormore of these options may well be chosen. All distances, heights & timings are approximate.

Travelling in small groups not only gives you an up close and personal experience of your destination, but minimises your impact on the immediate environment. We feel that the most important starting point to protect theenvironment is to be out in it. For more details visit our website.

The Ramblers Holidays Charitable TrustUnlike many tour operators we have our own trust through which RWH Travel’s prots are channelled back into a variety ofoutdoor, walking-related or environmental conservation projects in the UK. The focus of the Trust’s nancial support is Britain’sleading walking charity, The Ramblers, and their role in promoting the benets and importance of walking to the British public. In addition the Trust welcomes applications for small grants from local organisations in the UK who need support for walking-orientated activities. This includes the establishment of footpaths and bridleways, funding for rebuilding bridges andrenovating huts, as well as bursary funding for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for children who could not otherwise afford todo it. Please visit the ‘About Us’ section of our website and click on the Charitable Trust link for more details.

Heart and SoleWe appreciate that we are in a fortunate position to be able to use our prots to help make a difference to people's lives. Heart& Sole is a venture managed by our ofce staff, whose aim is to reach the heart of the communities in the countries we visit.Through Heart & Sole, we hope to make more of a long term, direct impact to these communities, particularly in less developedcountries where even a small amount goes a long way. See our website for more information and details of some of theprojects we support.
