2012 MANUFACTURER & EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARDS

MESSAGE FROMGREG HIGDONPRESIDENT & CEO, KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTURERS

ards, and promote manufacturing here in the Commonwealth.

Struggling global and U.S. economies have continued to have a major im-pact on business in general, and manufacturing in particular. Although we hope we have seen the worst of this recessionary period, many families, communities and companies are still feeling the effects of the economic downturn. Nevertheless, many sectors of the nation’s economy are begin-ning to show improvement, and manufacturing is leading the way back to prosperity in that movement.

This year, KAM actively promoted and celebrated Manufacturing Day in Kentucky and across the nation. We are aggressively working to propel initi-atives to create an environment supportive of manufacturing and to provide a wealth of opportunities for our members, from advocacy to cost-saving affinity programs and opportunities to collaborate on issues of vital impor-tance. This is a pivotal time in our history as the convergence of needs fall upon our shoulders--need for education; need for talented workers; need for jobs, including our focus on the manufacturing sector; and need for remedial and advanced training to meet the needs of industry. In Kentucky, manufactur-ing = careers. That is our message and we invite you to join us in bringing that message to fruition.

KAM’s sole mission is to raise the prosperity of all Kentuckians by creating and protecting a manufacturing-friendly environment throughout the Com-monwealth. As the only association totally focused on manufacturing, we take that responsibility seriously, with a great deal of pride and commitment. As the Association begins its second century of service to manufacturers in the Commonwealth, we thank you for your continued commitment to KAM and Kentucky’s number one economic engine, manufacturing!

A lifelong Kentuckian, Abramson received a Bachelor of Science in business economics from Indiana University and a law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. Abramson served in state govern-ment as general counsel to Kentucky Governor John Y. Brown, Jr. from 1979-1981.
