Lab: Overview of How Exchange Server 2007 and Active Directory Work Together

After completing this lab, you will be able to explain how Active Directory and Exchange Server 2007 work together.

Estimated time to complete this lab: 30 minutes

Lab Setup You do not need to use any virtual machines for this lab.

Lab Scenario A. Datum Corporation is a consulting company specializing in enterprise Exchange Server deployments. The corporation has been asked to create high-level designs for deploying Exchange Server 2007 for several customers. The customers submitted their Active Directory configurations to A. Datum. Your job is to plan the Exchange Server deployments. The organizations need to know if they need to make any changes to their Active Directory structure before they can deploy Exchange Server 2007.

Exercise: Explaining How Exchange Server 2007 and Active Directory Work Together

Instructions In this exercise, use the following scenarios to prepare the high -level designs for each organization. Designate one of your team members as your team’s presenter, and another as your recorder. Be prepared to present your team’s solutions to the class.

Scenario 1: Tailspin Toys recently completed a buyout of Adventure Works. Both companies use Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory. Because the buyout was only recently completed, Tailspin Toys and Adventure Works each have their own separate Active Directory forest consisting of a single tree. Tailspin Toys has a single domain in its Active Directory forest named tailspintoys.com. Tailspin Toys has two physical locations in Vancouver and Miami. An Active Directory site is configured for each location.

Adventure Works also has a single domain in its Active Directory forest named adventureworks.com. Adventure Works has a single physical location in Vancouver. No Active Directory sites have been configured for adventureworks.com.

Scenario 2: Woodgrove Bank is a regional bank in the southeastern United States, encompassing five states. The head office is in Miami, and there are state offices in each of the other four states. The domain in Miami is Woodgrove.com. Other states are each in their own child domain. All users in each state log into their own sub-domain. This domain structure was originally a Microsoft Windows NT® network that has been upgraded to Windows Server 2003.

Scenario 3: Northwind Traders has an Active Directory forest with only one domain named northwindtraders.com. Northwind Traders has three physical locations, each with its own organizational unit in the domain. This network was originally a single physical location and a domain controller was added for each physical location. Active Directory is running with the default configuration, and users occasionally complain about slow logons.

Discussion Questions After the teams have delivered their solutions to the class, answer the following questions:

Q What are the components that Exchange Server relies on and which need to be in place?

A Exchange Server relies on Active Directory to function properly, such as the required correct placement of domain controllers and global catalog servers. DNS must also be properly implemented to allow Exchange servers and clients to query information for Active Directory.

Q For scenario 1, what Active Directory changes should be made? A The two existing Active Directory forests should be merged into a single forest. This

enables them to have a single Exchange Server organization with a single global address list. They may also consider migrating into a single domain with multiple OUs, but this would not affect the Exchange Server deployment.

Q For scenario 1, what Active Directory sites should be configured? A A site should be configured for each physical location. Three Active Directory sites

should be created for Miami, Vancouver Tailspin Toys, and Vancouver Adventure Works. If network links are fast enough, it may be possible to combine both Vancouver locations into a single site.

Q For scenario 1, where should deployment of domain controllers and global catalog servers occur?

A Domain controllers and global catalog servers should be implemented at each site with a computer running Exchange Server. The current configuration has a separate domain for each site and should have a domain controller and global catalog server for each site.

Q For scenario 2, what Active Directory changes should be made? A No Active Directory changes are required, although consideration could be given to

migrating to a single domain.

Q For scenario 2, what Active Directory sites should be configured? A A site should be configured for each physical location. Five Active Directory sites

should be created for Miami and the four other states.

A Domain controllers and global catalog servers should be implemented at each site with a computer running Exchange Server. The current configuration has a separate domain for each site and should have a domain controller and global catalog server for each site.

Q For scenario 3, what Active Directory changes should be made? A No Active Directory changes are required.

Q For scenario 3, what Active Directory sites should be configured? A A: A site should be configured for each physical location. Three Active Directory

sites should be created. The current slow logon problem is indicative of sites not being configured.

Q For scenario 3, where should domain controllers and global catalog servers be deployed?

A Domain controllers and global catalog servers should be implemented at each site with a computer running Exchange Server. The domain controller at each site should also be configured as a global catalog server.

Q When scaled out, why does routing become critical? A In a small organization with a single site, routing is relatively unimportant because

communication among all of the servers is fast and reliable. In a larger organization, with many physical sites, routing is important. When the large organization’s physical sites are poorly implemented, such as when site links are configured with incorrect costs (causing inefficient routing), unnecessary network traffic is created that overwhelms network links. In addition, incorrectly configured routing may result in unreliable message delivery.

Q Will your organization need to make changes to your Active Directory configuration before deploying Exchange Server 2007?

A Answers will vary. However, in most cases, students will already have a well defined Active Directory structure implemented. This structure will likely have been in place for some time. The most common change would be to refine the sites and site links.

Lab 1: Installing Exchange Server 2007

After completing this lab, you will be able to:

• Prepare the environment for an Exchange Server 2007 installation. • Install Exchange Server 2007.

Estimated time to complete this lab: 40 minutes

Lab Setup For this lab, you will use the available virtual machine environment. Before you begin the lab, you must:

• Ensure that all virtual machines have been shut down. • On 5047B-SYD-LAB, the E drive should be mapped to C:\Program Files\Microsoft

Learning\5047\Drives\Exchange2007SP1.iso. It will appear in Windows Explorer as Exchange2007 (E:). If the .iso file is not connected, complete the following steps to connect it: On the host computer, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft

Virtual Server, and then click Virtual Server Administration Website.

Under Navigation, click Master Status, and then click 5047B-SYD-LAB. In the context menu, click Edit Configuration. In the CD/DVD area, ensure that the line ISO image “Exchange2007Setup.iso” is listed. If it is not, complete the following steps.

Under “5047B-SYD-LAB” Configuration, click CD/DVD.

On the “5047B-SYD-LAB” CD/DVD Drive Properties page, click Known image files. In the Fully qualified path to file text box, type C:\Program Files\ Microsoft Learning\5047\Drives\Exchange2007SP1.iso. Click OK.

Note: If you are using a 64 bit host computer, you will need to type c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Learning\5047\Drives\Exchange2007SP1.iso as the path.

• To start the lab, start the Microsoft Learning Lab Launcher by double-clicking the 5047B shortcut on the desktop, and clicking Launch beside 5047B-SYD-LAB. After the computer starts, log on using the following credentials: • User name: Administrator

• Password: Pa$$w0rd

• Domain: NORTHWINDTRADER

Lab Scenario You are a new messaging administrator for A. Datum Corporation, an enterprise-level organization. A. Datum is planning to upgrade their existing Exchange Server 2003 organization to Exchange Server 2007. However, in preparation for the upgrade, a test environment is being configured to enable the existing messaging administrators to become familiar with the new Exchange Server 2007 features.

Exercise 1: Preparing the Environment for Exchange Server 2007

In this exercise, you will ensure that the environment is ready for a new installation of Exchange Server 2007.

Scenario A server running Windows Server 2003 has been configured for you in the test lab. Before installing Exchange Server 2007 on the server, you must ensure that it meets the necessary requirements. This should be a typical install, which includes the Mailbox server role, Client Access server role, and Hub Transport server role.

Tasks Supporting information

1. Verify the operating system meets Exchange Server 2007 requirements.

• View the operating system version in the properties of Computer.

2. Verify that Internet Information Services (IIS) is not installed.

• Open the Administrative Tools menu to verify that Internet Information Services (IIS) is not listed.

3. Install the Web Server (IIS) server role.

• In Server Manager, add the Web Server (IIS) server role with the following additional role services:

• ISAPI Extensions • Basic Authentication • Windows Authentication • Digest Authentication • Dynamic Content Compression • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility • IIS 6 Management Console.

4. Install the Windows PowerShell feature.

• In Server Manager, install the Windows PowerShell feature

5. Verify the DNS settings. • Open DNS in Administrative Tools. • View the records in _tcp.dc._msdcs.Northwindtraders.com. • Verify that that SYD-LAB is a domain controller and that the

DNS records for SYD-LAB are present. • Open a Command Prompt window and run ipconfig /all.

Notice that the server is using 127.0.0.1 as the DNS server. This means it is using itself for DNS.

Tasks Supporting information

6. Review hardware requirements.

• In the Properties of Computer, view the processor and memory configuration. This computer has a 32-bit processor and insufficient memory for production deployment. However, this is sufficient for testing purposes.

• View the available disk space and partition format in the properties of the D drive. There is enough free disk space to install Exchange Server 2007, and the disk is formatted as NTFS.

7. Review software requirements.

• Open Active Directory Users and Computers. • In the properties of the domain, raise the domain functional

level to Windows Server 2008 functional level. • Close Active Directory Users and Computers.

8. Prepare Active Directory for Exchange Server 2007 installation.

• Open a Command Prompt window and run D:\setup.com /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:“NorthWind Traders”.

• When the setup operation has completed successfully, the command prompt will close automatically.

Exercise 2: Installing Exchange Server 2007

Introduction In this exercise, you will perform the Exchange Server 2007 installation. Based on the messaging engineer’s instructions, the first server you are configuring for the test environment is a typical installation.

Tasks Supporting information

• Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

• Perform a typical installation of Exchange Server 2007 to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server and accept the default options except: • Allow Outlook 2003 clients.

Note: The answers to the labs are on the Student Materials CD.

Important: Do not shut down the virtual machine. You will verify the Exchange Server installation in the next lab.

Lab 2: Verifying an Exchange Server 2007 Installation

After completing this lab, you will be able to verify an Exchange Server installation.

Estimated time to complete this lab: 40 minutes

Lab Setup For this lab, you will use the available virtual machine environment. Before you begin the lab, you must:

• Ensure that the 5047B-SYD-LAB virtual machine is running, and log on, using the following: • User name: Administrator

• Password: Pa$$w0rd

• Domain: NORTHWINDTRADER

Lab Scenario The messaging engineer has provided you with a design document and server configuration specifications. You need to prepare a Windows Server 2003 computer to install Exchange Server 2007 and then verify the installation.

Exercise: Verifying an Exchange Server 2007 Installation

Introduction In this exercise, you will verify an Exchange Server 2007 installation. The messaging engineer has left you a series of post-installation verification steps to perform after your default installation is complete.

To verify the configuration of your server, you will:

• View the Exchange Server services. • View the Exchange Server folders. • Send a test message. • Run the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool.

Tasks Supporting information

1. View the Exchange Server services.

• Open the Services console. • Read the description for each Exchange Server service.

2. View the Exchange Server folders.

• Using Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files\ Microsoft\Exchange Server. This list of folders includes ClientAccess, Mailbox, and TransportRoles. The three roles were installed as part of the typical setup.

3. Install and configure a new user mailbox.

• Open the Exchange Management Console. • By right-clicking Recipient Configuration, create a new mailbox for

the Administrator account. • By right-clicking Recipient Configuration, create a new mailbox

with a new user account named TestUser and a password of Pa$$w0rd.

4. Send a test message. • Using Internet Explorer, open http://SYD-LAB/owa. • Log on as TestUser and send a message to Administrator. • Close Internet Explorer.

5. Read the test message. • Using Internet Explorer, open http://SYD-LAB/owa. • Log on as Administrator and read the message from TestUser. • Close the test message.

6. Configure the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer.

• Open the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer from the Toolbox in the Exchange Management Console.

• Select the options to not check for updates and not join the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program. The virtual machine does not have Internet connectivity.

7. Run a scan using the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer.

• Run a health check scan and identify it as Post-Installation Test.

8. View the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer report.

• After the scan is complete, view the report. • Read the Offline address book definition is missing issue on the

Critical Issues tab and prevent it from displaying again. • View additional information about how to resolve this issue.

Lab Setup For this lab, you will use the available virtual machine environment. Before you begin the lab, you must:

Ensure that all virtual machines have been shut down from the previous exercises.

Start the 5047B-SYD-DC1, 5047B-SYD-EX2, and 5047B-SYD-CL1 virtual machines, and then log on, using the following:

• User name: Administrator • Password: Pa$$w0rd • Domain: Adatum

Important: When you start the virtual machines, ensure that you start 5047B-SYD-DC1 first and that it is fully started before starting any other virtual machines. If you receive a notification that one or more services failed to start when starting a virtual machine, open the Services console on the virtual machine and ensure that all Microsoft Exchange services that are configured to start automatically are started.

Lab Scenario You have been asked to install and configure an Exchange server. You are going to add users, so you need to create two databases in separate storage groups. There are different storage requirements for each set of users.

Exercise 1: Configuring Storage Group and Database Files In this exercise, you will create storage groups and databases by using the Exchange Management Console and the Exchange Management Shell. In addition, you will configure mailbox storage limits.

Scenario The messaging engineer left instructions indicating that you need to create a storage group and configure a database for the executive group and a storage group and database for the accounting group. The executive’s database should be configured with no mailbox limits. The accounting group’s database should be configured so that the mailbox does not send messages after the mailbox size reaches 100 MB.

Tasks Supporting information

1. Create a storage group for the executive group by using the Exchange Management Console.

• On SYD-DC1, open the Exchange Management Console. • In the console tree, browse to the Mailbox node under Server

Configuration. • Create a new storage group on SYD-DC1 named Exec and

accept the default file system locations.

2. Create a database for the executive group.

• Create a new mailbox database named ExecMail in the Exec storage group and accept the default file system location.

3. Configure no mailbox limits for the executive group.

• Open the properties of ExecMail. • Remove all mailbox limits. • Close the Exchange Management Console.

4. Create a storage group for the accounting group by using the Exchange Management Shell.

• Start the Exchange Management Shell. • Create the Acct storage group on SYD-DC1 with default options

by using the New-StorageGroup cmdlet. • Server: SYD-DC1

• List the storage groups on SYD-DC1 by using the Get-StorageGroup cmdlet. • Server: SYD-DC1

5. Create a database for the accounting group.

• Using the Exchange Management Shell, create the AcctMail mailbox database in the Acct storage group by using the New-MailboxDatabase cmdlet. • StorageGroup: SYD-DC1\Acct • Name: AcctMail

• List the mailbox databases on SYD-DC1 by using the Get-MailboxDatabase cmdlet. • Server: SYD-DC1

in the Exchange Management Console. • After verifying the configuration changes, mount the AcctMail

Exercise 2: Configuring a Public Folder and Store Referrals In this exercise, you will create a new storage group for public folders, create public folders, and replicate public folder contents between two servers.

Scenario Both the executive group and the accounting group need a public folder to store shared information. To make the public folders fault-tolerant, they must be replicated between two Mailbox servers.

Tasks Supporting information

1. Create a storage group for public folders on SYD-EX2.

• On SYD-EX2, open the Exchange Management Console. • Create a new storage group named Replicas on SYD-EX2 using

the default file locations.

2. Create a new public folder database on SYD-EX2.

• Create a new public folder database named ReplicaDB in the Replicas storage group using the default file system location.

• Close the Exchange Management Console.

3. Create a new public folder for the executive group by using Outlook.

• On SYD-CL1, log on as Administrator. • Open Outlook and create the Executive public folder by using the

folder list.

4. Create a new public folder for the accounting group on SYD-DC1 by using the Exchange Management Console.

• On SYD-DC1, start the Exchange Management Console. • In the Public Folder Management Console, create a new

public folder named Accounting.

5. Replicate the Executive and Accounting public folders on SYD-DC1 and SYD-EX2.

• Configure the Executive public folder with replicas on SYD-DC1 and SYD-EX2 by using the Public Folder Management Console.

• Configure the Accounting public folder with replicas on SYD-DC1 and SYD-EX2.

• View the configuration for each folder to verify the replicas by using the Get-PublicFolder cmdlet.

6. Disable Public folder referrals on SYD-DC1.

• Disable public folder referrals on SYD-DC1 by using the Set-PublicFolderDatabase cmdlet. • Identity: “SYD-DC1\Public Folder Database” • UseCustomReferralServerList: $true • PublicFolderReferralServerList: $null

• Close the Exchange Management Shell.

Lab Setup For this lab, you will use the available virtual machine environment. Before you begin the lab, you must:

Ensure that all virtual machines have been shut down from previous exercises.

Start the 5047B-SYD-DC1 and 5047B-SYD-CL1 virtual machines, and then log on to SYD-DC1 using the following:

• User name: Administrator • Password: Pa$$w0rd • Domain: Adatum

Important: When you start the virtual machines, ensure that you start 5047B-SYD-DC1 first and that it is fully started before starting any other virtual machines. If you receive a notification that one or more services failed to start when starting a virtual machine, open the Services console on the virtual machine and ensure that all Microsoft Exchange services that are configured to start automatically are started.

Lab Scenario You work for A. Datum, an enterprise-level organization. A. Datum has recently acquired Alpine Ski House. You need to add Alpine Ski House employees to your messaging organization.

To prepare for the lab To prepare for the lab, complete the following steps.

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Shell.

2. At the PS prompt, type New-StorageGroup SalesSG and press ENTER.

3. At the PS prompt, type New-MailboxDatabase SalesDB –StorageGroup SalesSG and press ENTER.

4. At the PS prompt, type Mount-Database SalesDB and press ENTER.

5. Close the Exchange Management Shell.

Scenario The messaging engineer for your organization has imported some of the mailboxes from Alpine Ski House into your messaging system. However, not all configurations of those mailboxes are complete. The messaging engineer has left you a list of configuration tasks.

• On SYD-DC1, in the Exchange Management Console, locate Axel Delgado’s account.

• Use the Manage Send As Permission tool to assign permission to Toby Nixon.

• Log on to SYD-CL1 as Toby with the password of Pa$$w0rd and start Outlook.

• Send a message as Axel Delgado to Administrator. • Log on to SYD-CL1 as Administrator to view the message in

Outlook. Notice that it indicates the message is from Axel Delgado even though it was sent by Toby Nixon.

• Log off of SYD-CL1.

Exercise 2: Configuring New Mailboxes and Mail-Enabled Objects

Scenario In addition to editing existing mailboxes, the messaging engineer left you a number of tasks for creating new mailboxes and mail-enabled objects. Mailboxes need to be created for the existing Marketing users and one new Marketing user. Additionally, a new contact needs to be created in the Contacts folder. Exchange Server distribution groups also need to be created for the marketing users and contractors. Finally, the Secret Project Exchange server distribution group needs to be modified so that only members of the group can send messages to it.

Tasks Supporting information

1. Create mailboxes for all users in the Alpine/Marketing organizational unit (OU).

• Use the Recipient Picker Scope option in the New Mailbox Wizard to select all users in the OU.

• Create the mailboxes in the SYD-DC1\Mailbox Database. •

You are going to create a resource mailbox for the room and verify that bookings are taken automatically.

Additionally, he would like you to work with Toby Nixon to test the recovery of deleted items and mailboxes.

• Configure forms-based authentication to require only a user name. • Disable direct file access for public computers. • Block access to bitmap (*.bmp) image files. • Allow remote access to file servers.

1. Configure forms-based authentication for Outlook Web Access.

• Open the Exchange Management Console. • Open the properties of owa (Default Web Site) on the Outlook

3. Click Step 4: Install Microsoft Exchange. The installation begins by copying files.

4. Click Next to begin Exchange Server 2007 Setup.

5. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.

6. Click No to disable error reporting and then click Next. You are disabling error

reporting because your virtual machine does not have access to the Internet.

7. Click Typical Exchange Server Installation,and click Next.

8. Click Yes to configure Exchange Server for Outlook 2003 and earlier clients, and

then click Next. A readiness check takes place to ensure that Exchange is ready to be

installed on the server. This will take several minutes to complete.

9. Click Install. The installation begins. This will take about 25 minutes to complete.

10. Click Finish. In the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 dialog box, click OK. The

Exchange Management Console opens by default. A list of finalization steps is

displayed for each Exchange Server role installed on this computer.

11. Click OK to acknowledge that the Exchange server is unlicensed.

12. Close the Exchange Management Console.

13. Click Close and Yes to exit Exchange Server 2007 Setup. You are not obtaining the

critical updates for Exchange Server 2007 because the virtual machine does not have

Internet connectivity.

description. Take note of which services are running and which are not.

Task 1: Create a storage group for the executive group by using the

2. If necessary, in the console tree, expand Server Configuration, and then click

Mailbox.

3. If necessary, in the result pane, click SYD-DC1.

4. In the action pane, click New storage group.

5. In the Storage Group Name box, type Exec and press TAB. Notice that the default

location for these files is E:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\Exec.

The wizard automatically creates the Exec folder.

6. Click New to accept the default location.

Task 2: Create a database for the executive group

1. In the work pane, right-click Exec, and then click New Mailbox Database.

3. Click New.

displays all of the mailbox databases on SYD-DC1. Notice that AcctMail is created

Exercise 1: Modifying Existing User Mailboxes

Task 1: Filter the view to only Alpine Ski House recipients

Task 1: Create mailboxes for all users in the Alpine/Marketing

organizational unit (OU)

click New Mailbox.

2. Click Next to accept the default user mailbox.

3. Click Existing users, and then click Add.

4. In the Select User –Adatum.com dialog box, click Scope, and then click Modify

Recipient Picker Scope.

5. In the Recipient Picker Scope dialog box, click Browse, expand Alpine, and then

click Marketing. Click OK twice.

6. Press CTRL + A to select all of the users, click OK, and then click Next. This new

Exchange Server 2007 SP1 feature enables you to create mailboxes for multiple users

at one time.

7. On the Mailbox Settings page, click Browse. Click Mailbox Database on SYD-

DC1 and click OK. Click Next.

8. Click New to create the mailboxes, and then click Finish.

Task 2: Create the new marketing user David Jones

1. If necessary, in the console tree, expand Recipient Configuration, and then click

Mailbox.

2. Right-click Mailbox, and then click New Mailbox.

3. Click Next to accept the default option of User Mailbox.

4. Click Next to accept the default option of New user.

5. Beside Organizational unit, click Browse. In the Select Organizational Unit

Task 2: Delete and recover an item from Toby Nixon’s mailbox

1. Log on to SYD-CL1 as Toby with a password of Pa$$w0rd.

2. Click Start, and then click E-mail.

3. In the Inbox pane, right-click the first message, and then click Delete.

4. In the left pane, right-click Deleted items and then click Empty “Deleted Items”

Folder. Click Yes.

5. Click the Tools menu, and then click Recover Deleted Items.

6. Click the Select All button, and then click Recover Selected Items button. The

deleted items appear in Deleted Items folder.

7. Close Outlook.

Task 3: Delete and reconnect Toby Nixon’s mailbox

1. On SYD-DC1, in the Exchange Management Console, expand Recipient

Exercise 1: Managing E-Mail Address Policies

Task 1: Add adventure-works.com as an accepted domain

1. Log on SYD-DC1 as Administrator with a password of Pa$$w0rd.

2. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and

then click Exchange Management Console.

3. In the console tree, expand Organization Configuration, and then click Hub

Transport.

4. Click the Accepted Domains tab.

5. In the action pane, click New Accepted Domain.

6. In the Name box, type Adventure Works.

7. In the Accepted Domain box, type adventure-works.com.

8. Click New to accept the default of an authoritative domain.

9. Read the Completion information, and then click Finish.

Task 2: Create an e-mail address policy for Adventure Works users

1. Click the E-mail Address Policies tab.

2. In the action pane, click New E-mail Address Policy.

3. In the Name box, type Adventure Works.

4. Click The following specific types, select Users with Exchange mailboxes, and

then click Next.

5. In the Step 1: Select conditions box, select Recipient is in a Company.

6. In the Step 2: Edit the condition(s) box, click the specified link.

7. Type Adventure Works, click Add, and then click OK.

8. Click Next.

9. In the E-mail Addresses page, click Add.

10. In the SMTP E-mail Address dialog box, click First name.last name (john.smith).

Click Select accepted domain for e-mail address, and then click Browse.

11. Click Adventure Works, and then click OK twice.

12. Click Next.

13. Click Next to apply the e-mail address policy immediately.

Task 3: Add alpineskihouse.com as an accepted domain

1. In the action pane, click New Accepted Domain.

3. In the Accepted Domain box, type alpineskihouse.com.

4. Click New to accept the default of an authoritative domain.

5. Read the Completion Summary, and then click Finish.

Task 4: Create an e-mail address policy for the Alpine Ski House users

1. Click the E-mail Address Policies tab.

2. In the action pane, click New E-mail Address Policy.

3. In the Name box, type Alpine Ski House.

4. Click The following specific types, select Users with Exchange mailboxes, and

then click Next.

5. In the Step 1: Select conditions box, select Recipient is in a Company.

6. In the Step 2: Edit the condition(s) box, click the specified link.

7. Type Alpine Ski House, click Add, and then click OK.

8. Click Next.

9. In the E-mail Addresses page, click Add.

1. In the result pane, double-click Default Policy.

2. Click Next twice to access the E-mail Addresses page.

3. Click Add, and then click First name.last name (john.smith).

4. Click Select accepted domain for e-mail address, and then click Browse.

5. Click Adventure Works, and then click OK twice.

6. Click Add, and then click First name.last name (john.smith)..

10. If necessary, click Immediately, and then click Next.

Task 6: Verify that addresses were applied to A. Datum users

1. In the console tree, expand Recipient Configuration, and then click Mailbox.

2. In the result pane, right-click Brian Cox, and then click Properties.

3. Click the E-mail Addresses tab, and then confirm that Brian has an e-mail address

for all three domains and Adatum.com is the primary (reply) address.

4. Click Cancel and then close the Exchange Management Console.

Exercise 2: Managing Address Lists

Task 1: Create an empty container mail list named Companies

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange

Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Console.

2. In the console tree, expand Organization Configuration, click Mailbox, and then

click the Address Lists tab.

3. In the action pane, click New Address List.

4. In the Name box, type Companies.

5. In the Container box, accept the default value of \.

6. Under Include these recipient types, click None, and then click New.

7. Read the Completion Summary, and then click Finish.

Task 2: Create a new address list for Adventure Works in Companies

1. In the action pane, click New Address List.

Task 4: Verify that the new address books are available in Microsoft

Office Outlook®

1. On SYD-CL1, log on as Administrator with a password of Pa$$w0rd.

2. Click Start, and then click E-mail.

3. Click the Tools menu, and then click Address Book.

4. Under Address Book, click the down arrow to display the options. You can see that

under All Address Lists, the Companies container is listed and it includes the

address lists Adventure Works and Alpine Ski House.

5. Close all open windows and log off SYD-CL1.

Task 5: Create a new offline address book for the Adventure Works and

Alpine Ski House address lists

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange

Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Console.

2. If necessary, in the console tree, expand Organization Configuration, click

Mailbox, and then click the Offline Address Book tab.

3. In the action pane, click New Offline Address Book.

4. In the Name box, type Companies.

5. Click Browse, select SYD-DC1, and then click OK.

6. Clear the Include the default Global Address List check box.

7. Select Include the following address lists.

8. Click Add, expand Companies, click Adventure Works, and then click OK.

9. Click Add, expand Companies, click Alpine Ski House, and then click OK.

10. Click Next.

11. Select Enable public folder distribution and click Next.

12. Read the Configuration Summary, and then click New.

Exercise 3: Performing Recipient Bulk Management Tasks

Task 1: Add a header line to a .csv file

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Notepad.

2. Click the File menu, click Open.

3. Change the Files of Type to All Files.

4. Browse to D:\5047\Labfiles\Users.csv, and then click Open.

5. At the top of the file, replace Add Header Here with

FirstName,LastName,Password,Company. This header is used by the Import-CSV

cmdlet to name each column of imported information. These names then can be

referenced to view and manipulate information.

6. Click the File menu, and then click Save.

7. Close Notepad.

Task 2: Modify the CreateUsersLab.ps1 script to import Adventure Works

users from a .csv file

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Notepad.

2. Click the File menu, click Open.

3. Change the Files of Type to All Files.

4. Select D:\5047\Labfiles\CreateUsersLab.ps1, and then click Open.

5. In Section 1, define $db as SYD-DC1\Mailbox Database.

6. In Section 1, define $upndom as adatum.com.

Exercise 1: Managing Mobile Device Connectivity

Task 1: Disable SSL for Exchange ActiveSync

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet

Information Services (IIS) Manager.

2. In Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, expand SYD-DC1

(ADATUM\administrator), expand Sites, expand Default Web Site, and then click

Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync.

3. In the center pane, double-click SSL settings.

4. Clear the Require SSL check box, and click Apply. Close Internet Information

Services (IIS) Manager.

Note: SSL is not being used in this exercise because the mobile device emulator does not trust the certification authority for the Adatum domain. ActiveSync cannot use SSL unless the device trusts the certificate on the server used for SSL. Additional software is required to import trusted root certificates in Windows mobile. Windows Mobile automatically trusts certificates issued by a third-party certification authority.

Task 2: Configure an external URL for the Microsoft® Server ActiveSync®

virtual directory

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange

Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Console.

2. In the console tree, expand Server Configuration, and then click Client Access.

3. In the result pane, click SYD-DC1.

4. In the work pane, click the Exchange ActiveSync tab.

5. Right-click Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, and then click Properties.

6. In the External URL box, type http://SYD-DC1.adatum.com/Microsoft-Server-

ActiveSync and then click OK. Then click OK again to acknowledge the warning.

Task 3: Create a new Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy

1. In the console tree, expand Organization Configuration, and then click Client

Access.

2. Create a new Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy, using the following steps:

a. In the action pane, click New Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policy.

b. In the Mailbox policy name box, type Sales Policy.

c. Select the Allow non-provisionable devices option. This allows devices that

cannot be configured automatically.

d. Confirm that the Allow attachments to be downloaded to device option is

selected. This option is required for mobile devices to synchronize attachments

and store them locally on the device.

e. Select the Require password box, and then click New.

f. Read the Completion summary, and then click Finish.

3. Right-click Sales Policy, and then click Properties.

4. On the Sync Settings tab, select the Maximum attachment size (KB) option, and

enter 1024.

5. In the Include past e-mail items list, click One Week.

6. On the Device tab, clear the Allow camera and Allow Internet sharing for the

device check boxes. Click OK.

Task 4: Configure Toby Nixon to use Sales Policy

1. In the console tree, expand Recipient Configuration, and then click Mailbox.

2. In the result pane, right-click Toby Nixon, and then click Properties.

3. Configure the Sales Policy for Toby Nixon, using the following steps:

a. Click the Mailbox Features tab, click Exchange ActiveSync, and then click

Properties in the Toby Nixon Properties dialog box.

b. In the Exchange ActiveSync Properties dialog box, click Browse.

c. Select Sales Policy, and then click OK.

d. Click OK twice to save and apply the changes.

4. Close the Exchange Management Console.

Task 5: Connect to Exchange ActiveSync

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to All Programs, click Windows Mobile 6 SDK,

click Standalone Emulator Images, and then under US English, click Professional.

2. Configure the emulator network card, using the following steps:

a. In the Windows Mobile 6 Professional window, on the File menu, click

Configure.

b. On the Network tab, select the Enable NE2000 PCMCIA network adapter

and bind to check box, and then click OK.

c. Wait until the emulator finishes booting. In Windows Mobile 6 Professional,

click Start, and then click Settings.

d. Click the Connections tab, and then click Network Cards.

e. On the Configure Network Adapters page, under My network card connects

to, click The Internet.

f. Double-click NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver.

g. Click Use specific IP address, and then type 10.10.0.50 as the IP address,

255.255.0.0 as the subnet mask, and 10.10.0.1 as the default gateway.

h. On the Name Servers tab, type 10.10.0.10 as the DNS server address. Click OK

three times. Close the Settings window.

3. In Windows Mobile 6 Professional , click Start, click Programs, and then click

ActiveSync.

4. Configure Exchange ActiveSync, using the following steps:

a. Read the Exchange ActiveSync information, and then click the Set up your

device to sync with it link.

b. In the Server Address box, type SYD-DC1.adatum.com and then remove the

check box next to This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection. Click

OK.

c. Click Next.

d. In the User name box, type Toby.

e. In the Password box, type Pa$$w0rd.

f. In the Domain box, type Adatum.

g. Select the Save password check box, and then click Next.

5. Configure Calendar synchronization using the following steps:

a. In the Choose the data you wish to synchronize box, click Calendar, and then

click Settings.

b. In the Synchronize only the past list, click All, and then in the upper-right

corner, click OK.

6. Configure e-mail synchronization, using the following steps:

a. In the Choose the data you wish to synchronize box, click E-Mail, and then

click Settings.

b. In the Download the past list, click All, and then in the upper-right corner, click

OK.

c. Confirm that the four check boxes are selected, and then click Finish.

5. In the ActiveSync dialog box, click OK.

6. In the Update Required dialog box, click OK.

7. In the Password box and the Confirm box, type 1234, and then click OK in the top

right corner.

8. After synchronization is complete, click the X in the upper-right corner to close

Exchange ActiveSync.

9. Close the Programs window.

Task 6: Test Exchange ActiveSync features

1. Open Internet Explorer and connect to https://syd-dc1.adatum.com/owa.

2. Click Continue to this website (not recommended).

3. Log on as Adatum\Gregory using the password Pa$$w0rd.

4. Click OK to accept the default language and time settings.

5. Create a new message for Toby, using the following steps:

a. Click New, and then in the To field, type Toby, and then press CTRL+K to

resolve the name.

b. In the Subject line, type Test Message from Gregory.

c. In the message body, type Testing mobile messaging, and then click Send.

6. On Windows Mobile 6 Professional, wait a minute and then notice the animated

Synchronization arrows indicating that the device is synchronizing automatically.

Synchronization was triggered by the message’s arrival in Toby’s mailbox. Wait for

the mobile device to complete synchronization.

7. At the bottom of the Today screen, view the notification stating that a new message

has arrived from Gregory.

8. Click View and read the message.

9. Reply to the message, using the following steps:

a. Click Reply at the bottom of the message window.

b. In the message body, type Test Reply, and then click Send.

c. Wait until the device finishes synchronizing, and then in Outlook Web Access,

click the Check Messages icon or press F5 to refresh the screen, and then

confirm that the message from Toby was received.

10. Create a new appointment, using the following steps:

a. In Outlook Web Access, click Calendar, and then click New.

b. Click Scheduling Assistant, and then in the Select Attendees column, under

Gregory Weber, type Toby.

c. On the Appointment tab, in the Subject line, type Management Meeting.

d. In the Location box, type Executive Meeting Room.

e. Select a time in the next week for the meeting.

f. Click Send.

11. Accept the meeting request, using the following steps:

a. In Windows Mobile 6 Professional, wait for the device to synchronize.

b. Open the device’s Inbox if it is not already open. After the Inbox is in sync, click

the meeting request at the top of the message list.

c. Click Accept at the bottom of the Messaging window, ensure that Send the

response now is selected, and then click OK.

d. Click OK in the upper-right corner to close the message.

e. Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Inbox.

Task 7: Wipe Toby Nixon’s device

1. On SYD-DC1, in the Exchange Management Console, under Recipient

Configuration, click Mailbox.

2. In the result pane, click Toby Nixon.

3. In the action pane, click Refresh.

4. In the action pane, click Manage mobile device.

5. On the Manage Mobile Device page, click Perform a remote wipe to clear mobile

device data, and then click Clear.

6. In the Microsoft Exchange warning message, click Yes, and then click Finish.

7. In Windows Mobile 6 Professional, wait for the device to synchronize. You can also

force synchronization by opening Exchange ActiveSync and then clicking Sync.

Confirm that the device is wiped. If the device goes blank, it is rebooting after

performing the remote wipe.

8. On the Windows Mobile 6 Professional window File menu, click Exit.

9. In the Device Emulator dialog box, click No.

10. On SYD-DC1, open Internet Explorer and connect to https://syd-dc1/owa. On the

Certificate Error page, click Continue to this website (not recommended).

11. Log on as adatum\Administrator using the password Pa$$w0rd.

12. Click OK. Verify that the administrator received an email indicating that Toby

Nixon’s mobile device has been wiped.

Exercise 2: Managing Outlook Web Access

Task 1: Configure forms-based authentication for OWA

1. In the Exchange Management Console, if required, expand Server Configuration,

and then click Client Access.

2. On the Outlook Web Access tab, right-click owa (Default Web Site), and then click

Properties.

3. Click the Authentication tab, and under Use forms based authentication, click

User name only.

4. Click the Browse button, click Adatum.com, and then click OK.

5. Click OK to save the changes.

6. Click OK to acknowledge the warning.

7. Click Start, click Command Prompt. At the command prompt, type iisreset

/noforce, and then press ENTER. If you receive a response that the Internet services

were successfully restarted, close the command prompt. If you receive a response

that the Internet services were stopped but failed to start, type iisreset /start and

press ENTER. Verify that the services started and close the command prompt.

Task 2: Configure Windows SharePoint Services and Windows Files

Shares integration

1. In the Exchange Management Console, on the Outlook Web Access tab, right-click

owa (Default Web Site) and then click Properties.

2. Click the Public Computer File Access tab and then clear te Enable direct file

access check box.

3. Click the Private Computer Files Access tab and then click the Customize button

for direct file access.

4. Click the Allow button.

5. Select .bmp and then click the red x.

6. Select image/bmp and then click the red x.

7. Click OK.

8. Click the Block button.

9. In the Enter the file extensions for which you want to block, one at a time box,

type .bmp, click Add, and then click OK.

Note: In cases where there is a conflict between file access management settings, the following precedence applies. Allow overrides Block and Force Save. Block overrides Force Save. For example, if .doc files are configured as a blocked file type and an allowed file type, .doc files will be allowed.

10. Click OK to close the Direct File Access Settings dialog box.

11. Click the Remote File Servers tab, and then under Unknown Servers, select Allow.

12. Click OK to close the owa (Default Web Site) Properties dialog box.

Task 3: Send Test Messages with Attachments

1. Open Internet Explorer, and connect to https://syd-dc1.adatum.com/owa.

2. Click Continue to this Website (not recommended).

3. Click This is a public or shared computer.

4. Log on as Gregory with a password of Pa$$w0rd. The domain name is not required

because the authentication configuration was changed earlier in this exercise.

5. Click OK to accept the default language and time settings.

6. Click New, in the To box, type Toby, in the Subject box, and then type Word

Document.

7. Click the Attachment icon, type \\syd-dc1\Corpdata\ExpenseReport.doc, and then

click Attach.

8. Click Send.

9. Click New, in the To box, type Toby, in the Subject box, and then type BMP File.

10. Click the Attachment icon, type \\syd-dc1\Corpdata\image.bmp, and then click

Attach.

11. Click Send.

12. Close Internet Explorer.

Test Windows SharePoint Services and Windows Files Shares integration

from a Public Computer

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. In the Address bar, type https://syd-dc1.adatum.com/owa, and then click Go.

5. Log on as Toby with a password of Pa$$w0rd. The domain name is not required

because the authentication configuration was changed earlier in this exercise.

6. Click the Word Document message from Gregory.

7. Right-click ExpenseReport.doc and view the available options. You can save this

file because you are accessing mail from a private computer.

8. Click the BMP File message from Gregory. Notice that Toby does not have any

access to the BMP file that was attached.

9. In the left pane, click Documents, and then click Open Location.

10. In the Open Location dialog box, type \\SYD-DC1\Corpdata and then click Open.

Notice that you can see both files in the file share.

11. Right-click Image.bmp and then click Open.

12. Close the Error window.

13. Close Internet Explorer.

Exercise 1: Troubleshooting Local Message Delivery

Task 1: Send a message from Gregory to Arlene

1. On SYD-DC1, open the Exchange Management Shell and then type

D:\5047\Labfiles\Mod7Ex1-SYDDC1.ps1 and press ENTER

2. Close the Exchange Management Shell.

3. On SYD-CL1, click Start, and then click E-mail.

4. Create a new e-mail message, and then send it to Arlene.

Task 2: On SYD-DC1, see if the message is in a queue

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange

Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Console.

2. In the console tree, click Toolbox, and then in the result pane, double-click Queue

Viewer. The Submission queue is the only queue visible, but there are no messages

in the queue.

Task 3: On SYD-EX2, see if the message is in a queue

1. On SYD-EX2, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Exchange

Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Console.

2. In the console tree, click Toolbox, and then in the result pane, double-click Queue

Viewer. The Submission queue is the only queue visible, but there are no messages

in the queue.

Task 4: Verify the message left the client computer

1. On SYD-CL1, in the Outlook folder list, click Outbox. The message to Arlene is still

in the Outbox.

2. Verify that Outlook is connected in the lower right corner of the window.

Task 5: Enable message notifications to the Hub Transport server

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

2. Scroll down, and then double-click the Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission

Service. Notice that the status of this service is stopped. This service runs on

Mailbox servers and is responsible for notifying Hub Transport servers to pick up

messages for delivery.

3. Click Start.

4. After the service has started, click OK and then close the Services snap-in.

Task 6: Verify the message has left the client computer

• On SYD-CL1, if necessary, refresh the contents of the Outbox. The message is no

longer in the Outbox and has been delivered to the server.

Task 7: Locate the message

1. On SYD-EX2, refresh the view in the Queue Viewer. The message is not on SYD-

EX2.

2. On SYD-DC1, refresh the view in the Queue Viewer. A new queue has been created

for syd-ex2.adatum.com. Notice that the Last Error column indicates that the

Mailbox server is offline.

3. Click the Messages tab, and then verify that the message from Gregory to Arlene is

here based on the subject.

Task 8: Test connectivity to SYD-EX2

1. On SYD-DC1, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

2. Type ping 10.10.0.12 and then press ENTER. All packets are returned, which

indicates network connectivity is functional.

3. Close the Command Prompt window.

4. On SYD-CL1, log off as Gregory.

5. Log on as Arlene with a password of Pa$$w0rd.

6. Click Start, and then click E-mail.

7. Read the error message and then click OK.

Task 9: Repair mail delivery to SYD-EX2

1. On SYD-EX2, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

2. Scroll down, and then double-click Microsoft Exchange Information Store. Notice

that the service is stopped.

3. Click Start.

4. After the service has started, click OK and then close the Services snap-in. Close all

open windows on SYD-EX2.

Task 10: Verify message delivery

1. On SYD-DC1, in the Queue Viewer on the Queues tab, right-click

syd-ex2.adatum.com, and then click Retry. Close all open windows on SYD-DC1.

2. On SYD-CL1, start Outlook and then verify that there is a new message in Arlene’s

Inbox.

3. Log off of SYD-CL1.

Exercise 2: Troubleshooting Remote Message Delivery

Task 1: Send a message from Gregory to Arlene

1. On SYD-EX2, open the Exchange Management Shell, type set-executionpolicy

unrestricted and press ENTER. This command enables you to run unsigned scripts

from another computer.

2. At the PS prompt, type \\SYD-DC1\d$\5047\Labfiles\Mod7Ex2-SYDEX2.ps1 and

then press ENTER. Type R and press ENTER.

3. Close the Exchange Management Shell. You may want to wait a couple of minutes

for the changes to take effect.

4. Log on to SYD-CL1 as Gregory with the password of Pa$$w0rd.

5. On SYD-CL1, click Start, and then click E-mail.

6. Create a new e-mail message, and then send it to Arlene.

7. Verify that the message has left the Outbox.

8. Close Outlook.

Note: If the message does not leave the Outbox, try closing Outlook and reopening it. If the message is still in the Outbox, verify that the Exchange Information Store service is started on SYD-DC1.

Task 2: Troubleshoot message delivery

1. On SYD-DC1, in the Exchange Management Console, in the console tree, click

Toolbox, and then in the result pane, double-click Message Tracking.

2. Click Do not check for updates on startup, click I don’t want to join the program

at this time and then click Go to Welcome screen.

3. Select the Sender check box, type Gregory, and then click Resolve Sender.

4. Set the Start time to be yesterday, and then click Next.

5. Select the most recent message and click Next. This obtains more information about

the message.

6. On the Message Tracking Parameters screen click Next. This queries more message

tracking information about the message.

7. Review the results in the Message Tracking Results window. If you review the

EventID column, you can see the first item is receiving the message, the second item

is submitting the message to the queue. There is no mention of this message being

transported from SYD-DC1 to another server. Close the Troubleshooting Assistant.

8. In the console tree, click Toolbox, and then in the result pane, double-click Queue

Viewer. You can see that there is a message in the branchoffice queue. The error

message indicates that SYD-DC1 was unable to connect with SYD-EX2.

9. On SYD-DC1, click Start, and then click Command Prompt.

10. Type ping SYD-EX2, and then press ENTER. SYD-EX2 responds properly.

11. Close the Command Prompt window.

12. In the Exchange Management Console, in the Tools node, double-click Mail Flow

Troubleshooter.

13. In the Enter an identifying label for this analysis box, type Delivery to SYD-EX2.

14. In the What symptoms are you seeing box, select Messages are backing up in one

or more queues on a server, and then click Next.

15. In the Exchange Server Name and Global Catalog Server Name boxes, type

SYD-DC1, and then click Next.

16. A variety of basic server information about SYD-DC1 is displayed. Read the

information, and then click Next.

17. An error for a queue is displayed. Click Next.

18. An information message is displayed. Click the message to expand it and read the

message, and then click Next.

19. Close the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant.

20. On SYD-EX2, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

21. Review the Exchange services that are running and determine if any stopped services

should be running.

Task 3: Resolve the first problem

1. On SYD-EX2, in Services, double-click Microsoft Exchange Transport.

2. Click Start.

3. After the service has started, click OK and then close the Services console.

4. On SYD-DC1, in Queue Viewer, right-click branchoffice, and then click Retry.

5. Read the new error message: “Service not available, closing transmission channel.”

This error indicates that the remote server is responding to communication, but is not

available at this time.

Task 4: Troubleshoot message delivery

1. In the Exchange Management Console, in the Tools node, double-click Mail Flow

Troubleshooter.

2. In the Enter an identifying label for this analysis box, type Troubleshoot2.

3. In the What symptoms are you seeing box, select Messages are backing up in one

or more queues on a server.

4. Select the Hide Informational Display check box, and then click Next. This option

skips directly to the report without showing you preliminary information.

5. In the Exchange Server Name and Global Catalog Server Name boxes, type

SYD-DC1, and then click Next.

6. Read the Overview tab, click the Mail Flow Issues tab, click Mail acceptance

failure, and then read the message. In this case, the Mail Flow Troubleshooter did

not find a specific cause of the problem.

7. Close the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant.

8. On SYD-EX2, in the Exchange Management Console, expand Server Configuration,

and then click Hub Transport.

9. In the result pane, click SYD-EX2, and verify that the Default SYD-EX2 Receive

Connector is enabled.

10. Right-click Default SYD-EX2, and then click Properties.

11. Click the Network tab. Review the remote IP addresses that this SMTP Receive

connector accepts mail from.

Task 5: Resolve the second problem

1. In the Receive mail from remote servers which have these IP addresses box, click

Edit.

2. In the Start Address box, type 0.0.0.0.

3. In the End Address box, type 255.255.255.255, and then click OK.

4. Click OK to close the Default SYD-EX2 Properties dialog box.

5. On SYD-DC1, in Queue Viewer, right-click the branchoffice queue, and then click

Retry. The message appears to be delivered from the queue.

Task 6: Verify message delivery

1. On SYD-CL1, log off as Gregory.

2. Log on as Arlene with a password of Pa$$w0rd.

3. Click Start, and then click E-mail. There is a new message from Gregory.

Task 1: Populate Arlene’s mailbox

1. On SYD-CL1, log on as Gregory with the password Pa$$w0rd.

2. Click Start and then click E-mail.

3. Click New and then create a new message:

• To: Arlene

• Subject: Message before Backup

4. Click Send.

5. Log off as Gregory.

Task 2: Perform an offline copy backup of the mailbox database

1. On SYD-EX2, open the Exchange Management Console.

2. Expand Server Configuration, and click Mailbox.

3. In the details pane, click SYD-EX2, and on the Database Management tab, click

Mailbox Database and then click Dismount Database.

4. Click Yes.

5. Open Windows Explorer and browse to D:/Program Files/Microsoft/Exchange

Server/Mailbox/First Storage Group. Select all of the files in the folder and press

CTRL+C.

6. In Windows Explorer, browse to the C: drive and create a new folder called

MDBBackup. Open the folder and press CTRL+V to paste the database and

transaction log files to the folder.

7. In Exchange Management Console, mount the Mailbox Database.

Task 3: Delete a message

1. On SYD-CL1, log on as Arlene with the password Pa$$w0rd.

2. Click Start and then click E-mail.

3. Right-click Message before Backup and then click Delete.

4. In the left pane, click Deleted Items.

5. Right-click Message before Backup and then click Delete.

6. Click Yes to permanently delete the message.

7. Close Outlook.

Task 4: Create a recovery storage group

1. On SYD-EX2, if necessary, open the Exchange Management Console.

2. In the console tree, click Toolbox, and then double-click Database Recovery

Management.

3. Click Do not check for updates on startup, click I don’t want to join the program

at this time, and then click Go to Welcome screen.

4. In the Enter an identifying label for this activity box, type Recovery Storage

Group

5. In the Server name box, type SYD-EX2.

6. In the Domain controller name box type SYD-DC1.

7. Click Next.

8. Click Create a recovery storage group.

9. Click First Storage Group, and then click Next. You must configure the recovery

storage group to hold a specific restored database.

10. Take note of the recovery storage group file locations, and then click Create the

recovery storage group.

11. Click Show Create Recovery Storage Group Information. This displays details

about the recovery storage group.

12. Click Go back to task center.

Task 5: Copy the database files

1. In Windows Explorer, copy all the files in the C:\MDBBackup folder.

2. Browse to the recovery storage group folder located in D:/Program

Files/Microsoft/Exchange Server/Mailbox/First Storage Group.

3. Paste the mailbox and transaction log files to the recovery storage group folder.

Task 6: Merge the mailbox data

1. In the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant, click Mount or dismount

databases in the recovery storage group.

2. Select Mailbox Database and then click Mount selected database.

3. Click Go back to task center.

4. Click Merge or Copy Mailbox Contents. You can also mount or dismount

databases in the recovery storage group and remove the recovery storage group from

here.

5. Click Gather Merge Information.

6. Click Show Advanced Options. These options control how mailboxes in the

recovery storage group are matched with user accounts. You also can filter messages

to be recovered based on a date range or subject.

7. Click Perform Pre-merge Tasks.

8. Click Perform Merge Actions. Merging Arlene’s mailbox is successful.

9. Close all open Windows.

Task 7: Verify successful message recovery

1. On SYD-CL1, click Start and then click E-mail.

2. Verify that Message before Backup has been restored to Arlene’s Inbox.

3. Log off SYD-CL1.
