Do you consider a research career in Europe?
Yes No

Suggestions: • Boston is a great location for this kind of
events given the high quality, volume and intensity of education that takes place in Massachusetts
• I think the key speakers should be real
experiences of researchers explaining why they decided to go to Europe, why they choose the specific country, etc
• I would definitely have some biotech
companies present • I wonder if there is a way to prevent
turning this into a competition between countries trying to get the most researchers, and trying to sell their countries to the audience. All that I am left with is that every country is in the top whatever percent when it comes to research papers, or research money, or grant opportunities, or publications per capita, or whatever measures they use in which their own country ranks higher in the graphs.
Suggestions: • As a general suggestion, the cost of living
(average rent, healthcare coverage, cost of studies in the universities...) should be indicated so American researcher could compare the cost of living in Boston and in different countries, and they won't get the impression that the Europen salaries are really low. I know it's difficult as a function of the city (Paris is more expensive than Grenoble for example), but just to give a broad idea
• More (and diverse) examples that can share
their story. I.e people who did become fulltime researchers in Europe
• Having more similar events would help
people who want to come back in Europe to know the most up-to-date information regarding opportunities
• A session on career possibilities for
alternatives to academic careers for those in the humanities would be very informative
Suggestions: • Boston; a presentation from the UK would
be great; more about the "normal" way in each country to start your own independent research - what do Universities offer etc. - If I am not considering to move to one of the presenting countries so far, this would be a good forum to make it clear what opportunities are actually there. So a description of the actual situation and what the most likely way to get into the system would be helpful
• My suggestion is really related to the focus
of the event. People in the audience are probably already aware of many of the opportunities presented. People attend to learn how to be successful in the application. Importantly some of the issue are not discussed. Contact point for example... I enjoyed the event and the effort of the speakers to advertise for new programs. In reality is not that easy especially in countries of institution that are less familiar in grant's application
