FORMULAS: x A formula is an instruction to calculate a

number. Example: 4+5

x A Cell reference identifies the cell. Example: C3

x Use a cell reference when building formulas. Use an equal sign (=) before creating a formula. Example: =C7*D7

4

MATHEMATICAL OPERATORS: x A mathematical operator is a symbol used to

calculate a formula.

x Basic mathematical operators:

+ Addition - Subtraction * Multiplication / Division

x The order of mathematical operations is important when building formulas. All operations are completed from left to right in order of appearance.

To learn more PEMDAS A mnemonic to remember the order of mathematical operations is PEMDAS or Please (Parentheses) Excuse (Exponents ^) My (Multiplication) Dear (Divide), Aunt (Addition) Sally (Subtraction)

x Percentages can be typed with a decimal .25 or a symbol 25%
