My name is Maria Cameron. I live in Okotoks and have been volunteering with the Canadian Centre

for Bioethical Reform for the last seven years. Their mandate is to end abortion in Canada by educating

Canadians on the horror of abortion. At least one in four pregnancies are estimated to end in abortion. At present, there is no protection for the unborn in Canada. As long as a person is inside their mother's

womb, their life may be ended under our law. Canada is one of three countries in the world with no

laws protecting the unborn. The other two countries are China and Korea.

This year we decided to start Okotoks based activism. Our first project was to start deliveringpostcards to raise awareness about sex selection aboriton. This is to garner support for ending the

killing of girls just because they are not males. This is a matter for all Canadian voters to consider. All

Canadians can and should contact their MPs to indicate their displeasure at the status quo regarding

    abortion.

The imagery used is disgusting and appalling. We dont like it either. Abortion is disgusting and

appalling. Human rights abuses dont end on their ownthey end only when a society stands up and

demands change. And our society will only stand up and demand change when it is convinced that an

    injustice exists.

Using this imagery is legal. It is not a crime to show evidence of what happens to a child during anabortion. This has been tried and tested in the court of Canadian law. Attacking and threatening people

who use these images, however is illegal.

For people who disagree with our pro-life perspective on abortion, it makes sense that they would

object to seeing what abortion looks like. Please understand that our perspective on abortion, namely

that it kills a human being, is not based on feelings, but instead on facts.

There are others who agree with our pro-life perspective on abortion but object to our strategy. If youare one of these people, please know that we are running the campaign because there are babies alive

today because pregnant women considering abortion saw these images and changed their minds. Also,

women who regret their abortions have been moved out of denial and have sought counselling as aresult of seeing graphic images.

The history of social reform is characterized by examples of graphic images being used to dramatize

injustice and educate society. Campaigns to end slavery, child labour, civil rights abuses, and other

systematic oppression involved showing the public the humanity of the victim and the inhumanity ofhis victimization.

We recognise that children will see the pictures we are using. In our experience, children's reaction to

the signs has more to do with how their parents react. If parents become visibly upset, irate or, worse

yet, begin to shout obscenities, then children will become upset. Parents then attribute this to the signsrather then their own overwrought reaction.

Until someone tries to convince a child that abortion is okay, he will know in his heart that it is wrongto take the life of an unborn baby. Children do not want to see other children suffer. Children are

    naturally pro-life.

We suggest that parents calmly explain to children who see these pictures that we are trying to stoppeople from hurting babies. When children understand that we are working to protect other children,

they are far less likely to be upset by what they see. In fact, a child who sees the truth about abortion

may be spared grave harm later in life by avoiding any involvement with abortion.

Many of us who use these pictures first saw them as children. We found the pictures gruesome and

saddening, but their only lasting effect was to impress us with a deep sense of the injustice of abortion.

In involving children in helping to educate Canadians on this terrible matter, I have noticed that they

feel gratified to be doing something to fight abortion. When I go to do pro-life work, my children want

to come with me. They feel empowered because they are participating in ending the killing. They canappreciate the vulnerablity of unborn babies, being themselves so dependent on their parents. They

want to help their unborn brothers and sisters.
