I LEGAL BASES AND GENERAL CONDITIONS

1. This European Technical Approval is issued by the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment in accordance with:

− Council Directive 89/106/EEC of 21 December 1988 on the approximation of laws, regulations and administrative provisions of Member States relating to construction products

1, modified by the Council

Directive 93/68/EEC of 22 July 19932;

− Décret n° 92-647 du 8 juillet 19923 concernant l’aptitude à l’usage des produits de construction;

− Common Procedural Rules for Requesting, Preparing and the Granting of European Technical Approvals

set out in the Annex of Commission Decision 94/23/EC

− Guideline for European Technical Approval of Internal Partition Kits, ETAG N° 003, Edition July 1998.

2. The Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment is authorised to check whether the provisions of this European Technical Approval are met. Checking may take place in the manufacturing plant (for example concerning the fulfilment of assumptions made in this European Technical Approval with regard to manufacturing). Nevertheless, the responsibility for the conformity of the products with the European Technical Approval and for their fitness for the intended use remains with the holder of the European Technical Approval.

3. This European Technical Approval is not to be transferred to manufacturers or agents of manufacturer other than those indicated on page 1; or manufacturing plants other than those indicated on page 1 of this European Technical Approval.

4. This European Technical Approval may be withdrawn by the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment pursuant to Article 5 (1) of the Council Directive 89/106/EEC.

5. Reproduction of this European Technical Approval including transmission by electronic means shall be in full. However, partial reproduction can be made with the written consent of the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment. In this case partial reproduction has to be designated as such. Texts and drawings of advertising brochures shall not contradict or misuse the European Technical Approval.

6. The European Technical Approval is issued by the approval body in its official language. This version corresponds to the version circulated within EOTA. Translations into other languages have to be designated as such.

II SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF THE EUROPEAN TECHNICAL APPROVAL

1 Definition of product and intended use

1.1. Definition of product

The system of internal partitions is conceived and installed according to the instructions of conception and installation of the holders of the ATE. The system " height partition MEGASTIL ® " is used for the construction of division partitions, separating wall or partition wall lining partition of very height wall. It is used in public establishment, in the industrial premises and in the premises of storage and in a general way in all the premises where the levels of requirement concerning the mechanics, the fire, the acoustics, the insulation and seismic survey is required. These requirements can be accumulated.

The MEGASTIL system ® constituted by components of the PLACOPLATRE range brings a solution adapted in every levels of requirement, by varying:

� The primary frame (thickness, centre-to-centre, double profiles) � The secondary frame (product, centre-to-centre) � The composition of one or several facings (product, number and thickness of plasterboard) � The insulation (product and thickness of the insulating material)

1.2. Components of MEGASTIL ® system

• MEGASTIL ® profiles : They are identified by a specific marking indicating the place of

manufacturing and the PLACOPLATRE ® company

Profiles are : o For the primary frame : stud, channel, corner o For the secondary frame : rail, pan

Accessories MEGASTIL ® are : o Stool o L-brace EQC o L-brace

• MEGASTIL ® self-drilling screw and lamp holder

• Facings are constituted by plasterboards of PLACOPLATRE range : type A, H1, F or I of plasterboard MEGAPLAC, PLACOPLATRE®, PLACODUR, PLACOFLAM, PLACOMARINE, LISACAL®, STUCAL®, PLACOPREMIUM®.

• These plasterboard are in accordance with the NF EN 520 standard, except for plasterboard STUCAL ® which are in accordance with the NF EN 15283 standard, as well as with the additional specifications defined in the specifications put down in the CSTB. Plasterboards come from one of the following factory : VAUJOURS, CHAMBERY or CHERVES de COGNAC. Thickness : 12.5 -15 18.- 25 mm.

• The systems of treatment of joints (jointing compound type 3A and 3B of the range PLACOPLATRE associated with the PP jointing tape) are in accordance with the NF EN 13963 standard as well as with the additional specifications defined in the specifications put down in the CSTB. They come from the factory of VAUJOURS. o insulations according to the destination and the intended performances are : o polystyrene PLACOPLATRE ® in accordance with the NF EN 13163 standard o glass wool or rock wool panels from ISOVER in accordance with the NF EN 13162

standard. The additional products with specifications: the rawls (for example Baraco of Etanco company or RAWLEX of RawlPlug company), bolts (screw and nuts), lag screw.

1.3. Intended use

The systems of partitions MEGASTIL ® are used for division partitions, separating wall or partition wall lining partition of very height wall, non-loadbearing, to assemble on construction site in buildings of offices, public establishment. These systems are partitions which are convenient for uses subjected to fire reaction requirements, uses of compartmentalization firebreak, uses subjected to the rule in dangerous substances, uses that may present risks as regards the safety of use and subjected to the rule in this domain and to the other uses than those enumerated before. The MEGASTIL® DOUBLE partition is in accordance with the requirements of the category of use a and b of the chapter 2.2, and for a category of use IV of table 2 and for a category C, D and E of table 1 of the ETAG 003. The MEGASTIL® SIMPLE partition is in accordance with the requirements of the category of use c of the chapter 2.2, and for a category of use IV of table 2 and for a category C, D and E of table 1 of the ETAG 003. The partition wall lining partition MEGASTIL® is in accordance with the requirements of the category of use c of the chapter 2.2, and for a category of use III of table 2 and for a category C, D and E of table 1 of the ETAG 003. The partitions kits are intended to be used as :

• Structure able to be used as a sufficient support and possibilities of fixation,

• an average air temperature range from 5 °C to 35 °C with a minimum of 0°C and a maximum of 50°C and an average relative daily humidity range from 20 % RH to 75 % RH. Maximum air relative humidity only exceeding 85% for short periods of time.

Examples of MEGASTIL® partition are given in annexes.

1.4. Assumed working life

The tests and assessment have been based on the assumption that the working life of partitions MEGASTIL® for the above described intended use is at least 25 years. This cannot be understood as a guarantee given by manufacturer or CSTB, but this must be considered as a help to the choice of the good product according to the assumed working life and economically acceptable works.

2 Characteristics of product and methods of verification

The assessment of the intended use of the system MEGASTIL ® with regard to the Essential Requirements was realized according to the Directives of the guide ETAG 003.

2.1 ER1 – Mechanical resistance and stability

The partition are considered as non-loadbearing parts. That is why this Essential Requirement is not treated.

2.2 ER2 – Safetu in case of fire

2.2.1 Reaction to fire The reaction to fire of plasterboard is listed in table 1 :

2.3 – ER 3 – Hygiene, health and the environment 2.3.1 the giving-off of formaldehyde, asbestos, pentachlorophenol or other toxic particles or gases Plasterboards and jointing materials do not contain asbestos. Influence on air quality : no dangerous materials. As a supplement to the specific clauses concerning the dangerous materials contained in this European Technical Approval), other requirements on the products can be applied (ex: transposed European legislation and national laws, rules and administrative measures). 2.4.1 Resistance to dynamic loads (Impact of soft body - bag 50 kg). The MEGASTIL® SIMPLE partition of 3.65 m height and 210 mm thickness made of 2 plasterboards of 12.5 mm thickness has been tested. This partition represent the weakest configuration. This partition has a satisfactory resistance for the category of use a and b of the ETAG chapter 2.2, for a category of use IV following table2 and for a category C, D and E of the table 1 of the ETAG 003. Partition has been tested with impact for a category of use IV b : Up to 1.5 m above pedestrian level with

2.4.3 Safety against personal injuries by contact The examination of partitions MEGASTIL® carried out within the framework of the tests noted above and seen on the building sites carried out, confirms the absence of pointed, cutting or abrasive edges on the facings of the partitions likely to wound people.

2.7.1 Resistance to functional failure from impact load Partitions MEGASTIL® even in the most unfavourable configuration have a satisfactory behavior after 3 impacts repeated with a soft body of 50 kg and answer the specifications necessary for a use in category IV. The results obtained with the tests and the deflection recorded are indicated in table 5.

3 Evaluation of Conformity and CE marking

3.1 Attestation of conformity system

The systems of attestation of conformity specified by the European Commission in mandate Construct 98/213/EC, notified by EC 2001/596/CCE decision, is system 3. However, for partition kits wwith “reaction to fire” class A1 requirement (without testing), specific system is 4. Table 7

The systems of attestation of conformity 3 is described in the CD 89/106/EEC, Annex III, 1 (ii), second possibility, and is detailed as follows :

a) Tasks for the manufacturer

- Tests of the initial type of the product: the results of the tests carried out for the evaluation of this European Technical Agrement, can be used provided that it do not have there change in the process, the manufacture and the plan of controls of the products. In the contrary case, the tests necessary of type will have to be approved by the manufacturer and the CSTB.

- Factory Production Control, the manufacturer exerts a continuous internal audit of production. The checks are carried out on the raw materials and with various stages of the manufacture of the products to ensure quality and the aptitude for the use of the components. The frequencies on the raw materials, the checks and tests during the production and on finished products are defined in the plan of controls approved by the CSTB. The results of the controls carried out on the principal components of the kit (insulation, plasterboards, profiled and material of jointing), are consigned progressively with their obtaining on registers. These registers include all information necessary on manufacture which could be useful for the good comprehension of the results. The manufacturer preserves these registers

3.2 Responsibilities

3.2.1 Responsibilities of the manufacturer

3.2.1.1 Factory Production Control The manufacturer applies a system of continuous controls in factory. Controls, on finished product, of the components includes :

3.2.1.2 Initial type-testing of the product

As an integral part of the evaluation as of this European Technical Agrement, the results of tests of the initial type are usable, except if major changes in the line of production or the factory intervene. In such cases, the tests of the type necessary must be approved by the CSTB and the manufacturer.

3.3 CE-Marking and information

The CE marking shall be affixed to the packaging and accompanying commercial document.

The symbol « CE » shall be accompanied by the following information:

− Name of the product : CLOISON GRAPHITE 78

− name or identifying mark of the producer and manufacturing plant

− the last two digits of the year in which the CE-marking was affixed

− number of the European Technical Approval, and indications to identify the characteristics of the partition kit and the characteristics where the “no performance determined” approach is used

The documentation of the holder of the ETA will bring following information:

4 Assumptions under which the fitness of the product for the intended use was favourably assessed

4.1. Manufacturing

All plasterboards, profiles, fixings and jointing materials are manufactured and placed on the market by PLACOPLATRE.

4.2. Installation

The main operations for installation are:

− Scribing

− Installation of profiles

− Installation of plasterboard

− Installation of insulation materials

− Treatment of the joints and various connections

Installation details are given by PLACOPLATRE in the Manufacturers Installation Guide. The install of these height partitions requires an adapted material (lifting, platform..)

5 Recommendations

5.1. Recommendations for packaging, transport, and storage

5.1.1.Packaging

PLACOPLATRE ensures the conditioning and the packaging of the components of the system partitions MEGASTIL

5.1.2. Transport

PLACOPATRE ensures the transport or let the purchaser to ensure the transport himself.

5.1.3. Storage :

The different components (plasterboards, jointing materials, profiles) will be stored in a room specially provided for this purpose. The conditions to respect in storage facilities are those mentioned in the § 2.3. of the ATE guide, namely in particular :

− an average air temperature in the range from 5°C to 35°C. For jointing materials, the products in paste must be stored safe from freezing and the sun and the powder products safe from moisture. These products should not be used with a temperature of the air lower than 5°C.

Partitions MEGASTIL® DOUBLES Partitions MEGASTIL® DOUBLES are composed of two vertical lines of studs MEGASTIL® on which are screwed horizontally outside of each one of these profiles sill MEGASTIL®. On sills MEGASTIL®, the PLACOPLATRE facings are screwed.

These partitions MEGASTIL® DOUBLE are used mainly in separation in the buildings where the requirements of sound insulation are very important, or in buildings where the requirements of deformations applied to one of the facings should not affect the other facing.

Partitions MEGASTIL® SIMPLES Partitions MEGASTIL® SIMPLES are composed of one vertical line of studs MEGASTIL® on which are screwed horizontally on each side the sills MEGASTIL®. On sills MEGASTIL® the PLACOPLATRE® facings are screwed.

These partitions MEGASTIL® SIMPLES are used mainly in distribution

in the buildings where the requirements of fire resistance are important, or in buildings where the mechanics requirements are severes, where the requirements of sound insulation are high without justifying a double framework.

The installation of pan MEGASTIL® is done horizontally on the height necessary. One screw MEGASTIL® is fixed every two waves, in the hollow of the waves, to 340 mm of distance between centres approximately and on each stud. The connection of the pans is done on the flange of stud MEGASTIL® and the pans are installed free in and out. The lines of vats are posed preferably with shifted joints and the covering of a line on the following one is done on a wave.

Stool MEGASTIL®

The stools MEGASTIL® are the principal accessory of fixing of the stud MEGASTIL®.

They are fixed in the structure using suitable means such as: � through bolt or steel anchor for concrete

� steel bolt, auto-drilling screw, ou filler metal

� Metallic coach screw for timber.

Stool 140-170-200-230

MEGASTIL® stools are located as well at the bottom and the top of MEGASTIL® studs. MEGASTIL® stools comprises one or two holes on the smallest return. They are bored on the large return of four oblong holes of 109mm length, which authorizes a free dilation of MEGASTIL® studs for fire resistance and makes it possible to resist to floor deformations. The width of the stools is adapted to the section of the framework.

Stool 100

The 109 mm holes on the large return of the stools allow to resist to floor deformation up to 30 m span with deflexion of 1/300 for example

L-brace EQC MEGASTIL®

L-brace EQC MEGASTIL® ensures the intermediate connection of MEGASTIL® stud with the structure in the case of partition wall lining. In this case, they are fixed on the structure via the small return at the means of fixings used for the stools. Then, the stud is fixed on the large return by two screws MEGASTIL®.
