-PlaceElbeuf is a little town near Rouen in Normandie, between Paris and Normandy ‘beach.The MJC (Youth and Cultural Center) work in area where lives around 50 000 habitants.
The MJC is a nonprofit organization , we promote a non formal education. Our main goal is the development of active citizenship for young people and adults through the implementation of social and cultural activities ,including entering into the fields of leisure, recreation and sports. Education and prevention.
The Youth and Cultural Center of the Region of Elbeuf is located in Normandy.We have many projects for a diversified public: children, young people and adults, we havedifferent actions with educational, cultural or social aims. We have several educational activities for migrants ( lessons in French, promoting social and professional inclusion) . Our goal is to fight against exclusions.We work with the school to help students in their formal educational work and connect teachers and family - parenthood - and we organize cultural actions for families with fewer opportunities.
We also work with young people, we organize many actions of support to their projects and thevalorization of their initiatives and we support the engagement of the young people in the local action.We have important experience in the field of youth work and assist many young people in very different projects: social, cultural, educational and professional. Most of our actions concern the engagement of young people and we support them in their process of autonomy.
We also provide support services to local associations and their leaders. We want to develop skills in project management or financial and administrative management. For us, associations are one of the pillars of local development; they are associated with the management of public affairs as key interlocutors. To this end, the MJC wants to be a space to test the responsibilities, the solidarities, the commitments of innovation and the valorization of the initiatives. Associations are very important for democracy and civic life.Our association helps to promote the dynamic development of individual and collective interests andto support the initiative of the inhabitants of the neighborhood.
We also have a multimedia department with Web TV and video training and we promote many actions and initiatives.We also organize numerous workshops, hobbies and activities in the cultural, artistic, scientific and technical fields.
The organization is a place where all the multicultural and social differences are represented. Wedevelop meetings for a better understanding, we consider the activities as a tool to live bettertogether beyond the social, economic and cultural situations.
We work with many local partners because we organize actions and events of intercommunaldimension (10 towns). The young volunteers will have the opportunity to meet and work with teams of professionals and volunteers from different youth structures, prevention, social or cultural. They can also be in contact with local elected officials and many publics. This opportunity and opportunity for meetings and links with the actors and the local population is for us fundamental, with the aim of cultural discovery and valorization of European values.
Period of projectFrom January 15, 2019 to september 15, 2019: 8 months
- Volunteer Tasks (35h per week)• The EVSF volunteers could be involved in many project in the MJC including social, educational and cultural
activities.
• Migrants program: French classes, cultural workshops and visits, social escorting.
• Leisure activities for children and teenagers during holidays of after school.
• Events: «Village des Sciences» (event promoting the discovery of Science), intercultural week, «Village des Associations» (event promoting local civil society), sustainable development week, initiative and citizenship week, International Volunteers day.
• Multimedia lab: access to Internet, office and video traineeship, games workshop, mobile computers, Web TV.
• Scientific, technological and environmental activities for children and young people: CNRS club, «small scientific» club, scientific or environmental animations within school or youth groups, organization of youth workshops.
• Support for the local civil society and development of initiative amongst the young people: help and advice for organization, training.
• School coaching: for children from the first year of kindergarten through primary and secondary school : help with homework, cultural and pedagogical workshops, introduction to English, educational outings and visits. Training, meeting and exchange days for the school coaches of the district. For families: links with the school establishments and familial outings.
• Web TV and video workshops.
• Administrative tasks as communication (flyers, advertisements, etc.).
More informationWe have many possibilities for involving EVS volunteers in a project because we receive internships and volunteers all the time and it depends on their profile and the topic they are interested and motivated in. We work with adults or children and teenagers.
If the volunteer is interested by multimedia TV or video, we develop projects with the college and university.

We also develop international activities with European partners about citizenship and we will organize some events: exposition, debates about this topic during the year.
If the EVS like Scientific or Environmental activities, we work with children in the neighbor and also children that are in the hospital.
The EVS will be integrated in the work team; it is composed of 40 persons.There are also around twenty active volunteers (both young and adult) which work with the public.The MJC works with many local and regional partners: nonprofit organizations, local communities, youth organizations and many small associations...
- Accommodation and facilitiesA accommodation will be rented / the EVS will stay in a flat with shared living spaces and a kitchen ( the volunteers must cook their own meals - we provide 7€ per day for food ).
On the other trainees of the MJC will also be asked to stay there, which will promote contacts with the French youth.
They benefit from all the comfort for a long-term home.
The accommodation will be at a reasonable distance of the MJC, a monthly travel card they will be provided to be able to move throughout the «Rouen Normandy» metropolis, for both, entertain, access to care, shopping, enrollment in recreational or sporting facilities.
Individual support: 180 € per month.
Paris can also be reached easily by train: 1 h 15.
- Profile of volunteersWe look for 4 motivated youth (18 - 30 years) from Spain, Bulgaria, Germany or Greece. Some experience with youth or migrants will be appreciate but the most importantly motivation to work with these target groups.
Some basic French will be appreciated but it is not obligatory. French lessons with other members of the MJC is provided during all the year, 4 hours a week.
Depending on the profile (skills, knowledge, hobbies, and passions) of the volunteer, he/she will be involved in relevant activities.
