Spring Events 2017

The Embassy held a series of four Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) Roadshows in Busan (Feb 17), Daegu (Feb 18), Gwangju (Feb 22) and Seoul (Mar 7). A total of four teams of Korean Alumni have submitted proposals. Thank you to everyone who participated and good luck!

Gwangju American Corner There will be an English Club at the Gwangju American Corner every Tuesday from March 28th to June 13th. Two to three native English teachers will lead each class, and college students & job seekers are welcomed to attend. For more information, please visit HERE or call 062-613-7757

Career Development Series Beginning in April, the U.S. Embassy’s American Center Korea (ACK) will host a Career Development Series, led by American lecturer Ms. Amy C. Ngai. The classes will cover (1) Resume Writing and Cover Letter Writing on April 24, (2) Preparing for an English Interview on May 22, and (3) Learning U.S. Business Culture & Etiquette on June 26. American English Club: ‘English Lounge’ Series The Embassy hosts an English Lounge Series at the American Center Korea every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. The club is led by a native English instructor and participants will be able to talk about a variety of issues in English. The topic in April will be “Climate Change and You.” RSVP HERE before April 12.

MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) for free! MOOC, short for Massive Open Online Courses, have become a powerful tool for learning ever since its emergence over a decade ago. The State Department’s Office of English Language Programs is taking full advantage of this new way of learning by creating American English MOOC programs and making them freely accessible to the public. The following sessions will be begin between the months of April and June: English for Career Development – The second part starts from April 3, 2017 English for Media Literacy – The first part starts from April 3, 2017 English for STEM fields – The first part starts from June 5, 2017 You can read more about these courses at https://americanenglish.state.gov/american-english-moocs

AYLP (Alumni Youth Leadership Program)

The Embassy has hosted the AYLP for high school students for 9 years. This year, on the program’s 10th anniversary, we are planning to engage young college students.

Wonjin “Joey” Yoo is the new Cultural Affairs Assistant responsible for English Language Programs at U.S. Embassy Seoul. Before coming aboard, he was International Program Coordinator at Seoul Women’s University and also taught English briefly in the private sector. He earned his B.A. in British & American Language & Literature at Sogang University and is currently working on his dissertation for his M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Seoul Women’s University. Joey is married and has two sons, aged 3 and 4, and he loves spending time with them. During his free time he also likes to take photos. He is looking forward to furthering the Embassy’s goals of supporting Korean alumni and educators.

The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program brings more than 100 Fulbright grantees each year to Korea to teach English in public schools across the country, focusing on regional areas outside of Seoul.
