As I write this Shepherd to Sheep, I notice that much of the Northeast and upper Midwest are experiencing rather large snow storms and blizzards. Many airports are closed or at a minimum long flight delays. I enjoy seeing this on television because it reminds me to Praise the Lord for our 77 degree temperature at the moment. I’m not in to New Year Resolutions, but I will not complain –at least not today--about Houston traffic.

But I do love the change of seasons even though there are only two here in South Texas. I like the changes that take place in between as we progress from one to the other. As a kid growing up in Pennsylvania, there was a certain feel as one season faded and the next approached. And in each, transition of fall to winter and winter to spring, and spring to summer, and summer back to fall, each season held its own particular beauty. Then too, there was the anticipation and excitement of the activities each new season would bring. There were times when I wanted summer to last just a little longer, or winter to hurry up and get over so we could begin spring sports, but of course, that was never to be. No matter how hard I wished, or how much I wanted it, the seasons changed right on time. And it didn’t really matter if Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow or not. He had no effect on God’s perfect plan of seasons.

The same thing applies to the change of our seasons of life as well. We cannot stop the change, reverse the change, or even slow change down, not even for a moment. Once God puts His nature into motion a great symphony erupts all around us. Every living creature is busy in preparation for the changes to come. That’s what I liked about the transition from long, cold snowy winters to the budding and then greening of trees, blossoming of flowers, and the arrival of robins signifying spring has sprung!

Have you ever noticed that in God’s creation, every single living thing becomes suddenly aware at some point that dramatic changes are about to take place? These transitions cause us to become aware that the change of seasons taking place in our own lives will somehow affect how we go about our daily lives. Often we don’t know what the effects will be. But if we have done everything possible to prepare, we can approach the season with great confidence.

As we enter 2017, are you prepared for the change of season that will take place in your life or the lives of others that may impact you this year? Our lives in Christ are filled with all kinds of activity and change. Jesus living in us is changing us from season to season. He is getting us ready for something we cannot see, but like nature, we sense something is about to happen, winter is coming. If you are facing a coming winter in your life, Jesus can help you put on your storm windows and insulate your heart for the cold harsh reality that life sometimes is. He was a carpenter after all. As a Master Builder He is building your mansion in heaven, so trusting Him with something as simple as storm windows and insulation for your life is a “piece of cake!” Again, I remember when I was a kid that no matter how hard the wind and snow blew outside, the storm windows my dad installed in our house gave me confidence that all was well. I pray you know in your heart, no matter how strong the winds of adversity are blowing, when you have Jesus in your heart, all is well.

Speaking of Jesus in our hearts it may be time to do some housecleaning. I have such trouble throwing away things, even though I have held onto them, but no longer use. When you look at who you are in Christ do you see yourself being changed or are you stuck holding on to the person you used to be? The scriptures tell us plainly we are to put to death the old things that once lived within us. Have you put them to death or have you just wounded them?

As I have shared with you in numerous sermons and teachings, we need to clothe ourselves in Jesus. We need to be dressed in a servants garment. We need to change our outfit and put on the new white clean clothes that Jesus have given us to wear. And when the cold winds blow, and the temperatures drop, we can pull His garments ever tighter, ever closer until the season passes by. It is my prayer for all of us at Pine Drive, that as 2017 begins to reveal itself day by day, but seemingly all too quickly, we are prepared for the blessings as well as for the inevitable change of season occurring in our life.

Allow me to encourage you to make a covenant with God that beginning now and throughout the coming year you will fully trust Him with every aspect of your life. Covenant with God that you will be radically obedient. This is not a New Year Resolution, this is a covenant between you and God. Welcome change. Do not fear while Jesus conforms you into His image. Embrace what He is doing in your life because you are being changed, ultimately, to show the world what the power of God can do in every circumstance, regardless of the season, for your good and for His glory.

Happy, blessed New Year! And praise the Lord for Pine Drive’s upcoming seasons in 2017. Let’s all glorify God like never before.

You are loved.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and

wonderful New Years Day. The Christmas Eve

Candlelight Service was amazing.

As the new year is here, the Children's

Ministry will be needing volunteers again

this year for vacation bible school in late

June or early July. Dates will be verified

later. The theme is "Maker Fun Factory".

Created by God. Built for a purpose.

A New Year has started and everyone has a

list for new years resolutions. As Christians,

ours should be to pray more, read our bible

more, get to know our neighbors more,

volunteer, give of ourselves, and seek to rely

on God more. And always

remember God never leaves us

or forsakes us. Our problems

only get bigger if we don't let

go and let God.

By Brother Clayton Hamm

We need the Lord everyday and everyday we need the Lord. It is a fact that people can live their entire life and never know the Lord, and never know that they need the Lord and when they die they will be out of the Lord’s presence in Hell. It is a tough statement, not everyone who dies gets to stay in Heaven, in fact, scripture indicates that few will enter, look at Matthew 7:13-14.

So we need the Lord, the only way to Heaven is through Jesus. How does one get to know Jesus? There are two ways, one is you can read about Him in the Bible, and the other is through the Holy Spirit. If you want to know someone, you can read about their accomplishments, their life story. You can examine the evidence, study the facts and determine what kind of person they are. This gives a very two dimensional view. To get some depth, you talk to people who know Jesus and see Him from their perspective and you get a more rounded understanding of who Jesus really is.

Another way to know someone is to hang out with Him, and with the case of Jesus, He has given us the Holy Spirit to teach all things, including who Jesus is and how as the Son of God, He died for our sins, buried in death and resurrected to new life, to give us a new life. And there comes a point where the love of God touches your heart and it no longer is enough to need Jesus, to have Jesus with you, to have Jesus come up along side of you, to have Jesus walk with you.

You want more of Jesus. You want to be where He is. You want to breath the same air as Jesus. You want your life to be so entangled with Jesus that every step He takes, you are with Him, walking side by side. You are now walking with Jesus and that is the desire of every Christian, that the need for the Lord drives us closer and closer to the One that sustains us, the One that provides, the One that heals, the One that saves, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Your desire has gone beyond wanting Jesus to walk with you through life to you wanting to walk with Jesus! And the moment that happens, is the moment that life is not about what happens to you, but rather how life brings you closer to God, to be in His presence every single day. Think about the joy. Think about the abundant life. Think about the grace you experience in the presence of God – you will be praising God with the angels for His goodness and mercy – Halleluiah, what a way to start the new year, praising God and everyday getting closer to God.

Shalom,
