EGNSS-based virtual balise in railway signalling can offer significant cost savings
GNSS within European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS):
Reduction of ERTMS dependence on infrastructure and elimination of unnecessary cost connected with physical balise installation and maintenance(virtual balise concept)
Improve ERTMS attractiveness for low traffic lines
Make the best use of European GNSS, and new potential of multi-GNSS, multi-frequency, satellite augmentation, authentication, etc.

• There is a window of opportunity in the T&S market:
‒ Telecom, driven by 5G network roll-outs
‒ Electricity, with the transition from traditional to smart grids
‒ Finance, given the need to comply to newest financial regulations
‒ Critical infrastructures linked to PRS
Galileo ability to compete in T&STiming & Sync.
• By 2020, networks will have to adapt to
new regulations and standards

eCall is progressively introducing EGNOS and Galileo benefits in the automotive market
July 2018: Volvo was the world-first car-maker to announce equipping its vehicles with the regulated pan-European eCall
- Volvo V60 - Honda CR-V - Skoda Karoq Sportline - Mercedes GLE - BMW X5 - Opel Zafira - Porsche 911 – Tesla 3 - Renault Clio - SYNC 3.2- Volvo V60 CC - Skoda Scala - Mercedes AMG GT - BMW 3- Volvo S60 - Mercedes B
eCall regulation mandates the compatibility of EGNOS and Galileo in every new type of car/van sold in Europe from April 2018:
By end 2019, there will be 3 Mill. eCallvehicles sold
By mid-2021, there will be 10 Mill. eCallvehicles sold
By 2025, ALL cars sold in Europe will enable eCall (19 Mill. per year)
