ABOUT FILMHOUSE

Filmhouse is Scotland’s foremost independent

cinema, comprising three elegant cinemas, a

thriving Café Bar as well as various smaller

meeting and event spaces.

Part of the Centre for the Moving Image (CMI),

which is a registered charity also incorporating

the Edinburgh International Film Festival

and the Film Guild, the world’s oldest film

society founded in 1929. The CMI is funded

by Creative Scotland, the City of Edinburgh

Council, EventScotland, the Scottish

Government and the BFI, as well as through

earned income from the cinemas and Café Bar.

The building was originally a church built

c.1830 and was converted gradually during

the 1980s. It now houses three beautifully

presented cinemas fully equipped with state of

the art projection and sound facilities, enabling

us to screen a wide range of formats, including

digital, 35mm and 70mm film, making us one

of the most versatile screening venues in the

UK.

Here at Filmhouse we can host a wide variety

of different events, parties or meetings. These

have so far included: Private film screenings,

screenings of adverts, training videos etc, staff

briefings, client presentations, discussions/

debates, product launches, drinks receptions

and even weddings.

OUR DIFFERENT EVENT SPACES

Our Cinemas are each fully equipped auditoria

with state-of-the-art digital projection

equipment, as well as the facilities to screen

a wide range of film formats including digital,

35mm and 70mm. Each also offers video

projection, laptop presentation, PA system,

microphones, wifi, fixed internet and a lectern

(full technical specification for each room can

be found in the Appendix.) They range from

large-scale down to more intimate spaces.

We also provide a number of Meeting/Event

Rooms, which can be hired separately, for

breakouts from cinema spaces and can still be fully

catered by the Café Bar.

CAFÉ BAR & CATERING PROVISION

Our Café Bar provides a great selection of

fresh, imaginative and affordable food to our

customers throughout the week, but can also

cater for your events and private hires.

This can range from simply tea/coffee

refreshments for meetings, through to full

catering provision. We are also used to

providing fun and imaginative snacks for

cinema audiences such as picnics or snack

boxes.

Prices start from:

– Refreshments: £2.75 per person.

– Light lunch: £10.25 per person.

– Full canape selection: £16.25 per person.

– Picnic lunch, served in a cinema, from £6.95 per

person.

The Café Bar, or an area of it, is also available for

private hire subject to cinema timetables.

Our Café Bar is also open to the public from 8am

on weekdays, so also provides a perfect informal

meeting choice for businesses throughout

Edinburgh.

All prices include VAT at the standard rate and are

Our Café Bar provides a flexible event

option, however due to the demand of

cinema goers we normally try to restrict

private use of this space during busy

times of the day (i.e. between Noon &

3pm, and between 5pm & 9pm).

During these periods, we therefore

impose minimum charges for use of the

space, as detailed below.

At other times, hire can be arranged by

agreement with Filmhouse, usually with

no hire fee providing catering is also

being sourced.

All prices INCLUDE VAT at the standard rate and are subject to change.

In the event that any catering invoice falls below these amounts due to last minute reductions in numbers or no shows on the day, the minimum charge will apply.

APPENDIX: FILM SCREENING RIGHTS
