It lasts 30”.

In an audio editor, import each of the three wavs separately, placing the guitar on the top track, then the bass, then the drum.

Add EffectsGuitar:• Apply distortion (hard overdrive).

Bass:• Add a slight reverb.

Drum:• Pan from left to right to give a sense of marching by.

• Export the audio as an mp3. Save it to your folder as ‘intro’ with your initials.

• Listen to this audio file to hear an example of a final version with these effects.

Activities inspired by Stockhausen and Reich

(a) Perform Unbegrenzt by Stockhausen.

The title means ‘Unlimited’. It is for an ensemble.

The instruction is to ‘Play a sound with the certainty that you havean infinite amount oftime and space.’

(b) Minimalism: Tapping Music (based on Reich’s Clapping Music)

With the person beside you, tap the Bar 1 rhythm on claves and woodblock. In Bar 2, the WB notes have all moved a half beat to the left, with the first quaver now placed at the end of the bar.

Write the notes for the WB part in bar 3, following the pattern. Then, try to write out all 9 bars in your copy.

Here is a screen recording of the completed piece.
