from the classroom to a career is the focus of a new intern-ship program, nex-generation, created by nex-tech/rural telephone. from june 6, 2011 to august 5, 2011, six high school students will have the opportunity to work with and learn from nex-tech/rural telephone business professionals in a fast-paced environment. along with a competitive salary, each intern will receive a new laptop that will be theirs to keep!

students will choose from six different tracks, spending ap-proximately two weeks in each track. they will receive hands-on experiences in a variety of technical and non-technical fields. upon completion of the program, students will have gained valuable skills that will help with their transition from the classroom to a career.

according to rhonda goddard, chief operating officer, “the idea for this program has deep roots in our company’s strategic planning for the future. we realize how important it is to reach young people with the message that western kansas is the best place in the world to live, work and raise a family. this is a key to maintaining economic viability in our area.”

our goal is to educate the students on how state-of-the-art technology is working for our company to provide challenging and rewarding careers in a variety of areas. there is a track for students with analytical and mechanical minds, tracks for technology and service oriented students, even tracks for visually creative students and those who wish to see the more social side of a business. we are seeking ambitious applicants that have a positive attitude and a love for western kansas.

any high school student 16 years of age by june 6, 2011 may apply, including may 2011 graduates. applicants must have a valid driver’s license and will be expected to travel to and from work by personal vehicle. the application deadline will be february 14, 2011. nex-generation information and applications will be distributed to the schools by the end of december 2010. you will also be able to find the application at www.nex-tech.com after january 1, 2011.
