Central building in the University of Girona |Final project|

The final project had to be developed successfully from the urban scale to the very detailed one. The purpose was that all the taken decisions in each of the different steps worked by themselves but also had to meet each other and have sense. It is a very realistic project, with a defined site and problem. Nowadays Girona’s University lacks of sociocultural services that are able to complete the campus. The following project gathers a very varied programme (from auditorium, dining-room and bar, shops ... to classes and offices) and has the intention to make them coexist by a central void that is the core of the building. It descends to the ground floor as a foyer to welcome the square that flows under the building. This central building places itself orthogonally taking into account the general plan of the campus. The open and changing character of the project is reflected in the elements that define the space,the structure and installations.

Theatrical Space in Rotterdam |1st year Master, TUDelft|

This is a project that wasn’t started directly from specific preexistences or requirements of the site. It had a previous experimental phase of mapping a pub-lic space through index models, pictures with pinhole cameras and drawings as means of investigation. Analysing a urban space in Rotterdam where motion and encounters occur, diagrams were taken of the different encounters (by chance or planned) and of the space as a transition and circulation place.So, by imposing a different number of directions and meeting points in the site the shape and programme of the building could be defined. In this case the program of theatre and auditorium has a very specific place in the closed vol-umes but the building also offers to the users and the city to have a space of encounter and circulation.

Garden Centre in Ullà |4th year, ETSAB|

The installation of a Garden Centre asks to be temporary and flexible. There-fore, the project is solved with dry, simple and easily manipulated materials: steel repetitive structure, aluminium and polycarbonate closing panels, and wa-terproof fabrics.The visualisation of all the complex is really important: the roof makes this very simple project attractive to the client from the main road. Also the functionality is thought: based in a longitudinal axis from which the different requested areas and the outer and inner paths are distributed. Another important issue is the water: the plants are watered taking advantage of the canal that runs trough the middle of the plot and with an irrigation system that is solved by collecting the water from the rain of the sloping roof making it a sustainable building.

Regarding the future changes of “Les Glòries” square, near Agbar Tower in Barcelona, and regarding the increase of economy and attraction in this new developed part of the city with very important iconic buildings, also a big resi-dential programme is required. The formal aspect of the building responds to the diversity of the city in this point: it goes from a little scale, that has been developed in the city during a lot of years, to a bigger one that is happening recently, where the future Park will take place in the future. So the roof expresses this change of scale and also responds to the sunlight. In such a big building a varied type of apartments are required to satisfy different users. This is thought by the section: simple, double and triple apartments that adapt to different situations.

Cities experiment constant changes that sometimes leave some deserted parts that don’t offer much to the city. In this case an industrial sector that is now obsolete. Redeveloping it we can make the city look at it again. One of the first strategies is to connect it directly to the centre of the city lengthening main streets in the shape of bridge that make the river not an obstacle but an attraction and a connection. A second one is to keep the ware-houses with more architectural and cultural value defining a new programme of facilities. In this way also the preexistence of the industrial sector will be shown to the city. And a third one is to make a grid and hierarchy that works with what is existing and that leads to the river, that is going to be an attraction part instead of a river that before worked only as an engine for an industry.

Can We? More than a Cinema!The plot is in an old factory. We start working with the idea that an old building can hold the programme of the Future, in this case of an Art-House cinema that goes further than then conventional one: why has the cinema to be watched by the spectator on a chair or the film has to happen in a same space? Redefining the typology of the Art House, making it as a social platform for the local community, making it iconic, gathering also other type of programme (housing, retail, ateliers, kindergarten, community centre, outside market...) This is the way we make the future cinema and we make a social space that can be used 24/7 for the whole community.

In this spot new opportunities have to be found in a street that has become obsolete as it’s past connecting function has been cut by the new infrastructure of the city and now works only as a parking place.The strategy is to keep this street and make from a remain of the city an element of connection of two green parts and also some public facilities. Three different “ribbons” adapt to give three different uses along the road. - The pedestrians ribbon - The sporty ribbon- The activity ribbonEach of the ribbons is from a different cheap material that is built on the same pavement of the road. A little intervention can solve a big problem.

The artist Pep Admetlla once showed me a model of a sculpture that is a tribute to the Catalan philosopher and writer Josep Maria Corredor. This sculpture is a 10 storey-building height that represents the exile of the philosopher. He did the model of an sculpture that showed the feeling of being in the exile, but didn’t know how this sculpture could be built.The drawings show the thoughts of which could be the used materials, the structure, the connections...

Once a year an important flower exhibition is held in Girona city centre, where different artists, architects and amateurs participate.

Our exhibition grew with the idea of two different concepts: we wanted the visi-tor to participate in the exhibition and use recycled materials, being conscious of the bad economy moment of the country. An “still life” would gather life when the visitors came into the space and col-laborated putting their self-made paper flower. The cupboard tubes where collected from different entities and business that would have thrown them away and afterwards cut and polished.“The paper and cupboard that comes from the trees goes back to the forest”
