Great news — we achieved third place in a City of Gosnells Safe City Community Kids Award to recognise innovative programs in schools. Mrs Olwen Searle, Mayor of Gosnells, presented the certificate and a cheque for $700 to our school at last week’s assembly. Students are thinking of how we can put this money to good use for the happy welfare of everyone. Our Aussie of the Month Awards at assemblies came to an end last week with the last awards being given to two deserving students, which makes a total of 20 students for the year. The monthly values were: doing your best, respect others, freedom, responsibility, understanding tolerance and inclusion, respect property and the environment, integrity, care and compassion, honesty and trustworthiness, fair go. Students discussed in class and at assemblies, how they should act and speak within these values to make Excelsior a better place for everyone. A very busy last 4 weeks coming up! Swimming lessons began well with all students remembering to bring all their gear, and the weather has been kind to us too! Thank you parents for your organising your children with this. The P&C Disco was a huge success with so many students attending and having great fun perfecting their dancing and game skills. Thank you to all the parents who organised this excellent event, worked on the drinks counter and/or helped supervise students. Our students were, of course, so well behaved away from the school environment. Kindy/PP Information Night was well attended by parents who were provided with a snapshot of what life would be like next year for them and their children. Thank you parents for your attendance — It was an exciting night. As we are currently in the process of updating our out-dated school website, you may have noticed last week a professional photographer taking pictures of some of our students to be used on the new webpage. We are really looking forward to this getting up and running. Finally, we are launching an official Excelsior Primary School Facebook Page to keep parents better informed of the programs and activities at Excelsior. MERIT AWARDS

C3 Assembly

On Friday it was A3’s Assembly. We have been learning about the ocean and sea animals. We performed Hi-5’s ‘Underwater Discovery’ Song. There was a great deal of buzz and excitement for our first assembly performance. The children did a fantastic job as all their hard work paid off.

MY SCHOOL RULES PROMOTION Thank you to all the families who have shopped at Forest Lakes Shopping Centre recently and supported the My School Rules promotion. We have received gift vouchers for Term 4, Excelsior PS came second in the competition. These vouchers will be used for prizes for fundraising activities, awards for excellent performances at school or sport. Please continue to support this promotion by dropping your shopping dockets into the boxes located outside Coles at the Forest Lakes Shopping Centre.

It’s a miracle! For the fifth time in a row Excelsior has stolen the lead in Numero and has won yet again another $1000 for our school to thrive in education and the ability to grow our future Numero stars! The ‘Excelsior Numerators’ took down 80 schools thanks to Mrs Young, our Numero coach, who devoted a lot of her time to us Numero Champions. Excelsior’s other four teams were outstanding in the heats. The Excelsior Numerators are the ones who have kept our winning streak up and these intelligent students are Mikayla, Callum, Lauren and Daichi. Our second team ‘E = Excelsior²’, Ashley, Camryn, Pratush and Dean, also made it to the finals and came fourth out of 80! An amazing effort!

Thank you to everyone who supported us, including Mrs Brown and Mrs Hooker.

CONGRATULATIONS!

In Term Two a number of classes entered the Koori Kids 2016 NAIDOC Week School Initiative Competitions which saw over 60 000 entries from schools who participated in a variety of competitions. These competitions involved colouring-in, short story writing, or Creative/Essay Writing.

Congratulations to Daaniya (A4) who was successful in winning in the colouring-in category. She has received the ‘NAIDOC Medal of Excellence’ Award. Only 20 of these awards were issued in WA.

Lunch Orders During Swimming Lessons The canteen will still be making lunch orders for all students during these two weeks of swimming lessons. Please order either online or over the counter as normal. Thank you! We are very thankful for our faithful volunteers who find the time to help us in the canteen. Frances, Kate, Tracey, Yani and Sugi, you are all amazing and we are so grateful for the way in which you cheerfully come in and happily do whatever job is required. The canteen could not operate without you and you are very much appreciated.
