It’s all about youSydney TAFE is proud to offer the Excelling in Exhibitions Series, a unique training programthat has been developed with the support of the Exhibitions and Events Association Australasia (EEAA). The Excelling in Exhibitions Series is aimed at individuals working in theExhibitions industry who are seeking to gain practical and valuable knowledge and skillsthat can be immediately transferred to their current and future roles.

Each Excelling in Exhibitions series can also be added as credit to a nationally recognised qualification in either the SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management or SIT60216 Advanced Diploma of Event Management. Both qualifications may enable those involved in the training to articulate to a higher level university qualification.

Excelling in Exhibitions Program overviewThere are five separate series involved in the Excelling in Exhibitions Program. These havebeen developed to suit those new to the industry as well as those with management andexecutive experience in exhibitions. Each series will be delivered over two eveningworkshops with additional webinar and online sessions to follow. Flexibility is built into each series to ensure minimal impact on work and other commitments.

Collaboration is key in the successful delivery of the Excelling in Exhibitions Program. Our highly experienced facilitators will bring together their personal experience along with specialised content delivered by industry experts and guest speakers. This will ensure our course content is up to date and delivered by those whose expertise is respected in the exhibitions industry. Each series offers a unique opportunity to network and reflect on current practices in the industry. The focus is on nurturing innovation and improving skills that are readily transferred into each business.

Program delivery is planned to ensure you can attend one, more or all workshops if desired.

Details of delivery The five Excellence in Exhibitions Series will occur at Sydney TAFE conveniently located near Central railway station in the city. The training will be offered in an intensive workshop style facilitated over two evenings per week. Follow up webinar sessions will be delivered following each workshop. Webinars sessions will be recorded and can be accessed online following the session.

Excelling in Exhibitions Series OutlineSeries 1: Excelling in Exhibitions – Operations Series 1 is aimed at those who are either new to the exhibitions industry or would like to improve their current operational skills. The focus will be on developing sound knowledge of exhibitions management processes and developing a broad range of skills to coordinate exhibitions operations.

This comprehensive workshop is designed to develop and improve skills and knowledge to professionally manage exhibition operations.As well as exploring the exhibition sector in relation to the overall industry, Series 1 covers relationships and opportunities with key stakeholders, government and regulatory authorities.

The fundamental area of professional supplier and stakeholder relationships is included with the aim of improving outcomes and promoting best practice for exhibitions exhibition organisations. Management of registrations for attendees, speakers, buyers, exhibitors and sponsors is addressed through current industry options and specialist software.

Specific operational issues around on-site exhibition management from the building stage through to deconstruction of the exhibition will be covered. Logistics as well as access, transport and rigging are discussed with an emphasis on documentation, safety and compliance requirements.

Upon successful completion of Series 1, you will receive credit in the following nationally accredited units (subjects) of competence:

> SITEEVTO01 Source and use information on the event industry > SITEEVTO02 Process and monitor event registrations > SITEEVT010 Manage on-site event operations > BSBADM502 Manage meetings.

Series 2: Excelling in Exhibitions – Project ManagementSeries 2 is aimed at those who have been working in exhibitions operations and are seeking to advance into management roles.

This workshop focuses on the professional project management of exhibitions. The project management framework is covered from initiation stage through to implementation and evaluation. The workshop aims to improve skills and knowledge to enable delivery of outstanding exhibitions, from small to large scale, in a range of locations including outdoor sites.Optimal planning and allocation of exhibition space will be explored through exhibition specific software and floor plans.

Series 2 will also include the key area of successful exhibitor management and performance, from the recruitment stage through to the post event stage. Within this session exhibition compliance and profitability will be included.

Upon successful completion of Series 2 you will receive credit in the following nationally accredited units of competence:

> SITXMGT003 Manage projects > SITEEVT018 Plan and allocate

exhibition space > SITEEVT019 Recruit and manage

exhibitors.

Series 3: Excelling in Exhibitions – Marketing and Social Media ManagementSeries 3 is aimed at those who have been working in exhibitions operations and management and are seeking to improve their marketing skills and knowledge.

Learn how to harness the power of social media to reach customers, attendees and potential sponsors in this workshop. Participants will discuss the development, implementation and monitoring of integrated social media solutions for exhibitors and stakeholders. Crucial exhibition marketing related tasks are covered as well as the solutions, trends and marketing management specific to exhibitions. The workshop also explores exhibitions as a marketing tool and how to sell this concept to other stakeholders.

Allied to marketing, the management of sponsors and sponsorship opportunities is included with a focus on prospects and options for both the sponsor and the show.

Upon successful completion ofSeries 3, you will receive credit in the following nationally accredited units of competence:

> SITXMPR004 Co-ordinate marketing activities

> SITEBS002 Develop, implement and monitor the use of social media in a business

> SITXMPR006 Obtain and manage sponsorship

> BSBWRT401 Write complex documents.

Series 4: Excelling in Exhibitions – Risk and Crisis ManagementSeries 4 is aimed at those who have been working in exhibitions management and are seeking to improve skills and knowledge in relation to risk and crisis management for exhibitions.

This workshop focuses on the broad and emerging areas of risk impacting the current exhibitions industry. Compliance and risk are explored in relation to local and global case studies and such areas as political and terrorism risk as well as natural events, technological and economic risk.

The challenges of multi-venue exhibition management are covered from the research stage through to operations with geographical factors and inter-venue communication and considerations explored. The program includes the preparation of professional exhibitions plans for multi-venue exhibitions.

Upon successful completion ofSeries 4 you will receive credit in the following nationally accredited units of competence:

> BSBRSK501 Manage risk > SITXCRIO02 Manage a

business continuity crisis > SITXGLC001 Research and

comply with regulatory requirements.

Series 5: Excelling in Exhibitions – Innovation and e-Business SolutionsSeries 5 is aimed at those who have been working in exhibitions management and are seeking to improve innovative and e-business practices.

The aim of this workshop is to explore innovative solutions and continuous improvement practices which can be applied to the exhibitions industry and individual organisations.

Current and emerging global trends will be researched and explored through local and international case studies. Opportunities for specific e-business initiatives around online customer service, e-marketing and social media will be addressed.

Sustainability policy and procedures will be covered in line with the current international standard ISO2012 1.

Upon successful completion of Series 5 you will receive credit in the following nationally accredited units of competence:

> BSBEBU501 Investigate and design e-business solutions

> BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability

> SITEEVT011 Research event trends and practice

> BSBMGT608 Manage innovation and continuous improvement.

Program facilitatorsKathy Herd Event Management Program CoordinatorSydney TAFEWith a resume that includes extensive industry, education and training experience, Kathy offers a unique perspective on – and insight into – the exhibitions and events sector. After a successful 15-year career – including management roles at the Sydney Olympics, international incentives and conventions as well as community events - Kathy chose to pursue opportunities in the education and training sector. For the past decade, she has been training and managing event programs at Sydney TAFE. She continues to work on events and maintains close contact with industry. She is passionate about delivering high quality practical skills and knowledge designed to meet the changing needs of the dynamic events workplace.

Maryanne Metry Trainer and Event Management Course Coordinator Sydney TAFEMaryanne’s knowledge and skills in the events industry is broad. She has 20 years’ experience managing events including corporate events, opening nights, festivals, trade shows and large scale events. After successful local and international event management Maryanne has for the past decade trained event students at Sydney TAFE maintaining her vast industry contacts. She has also been integral in managing institute wide events for Sydney TAFE.

Amanda Glassop Trainer and Event Management Course Coordinator Sydney TAFEFollowing a passion for tourism, hospitality and events, Amanda began a flourishing career in London specialising in providing high quality association conferences, gala events, trade exhibitions and networking opportunities. For the past 10 years Amanda has been training event management with Sydney TAFE and university students. She mentors groups creating events for charity organisations and maintains strong links with industry. Amanda believes in quality education and training as a way to ensure the future success of the events and exhibitions industry.

Matt Crouch Principal Hodgkinson McInnes LegalMatt Crouch is a principal of Hodgkinson McInnes Legal, a Sydney based law firm that covers a wide range of commercial law areas. Matt has specialist expertise in conference, exhibitions and meetings industry and is well known in the sector. He writes the bi-monthly legal column in mice.net magazine and delivers training in events and exhibitions law to Sydney TAFE students. Matt has over thirty years’ experience in servicing the needs of a wide range of clients in the sector including event managers, PCOs, venues and suppliers of all kinds.

FAQsWhat is the cost of the training?This training is being supported by NSW government funds. For a limited timeonly there is no charge – enrolment and commencement must occur by 11 December, 2016.

Are there conditions to enrol?To enrol in either one, more than one or all of the Excelling in Exhibitions Program you must be living or working in New South Wales and be an Australian resident or citizen.

Can I participate in more than one series?Yes. The Excelling in Exhibitions Program includes 5 series. Each series is offered on different days, not concurrently. This allows you to enrol and complete more than one or the entire Excelling in Exhibitions Program.

Will this training lead to higher qualifications?The Excelling in Exhibitions Program isa series of skills sets that are containedwithin the SIT50316 Diploma of EventManagement and/or the SIT60216Advanced Diploma of Event Management.

By successfully completing each series, the appropriate subjects will be transferred to your academic record.

Sydney TAFE’s highly qualified trainers will assist you in completing the entire course/s that can lead to direct entry in degree programs with our partner universities.

How will this benefit my career?The Excelling in Exhibitions Program has been designed for theExhibitions industry in consultation with the Exhibitions and EventsAssociation Australasia (EEAA). Each series aims to enhance and develop existing skills and add to the knowledge included in each Series.

Upon successful completion of each Series, you will receive credit for the relevant subjects within the SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management and/or the SIT60216 Advanced Diploma of Event Management. Further opportunities exist following successful completion, to obtain a qualification that is nationally recognised through either the recognition of prior learning process or further training. Formal qualifications can lead to career progression.

How is the training provided?Each Excelling in Exhibitions Series is offered over two eveningsinvolving intensive workshops that will be facilitated to meet eachgroup’s needs. This style of training provides networking opportunities as well as knowledge sharing amongst those present. Each participant will obtain access to Sydney TAFE’s Learning Management System, Moodle where resources and training material will be available. Webinar sessions will be provided at convenient times following the two workshops for each series.

Who will be attending?The Excelling in Exhibitions Program targets those already working in the exhibitions industry with varied levels of experience.

How am I assessed?As each Excelling in Exhibitions Series aims to meet the requirements of national qualifications you will be required to provide evidence of the skills and knowledge you have gained. This evidence will be gathered throughout each workshop and by a portfolio of evidence prepared with the support of trainers at the workshop and during the webinars.
