The Governing Body have an exceptionally important role to play in determining the strategic direction of the school and we are very excited to have new governors on board. In addition to this week’s profile, we have also included a ‘Governor Profile’ introducing our new Chair and Vice Chair to you. Head Student for Fundraising makes fantastic start to the year I am delighted to inform parents that Todmorden High School’s Post 16 head student for fundraising and events, Chloe, recently organised a MacMillan Coffee Morning in order to raise money for the fantastic charity. Chloe campaigned across assemblies throughout the school and even conducted meetings with the staff in order to get as many people to bake, bring and buy cakes on the morning. Chloe’s charitable efforts were extremely sucessful, the bakesale was so busy students were struggling to fit through the doors and, with the help of some sixth form volunteers, Chloe managed to raise over £368 from cakesales alone. Chloe has also been involved in our Food Bank Appeal, which started last week. Our whole school is currently collecting food items to donate to the local food bank in Todmorden Which currently supports over 150 families within our community on a weekly basis. We are proud to be supporting this cause and Chloe is doing a great job so far of ensuring that we receive as many donations as possible! Your child will have brought home a slip detailing the types of items that the food bank are requesting, please do not hesitate to contact the school for any further information. We will be collecting up until Friday 21 st October. Sporting Superstars On Wednesday this week, Todmorden High School’s under 13 and under 14 netball teams travelled to Calder High School. The teams played some outstanding games and we are very proud of their efforts and the girls came home with some fabulous results, winning three games and drawing one. Girls involved: Hollie, Isla, Esme, Poppy, Caitlin, Millie, Ciara, Paige, Edith Amy, Grace, Freya, Lauren, Lucy, Zahrah and Liberty. As a school we are extremely proud of this achievement and are sure we will see more great things from these girls in the future, well done! In our student profile this week, we have featured Caitlin, who has recently been accepted onto the West Yorkshire netball team and Madelaine, who competed in an international judo tournament last weekend. Ski Trip – March 2018 Letters have been sent home regarding the school’s up-coming ski trip which will be to Corbier in France. This trip is open to all students and is currently in years 7, 8 and 9. Please contact Mr Duerden if you would like more information: [email protected] In closing, I would like to remind all parents that the school will close on Friday 21 st October for the October half term break. We will reopen on Monday 31 st October at 8.40am for all students. Kind Regards Gill Shirt Acting Headteacher
