Our Host: HKCEC

Hong Kong’s purpose-built meeting, convention and exhibition facilities stand tall on the worldstage, with stunning design, space versatility and high-capacity potential. The city’s primary venuesare the Asia World-Expo integrated with the airport and the Hong Kong Convention and ExhibitionCentre (HKCEC) in the heart of town. The newly developed Kai Tai Cruise Terminal, which is also setto become one of the city’s most impressive and prestigious MICE venues.

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre was opened in 1988.

It is located on the magnificent and renowned Victoria Harbour, is owned by the HongKong Trade Development Council (TDC) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative RegionGovernment.

Since its opening, the HKCEC has hosted over 44.209 events and welcomed over 92 millionvisitors.

In the last fiscal year the HKCEC attracted almost 6,4 million visitors and a total of 1.113events including 111 exhibitions. 50 were trade exhibitions, 24 were trade and publicexhibitions, whilst 37 were public only. 104 exhibitions were recurrent and 7 were new.

The HKCEC provides more than 91.500sqm of rentable space in the heart of one of theworld's most exciting cities. A total of 66.000sqm are covered by six exhibition halls. t

Our Keynote Speakers

Robert Moore is the Board Coordinator for IELA's 1st Operations Summit.

Robert Moore started his involvement with IELA in 1989 when he was CEO of Lep International.In April 1996, he purchased Corrigans International and later formed Exposervice, both IELA members.Exposervice was sold to Agility in 2005 and Bob has continued to run Agility Fairs and EventsAustralasia since then. Bob also holds the role of Senior Vice President Commercial, a global role forthe Agility F&E organization.

He has been on the IELA Board of Management for over ten years. After facilitating many oftheir Congresses and acting as the emcee, he was elected Chairman of IELA from 2011 until 2014.

In 2014 he was named Honorary Member of IELA and in 2015 he received the Individual MeritAward for his outstanding commitment and support for IELA.

Sandy Cunningham is UBM Asia Ltd.'s Regional Director of Operations.

He was born and raised in Scotland. After graduating from university having studied economicsand marketing, he joined an Edinburgh-based shipping company, principally involved in the Europe-Far East container shipping business, and operating oil exploration vessels and rigs. After working inLondon and Southampton he moved to Tokyo in 1983, and thereafter to the Hong Kong office, mainlyinvolved in the sales, marketing and operations of the container service, but latterly heading up anew business department, as the company investigated opportunities outside their core shipping andoil sectors.

He left the shipping business in late 1980s, and joined a private exhibition and conferenceorganiser in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Trade Fair Group), where he was initially responsible for theSeatrade maritime events in Hong Kong and China, then established the Operations Department tohandle an increasing number of exhibitions. In 1995 the company was acquired by United News &Media (now UBM plc) and as business expanded in Asia the job took on a regional role. Typically thisnow involves liaising with the various offices on all aspects of the operations function; venue contractsand spending; contractor and supplier selection and standards etc, and increasingly sustainability atthe events, which involves environmental initiatives and health and safety.

He also heads up the Operations Committee of the local industry association (HKECIA).

Mark Cochrane is the UFI Regional Manager, Asia Pacific.

He is also the Managing Director of Business Strategies Group (BSG), a business intelligence andstrategy consulting firm focused on the B2B media industry in Asia – with a particular emphasis onexhibitions and events in Asia. Through its consulting practice and its relationship with UFI, BSG workswith major exhibition organisers, venues and governments across Asia.

Mark has been based in Hong Kong for 18 years and joined BSG in 2006. Prior to BSG, Markworked in a variety of roles primarily focused on B2B media and market research including threeyears at Global Sources in marketing roles and three years at The Gartner Group as a senior researchanalyst. Mark earned an MBA from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of InternationalManagement, in 1997. Mark is on the board of the Business Information Industry Association andpresents regularly on the exhibition industry at various conferences and events in Asia.

Mariane Ewbank is the director of Fulstandig Shows e Eventos, a full-service transportation andlogistics contractor in Brazil.

She was employed in the events marketplace for a number of years as an exhibitor, after whichshe moved over to the organizer side of the industry and managed shows and conferences for another10 years. Her experiences in the exhibitors’ and organizers’ fields have been tremendous assets indeveloping and managing Fulstandig where her main focus now is concentrating on the needs andsuccesses of her exhibition clients.

Fulstandig is an IELA member. Mariane is the Vice-Chairwoman of IELA and Chair of the Standardsand Customs Working Group of IELA.

Stuart Bailey is Diversified Events Hong Kong LLC’s Managing Director.

He is a career trade exhibition professional with 18 years of trade show experience and hasworked on many international events across Europe and Asia. He has been involved in the creationand launch of many events including the London Restaurant Show, The Creative Show, TotalPublishing, The Business Travel Expo to name but a few.

Stuart joined Diversified Events (formerly Asia Business Events) as General Manager in 2005,managing the established Restaurant & Bar event as well as researching other opportunities. RetailAsia Expo was launched in 2009, one of his passions the Hong Kong International Beer Awards wasalso launched in 2009 and Asian Seafood Expo in 2010. He added the Learning & Teaching Expo tothe portfolio in 2012 and 2014 Natural & Organic Products Asia. 2016 will see the first edition of theHK HR Summit.

Stuart is passionate about the power of face-to-face business matching events, and understandsthe importance of people power. t
