PreambleTheteaching,learning,andevaluationareintegratedandindissolublecomponentsofeducation.AMETdesiredthattheevaluationsystemshouldserveasanaidintheprocessoflearning.TheUniversityfelt,thatthis,alongwithteaching,shouldbeanintegralpartofaidingthelearning.Theevaluationprocessshouldincludecontinuousintegralevaluation,theconductofexamination,theevaluationofanswerscriptsandindicatingtheperformancebygradingratherthanmarking.Itisinthiscontextthattheevaluationpracticesarechosenandintroduced.

TheObjectivesTheexaminationreform,intheUniversity,isnotmerelyatechniquetoimprovetheevaluationsystembuttobeviewedasanaimatimprovingtheeducationprocessitself.

To create con�idence and trust amongst the stakeholders (Management, Teachers,Students,Parents,Government&Public)oftheUniversity.

Toconductallexaminationsasperthepre-publishedcalendarofexaminations. Tocurbmalpracticesandunfairmeansintheexaminations. Tomaintaincon�identialityandincreasereliabilityoftheexaminationsystem. Toincreasetransparencyintheexaminationsystem. To evaluate answer books through Central Valuation Program in theminimum time

period. Todeclareresults(asearlyaspossible)intheshortestpossibletime. Toundertakeveri�ication,supplyofphotocopiesof theassessedanswerbooksto the

studentsandrevaluationoftheassessedanswerbooks.

ThePracticeSEET(SoftwareEnabledEvaluationTool)developedbytheCentreforE-Governanceisweb-based(whichissecured)andprovidesauser-friendlyinterface.

Theevaluationsystem,asadoptedbytheUniversity,hastwocomponents,viz,1. TheContinuousAssessmentTest(CAT)2. TheEndSemesterExamination(ESE)Theratioofweightageis40%inCATand60%inESEforUGandPG.Theanswer

scripts are given on demand to the students after evaluation for the purpose of

Retotaling/ Revaluation and thereby providing suf�icient transparency and

accountability. Ageneralthrustisgivenontheexternalexaminersquestionpapersetters,moderators

andevaluatorsoftheanswerscripts. Eliminationofsubjectivitytothepossibleextentinthemarkingsystemisaccordedby

introducingthegradingsystem,convertingmarksintogrades. TheUniversityhaspreparedQuestionBanksforvariouscoursesatUGlevel.Theyareused

bythefacultyforsettingthequestionpapers. Thequestionpapercarriesthequestionssuchasshortanswertype(5*2=10marks),brief

answertypequestions(5*4=20marks)andtheLonganswerquestions(5*14=70Marks),

totesttheirsynthesis,drawing,creativity,originality,etc. The level of achievement is maintained high in the performance of students in the

examinations.Furtherthepercentageofpassesineachsemesterexaminationisalways

around80%andabove. At the time of introduction of the Examination Reforms against the traditional

examinationsystem.OrientationtoteachersoftheUniversity,workshopsareconducted. Threewrittentests,quizzes,surprisetests,etcareintroducedaspartoftheCAT.Lateritis

reducedtotwointernally&onecentralized.

Theexaminationreformsarefoundtohave�ittedinwell,asanaidtomaximizelearningby

thestudentsandalsoasameasureofthestudents'masteryoverthesubject.Ithasbeen

widelyunderstoodbytheteachersandfoundtoberewardingtothestudents. Physically Handicapped / Orthopedically affected students can write their

examinations through thehelpof scribes.Suchstudentsare instructed to request the

ControllerofExaminationsfortheappointmentofscribesaspertheUniversityrules.

CHOICEBASEDCREDITSYSTEM(CBCS)

TheIndianHigherEducationInstitutionshavebeenmovingfromtheconventional

annual system to semester system. Currently many of the institutions have already

introducedthechoicebasedcreditsystem.Thesemestersystemacceleratestheteaching

–learningprocessandenablesverticalandhorizontalmobilityinlearning.Thecredit

basedsemestersystemprovides�lexibilityindesigningcurriculumandassigningcredits

based on the course content and hours of teaching. The choice based credit system

provides a 'cafeteria' type approach inwhich the students can take courses of their

choice,learnattheirownpace,undergoadditionalcoursesandacquiremorethanthe

requiredcredits,andadoptaninterdisciplinaryapproachtolearning.AMETmoveto

CBCSandimplementsthegradingsystemfromtheAcademicYear2015-16.

Thiscangoalongwayincapacitybuildingofstudents.

CreditSystem:

Thecreditbasedsemestersystemprovidesflexibilityindesigningcurriculumand

assigningcreditsbasedoncoursecontentandhoursofteaching.Underthissystem,

therequirementforawardingadegreeordiplomaisprescribedintermsofnumber

ofcreditstobecompletedbythestudents.

MinimumCreditsfor

PG–2yearsprogram - 90credits

UG–3yearsprogram - 140credits

UG–4yearsprogram - 180credits

Thetotalnumberofthecreditsmayvaryfromprogrammetoprogramme,howeverit

should not exceed more than 10 credits over and above the minimum credits

allocatedtotherespectiveprogramme.

TheCoreandFoundationcourseswillcarry85%(60+25)creditweightage.General

andOpencourseswillcarry15%creditweightage.

1.ChoiceBasedCreditSystem(CBCS):TheCBCSprovideschoiceforstudentstoselect

fromtheprescribedcourses(core,electiveorminororsoftskillcourses).

2.Course:Usuallyreferredto,as'papers'isacomponentofaprogramme.Allcourses

need not carry the sameweight. The courses should de�ine learning objectives and

learningoutcomes.Acoursemaybedesignedtocompriselectures/tutorials/laboratory

work/ �ield work/ outreach activities/ project work/ vocational training/viva/

seminars/termpapers/assignments/presentations/self-studyetc.oracombinationof

someofthese.

3. Credit Based Semester System (CBSS): Under the CBSS, the requirement for

awardingadegreeordiplomaorcerti�icateisprescribedintermsofnumberofcreditsto

becompletedbythestudents.

4.CreditPoint:Itistheproductofgradepointandnumberofcreditsforacourse.5.Credit:Aunitbywhichthecourseworkismeasured.Itdeterminesthenumberof

hoursofinstructionsrequiredperweek.Onecreditisequivalenttoonehourofteaching

(lectureortutorial)ortwohoursofpracticalwork/�ieldworkperweek.

6. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): It is ameasure of overall cumulative

performanceofastudentoverallsemesters.TheCGPAistheratiooftotalcreditpoints

securedbyastudentinvariouscoursesinallsemestersandthesumofthetotalcreditsof

allcoursesinallthesemesters.Itisexpresseduptotwodecimalplaces.

7.GradePoint:Itisanumericalweightallottedtoeachlettergradeona10-pointscale.

8.LetterGrade:Itisanindexoftheperformanceofstudentsinasaidcourse.Gradesare

denotedbylettersO,A+,A,B+,B,C,PandFunder10pointsgradingsystem.

9.SemesterGradePointAverage(SGPA):Itisameasureofperformanceofworkdone

inasemester. It isratioof totalcreditpointssecuredbyastudent invariouscourses

registeredinasemesterandthetotalcoursecreditstakenduringthatsemester.Itshallbe

expresseduptotwodecimalplaces.

10.GradeReport/ConsolidatedGradeReport

Basedonthemarkssecuredininternalandexternalexaminations,gradesearnedare

calculatedandgradereportisissuedtoallregisteredcandidatesaftereverysemester.

Thegradereportwilldisplaythecoursedetailssuchassubjectcode,subjecttitle,number

ofcredits,marksecuredinInternalandExternalExaminationsequivalentgradealong

withSGPAofthesemesterandCGPAearnedtillthatsemester.

17.GenerationofMarkstatementformoderationwithReg.numberOnce theboardapproves themoderation,a listof studentswith their registernumberwillbegeneratedtowhommoderationmarkscanbeawarded

18.RevaluationmarkentryIf a student applies for revaluation, the paper is again valuated and themarksecuredisenteredinthesystem.Thesystempicksthebestofthetwomarksandassignsitasthe�inalmarksforthestudent

19.WithheldstudentlistentryEntry of students whose results has be withheld due to various reasons likemalpractice,feedue,disciplinaryactionsetc.

20.FinalizationofEndsemesterExamresultFinalizingtheresultbeforepublication,inwhichthemarksarecalculatedandtheresultofeachstudentandsubjectalongwithpass/fail,grade,gradepointsetc.areupdatedforpublishing.

INSTRUCTIONSTOTHECAMPOFFICERSINCENTRALVALUATION

1. Thevaluationworkwillbeheldfrom9.30a.m.to12.30p.m.fortheforenoonsessionand

2. BeforethetransferofanswerscriptstotheCentralValuationCenters,checkingmustbe

answerscriptsreceivedandnumberofabsenteessoastoensurecollectionofanswer

scripts.

3. CentralValuationworkshouldbecommencedonlyafterascertainingthereceiptofallthe

dummynumberedanswerscripts.

4. The CampOf�icerwill handover thepacketsorbundleseach containing30answer

scriptsalongwithquestionpapers,keyandFoilcardstotheChiefExaminers.

5. TheCampOf�iceroftheCentralvaluationcampshouldverifytheappointmentorderfrom

eachExaminer.

6. TheSchemeofValuationwithkeysentbytheof�iceoftheControllerofExaminationswill

be discussed in the Board meeting along with the Examiners one day before the

commencementofvaluation.

7. TheChiefExaminershouldgetthedetailsoftheavailableanswerpaperswithkeyfrom

theCampOf�iceradaypriortothecommencementofcentralvaluation.

8. Valuationshouldbedoneaspertheschemeofvaluationsuppliedatthecentre.

9. FiveAssistantExaminerswillbeallottedtoeachChiefExaminerwhowillbeoverallin

–chargeofthevaluation.HeshallscrutinizealltheanswerpapersvaluedbytheAssistant

Examinersunderhis/hercharge.He/Sheshouldalsoverifywhetherthevaluationisdone

asper the schemeofvaluation.TheChiefExaminer shouldvalueat least10%of the

answerpapersvaluedbyeachAssistantExaminerandhe/she should recordhis/her

remarks on the answer papers in different ink which shall be the �inal marks. The

remunerationforChiefExaminersshallbetheaverageremunerationofalltheAssistant

Examinersinthesubjectplus10%ofthetotalremunerationoftheAssistantExaminers

underhis/hercharge.

10.Beforethecommencementofvaluation,theexaminersarerequestedtoverifywhether

theyhavehandledthesubjectsoftheanswerscripts.

11.IfanyExaminerappointedforaparticularsubjectisnotreportedforvaluation,theanswer

papermaybereturnedbacktotheCampOf�icer.

12.TheChiefExaminersarerequestedtoissuetheanswerpapersofaparticularsubjectfor

valuationonlytotheexaminerswhoactuallyhandledthatsubject.NoExaminerswillbe

allottedmorethan3subjectsforvaluation.

13.Eachexaminerwillbegiven30UGanswerscriptsforeachsessionseparatelywiththe

concernedFoil Sheets. In caseofPGDegree,20answer scriptswill begiven for each

sessiontoeachexaminerforvaluation.

14.TheExaminershavetoawardmarksandrecordthemonthefrontpage,totalthemand

thenwritethemarksinnumberandinwordsandshouldsigninfullinthe�irstpageofthe

answerpaper.

15.TheChiefExaminersarerequiredtoattestcorrections,ifany,madebythemandsignon

the�irstpageforhavingcheckedthevaluation(whetheralltheanswersarevalued)and

alsothetotal.EvenifnoalterationismadebytheChiefExaminer,he/sheshallrecordnil

correctionandthenaf�ixhis/hersignature.

16.Marksshouldbelegibleandcorrectionsifanyshouldbeattested,withfullsignature.

17.TheExaminersshouldreturntheevaluatedanswerscriptsintheeveningofthesameday

andtheanswerscriptsallottedforthedayshallnotbekeptpending.Themarksshouldbe

enteredintheFoilsheetandinthecomputerbytheExaminers.

18.UndertheSupervisionoftheChiefExaminer,entryofthemarksinthefoilcardsandin

computershouldbedoneandveri�icationshouldalsobecarriedout.Inthisconnection,a

DataEntryOperatormaybeappointedbytheChiefExaminer.

19.Every day soon after the valuation, the Examiners should �ill-up the statement of

percentageofpass,sothatthenumberofscriptsvaluedbythemcanalsoberecordedon

eachdayofvaluation.The respectiveChiefExaminer shouldcollect thesestatements,

calculate the percentage of pass and hand them over to Camp Of�icer. This form of

statementwillhelptotabulatetheresultsonthelastdayofvaluation.

20.Wherever the valuation by an Examiner is considered to be unsatisfactory, the Chief

Examiner shall give further instructions to the examiner. In case of continued

unsatisfactory valuation by an Examiner, the Chief Examiner shall bring the facts

immediatelytothenoticeoftheControllerofExaminationsthroughtheCampOf�icer.In

suchcasessevereactionwillbetakenagainstsuchExaminers.

21.Fractionofmarksinthetotalofeachpapershouldbebroughttothenextintegerbefore

enteringinthefoilsheets.Nocandidateshouldbefailedforwantofoneortwomarks

22.TheattentionofallExaminersisdrawntotheneedforacarefulcheckingoftheanswersto

see that no answer is left out in valuation and that propermarks are assigned to all

answersandpartsthereof.Examinersarerequestedtobecareful intotalingthemarks

32.The Camp Of�icer should forward the copies of representations received regarding

ofpassingtheresults.,ChiefExaminersandExaminersarerequestedtovaluethepapers,

�inalizeandpasstheresultstakingintoconsiderationthenatureofquestion,ifoutof

syllabus,toughquestion,percentageofpassetc.,beforesuggestingtheawardofsuitable

markstoearnapass.Thesuggestionsrecommendedtoearnapassshouldbestraight

without any ambiguity, so that implementation of Board Recommendation is not

33.TheBoardMeeting,topasstheresults,shouldbeconvenedforeachsubjectonthelastday

Controller of Examinations in duplicate, duly signed by the Chief Examiner and the

34.All the examinersmust be present in the central valuation camp till the valuation is

35.TheCampOf�icerhastoarrangeforthepaymentofDearnessAllowancewiththehelpof

FinanceSectionoftheUniversityandalsotheremunerationtotheExaminersattheendof
