    Background

    From 2006-2010 Hmunicipality and HOld Vicarage organized the manyyears long project Dusj v dsju. Friendly. Commercial and culturalrelationships between Rogaland and Russia.The project was supportedby The County of Rogaland (RUP Regional programme of development)and Sr-bank.

    The aim of the project was to develop knowledge about the relationshipbetween South West Norway and Russia during the period 900 2010 andto strengthen contacts in the fields of commerce, education, culture andsocial relationships. The projects main part was a larger cultural historicexhibit ion under the heading From Viking Voyages to Oil Drums.

    As to further develop the knowledge about Russia in our region and tostrengthen the relationship between Rogaland and Russia HOld Vicarage

    and Stavanger Art Museum would like to carry out a larger art project.

    Exhibition theme and organization

    Some of the main characteristics of Russian art since the late 1800s havebeen a willingness to experiment and a willingness to communicate with awider audience. These characteristics are reflected in different styles and-isms that also show the turbulent changes that the Russian society hasundergone.

    The exhibition project that will appear at the Stavanger Art Museum andH Old Vicarage and will be divided into three different periods / themesthat will let a Norwegian audience be aware of Russia's diverse art istic andpolitical history :

    Through posters, photographs, film, book design etcthe exhibition will, among other things, focus on thenon-traditional and experimental use of traditionalmedia in the 1920s and 1930s - a use that has hadenormous influence in the Western world.
