Akasha Corion

180 Degree Rule

A technique that I used in my preliminary task the 180 Degree Rule, which is when the camera is kept on one side of an imaginary line. This is used so it doesnt confuse the audience on where is the left and the right, when someone is walking down a street or is having a conversation.

In my film opening I used the 180 degree rule not only to keep to the imaginary like but also to keep the audience from making a connection with the character.

Another shot I used in my preliminary task Is the match on action shot. This is when a scene is taken from different angles and are made run smoothly together. This could be used to show someone walking through a door or walking up a flight of stairs.

In my preliminary task I used this shot to show my character walking a flight of stairs.

Looking back on to my preliminary task to see what I have learnt and shown in my film opening. An obvious technique I learnt and used is the 180 Degree Rule. This was a simple rule for me to use and I found it showed a good representation of characters.

I also learnt what effect different angles have on my film opening and the presentation of my characters and I believe I used them well and appropriately in my final product.

As I didnt show my character having a conversation and I was trying to keep her identity hidden when walking up the stairs, I didnt use the Match on Action shot although I believe I understand the concept of the shot very well in my preliminary task.
