From the Committee Seasons Greetings to you all! As 2018 draws to an end, the committee would like
to sincerely thank all the staff members, coaches and volunteers for their efforts in making it a very
successful year. We would also like to thank all of our sponsors for their valuable contributions to the club
during 2018.
Club Renovations The club renovations are now completed and the
clubrooms are looking amazing. Many thanks to the City of Joondalup for funding the capital works which included a redesign of the bar and storage areas, upgrading the players area and foyer, sprucing up the bathrooms and fixing the outside paths, drainage and patio pavers. A special thank you to Anna Thrumble ,
Cath Fitzgerald and Kate Dawson for their work in refurnishing the renovated rooms with style and flair,
and to Carol Darby for her generous fundraising to contribute towards the cost of the new furniture.
Thanks again to all members, staff and visitors for your patience and cooperation during the
renovations.

Please note that the Club will need to update its Constitution before the 30 June 2019 so an
Extraordinary General Meeting will be called to approve the new Constitution and there might be changes at that time. Members will be kept fully informed during the process, so watch this space.
Club Website Please note that we have a new club website: sorrentotennisclub.com.au Thank you to Daniel Triantopolous for all of his work in setting this up.
Events Wrap Up Open Day Open day was held on October 13th to welcome in the new summer tennis season. The weather was kind to us this year and it was a great day. The
Mayor of the City of Joondalup the Hon Albert Jacob, and the member for Carine Tony Krsticevic MLA,
came along to help in the celebrations, together with our own Club Patron Mel O’Neil. The day was a wonderful success with many members, visitors and children enjoying some fun tennis and yummy food in the newly renovated facilities. Crowd favourites included the face-painting, balloon twisting, crèche, sausage sizzle and pulled pork buns. Thank you to all of the helpers who contributed to the success of this wonderful event.
Volunteer Achievement Award Finalist We congratulate Dianne Broome who was a finalist
for a Volunteer Achievement Award at the Tennis Industry Awards held on 12 October 2018. Dianne has been running the LAB program on Tuesday mornings for 9 years. The program allows young parents to get involved with tennis on Tuesday mornings during school term while their kids are being cared for in the crèche on site.
Dianne has done a fantastic job and shown a huge
level of commitment to the club over the past 19 years through her volunteering on committee positions as well as the LAB program– Congratulations Dianne!

Club Member of the Year 2017/18
Suzanne Lucas was awarded the Club Member of the Year Award 2017/18 at the Open Day presentations.
This award is usually announced at the Club Dinner which was held in May, but it was held in abeyance
because Suzanne was on the other side of the world at that time on her amazing holiday.
Suzanne has been volunteering at the club for several
years now and is always the first to put her hand up to help out with any events, tournaments, functions or busy bees. She has also been a member of the committee for 3 years now as our Ladies Captain- Congratulations to Suzanne!
OBEs OBE awards are presented to club members when they become octogenarians (Over Blooming Eighty!) Congratulations to our latest recipients:
• Margaret Martin
• Noreen Askey
• Bill Hawthorn
