ETTLIS-2012 has arrived. Two-years long waiting are over now for the revisit of ETTLIS-2012. With its previous two appearances, it had given full life, professionalism, gathering and fun to the LIS professional across India and abroad. The students, teachers, professionals and even the groups, associated with library activities have now joined at the venue of ETTLIS 2012, the Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology (JUET) Guna. With the successful completion at two of Jaypees sisters concern university, JIIT Noida and JUIT Wakhanaghat respectively, now it is the turn to complete the part of ETTLIS series with all the Jaypee Groups universities. The hardworking and dynamic organizing secretary Dr. Sanjay Kataria with his two young associates from JUIT and JUET, Mr. Shri Ram and Dr. Sudeep Sharma has now fetched that dream to be true. He has shown to the world especially Indian librarians, a conference culture, and the heritage which itself set as a standard. Now the ETTLIS brand has become a truly and very truly an international leader and earned numerous followers. The creators of this brand got the support and morale from different sources, to count a few Jaypee Groups education culture, Dr. Y. Medury, Group COO and former dynamic VC Prof. J.P Gupta in general and the peoples support in particular.

ETTLIS 2012 As the name goes, ETTLIS in the year 2012 was chosen to be held at JUET Guna. The venue with its sprawling campus with natural green carpet and its supportive team started with a big bang. The international symposium with its leader Dr. Sanjay Kataria as the general secretary of the event with his two go-ahead co-organizing secretaries considered to be left and right hands of their leader did again with a gigantic start. The two supportive strengths were Sri Ram and Dr. Sudeep Sharma. This legendary event was directed by its programme director Sri I.R Kumar an experienced and a management consultant from Vaisnav Group of Institutions from Indore. The activities of the event were reported with the helpful inputs from co-chairs of different technical sessions by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Swain as its Rapporteur General. The flavouring success of each section and sub-sections of the programme was schematically co-ordinated by two groups of programme co-coordinators. The first part of the session was looked after by energetic library practitioner from University of Swaziland, Swaziland along with is co-coordinator Dr. Sridevi J. a well experienced library manager from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. The second part was successfully carried out by Mr. G.P Reuben, a strategist and an

Registration

Registration was the true witness to any academic conclave and the case was with ETTLIS-2012 too. It was observed that a substantial part of attendance was through preregistration and despite, on-the-spot registration was also an eye-catching crowd puller before the dawn of the event. Everybody was trying to see the beautiful kit provided to the participants as it is a customary to have decorative and useful bag of any good event. Everyone whispers by the look of the bag pack with printed logo of ETTLIS 2012 at the front. This too was an additional value to this great event.

Inauguration Function ETTLIS-2012

The ETTLIS-2012 blown with its glittering inauguration ceremony at the jam-packed science auditorium of JUET Guna were all witnessed to the beginning of this grand event. Soon the dais was occupied by Mr. Allan Hopkinson, Middlesex University London as its chief guest with other delegates. The other profiler propel part of this ceremony were Prof. D.S Hooda, Dean, Research, JUET Guna, Prof. K.K Jain, Dean Academic, JUET, Dr. Sanjay Kataria, the organizing secretary, ETTLIS, 2012, Mr. I.R Kumar, the programme Director, Mr. S. H Mankad, Senior Vice-president, Jaypee Group and Dr. Sudeep Sharma, the co-organizing secretary, where as the event was conducted by Dr.Sonal Singh with brief introduction to the function introducing about the state of M.P , heart of India with its rich history, culture and tradition and the great artists Kalidas and Tansens association with the state followed by, a brief introduction of the guests in the dais. Before that the traditional ceremony of lighting of lamp along with beautiful Saraswati Vandna chorus by the JUET students gave a pleasantry moment at the initiation of the inauguration.

Prof. K.K Jain, the Dean academic JUET, Guna in his presidential address lauded the role of the librarians and how crucial their role in the context of higher education. He observed librarians the challenging while role, shifting the the handle

traditional journals into the digital and connecting this information with the users. Prior to that Prof. D.S Hooda, Dean, Research, JUET in his welcoming address extended a formal and hearty welcome to ETTLIS 2012 while briefing about the

JUET Guna specially the library as a integral part of the teaching community.

Mr. Allan Hopkinson, while addressing the crowd as the Chief Guest of the event, expressed his experience in India and he thumbs up the role of Indians in contributing to world of Information Technology. More especially the work Dr Sanjay Kataria doing in the form gathering people and having a wide range of discussions at this platform. His message was for LIS professionals to be updated with development of IT developments. Now it is the turn of Dr. Sanjay Kataria the organizing secretary, to speak on the inaugural event which the audience eagerly waiting for. In his inaugural address he spoke flashback to narrate the history of ETTLIS and how the journey was made with both taste of thorns and happy moments. Difficult but impossible was his message for reaching at ETTLIS 2012 as a visibly brand. In between the huge proceedings of the symposium with 700 hundred odd pages and 121 chapters with 198 authors was inaugurated by the guests in the dais. A colourful souvenir was also part of this ceremony. In the last part of this inauguration, Dr. Sudeep Sharma, the co-host and also co-organizing secretary expressed his vote of thanks where he acknowledged all those behind the scene, the faculties, students as well as the participants for their crowd pulling appearance. Plenary Talk The activities of day one, began with the plenary talk with the speaker Mr. John Paul Anbu K., University of Swaziland, Swaziland. His paper entitled Emerging Web technologies: Peep into future library trends, where he believed how libraries are the catalysts in the changing process of human knowledge. He also observed the different decades of growth of Web technology with different tags as, 1970s were of the years for automation, 1980s were devoted to digitization, where as 1990s were the days for multimedia application, while explaining this he labeled the contemporary experience with meaning-in-context activities. With this background he opened up many questions, the important one was what next for tomorrow. The solution he came up with is semantic web. Before he ends, discussion was followed by on the basis of his speech.

From the audience two prominent questions were marked, one by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Swain, Banasthali University with his observation that syntax and semantics have become lesser important areas of study, and how the librarians will develop their skills with this linguistic aspect of the discipline. Mr. Reuben, Oman also gestured the usefulness of semantics with the literature search. Before the lunch break three commercial presentations were also made, they were given freedom with the stipulated time to express their utilities of their products. Balani Infotech Pvt. Ltd, was the first followed by Proquest.These presentations were all about library activities esp. information source and service management aspect. 3M/Libcon, in its presentation highlighted the product esp. book theft and how the designed apparatus installed at the entry point makes a beep sound when unissued item is carried outside the library, followed by the delicious lunch at the Annapurna canteen of the JUET, Guna.

Technical Session The first technical session was on emerging technologies in libraries and information services. This session began with an invited paper entitled, need for a single window services in public libraries for a constant interaction between government and citizens. The session was chaired by Prof. B.S Nigam from DLIS, MCRP University, Bhopal and co-chaired by Dr. Amit K. Sharma, J.N. Vishwa Bharti University, Ladnu. In his speech Mr. I.R Kumar emphasized on the slogan, school chalein hum followed by the contributed papers, where speakers from different background delivered their presentations. Among the presented papers, to count a few, a joint paper by Savitri Majhi and Bulu Maharana entitled, RSS reader for content aggregation, how this RSS reader is helpful in content management system was the message. In another paper presented by the first of four authors Md. Imtiaz Ahmed entitled an analytical study of information services provided by IGKV library. This user study was about the authors work place.

At the end of this session the chair expressed his concluding remarks followed by a short briefing by Amit Sharma, the co-chair. Technical Session Session was devoted to changing dimensions of library in internet era, where Mr. G. P Reuben chaired the session and Dr. M. P Singh, DLIS, B R Ambedkar University, Lucknow was its co-chair. This session hosted two invited papers and some contributed papers. First invited speaker presented her own experience with the title digitizing initiatives of Indian writings in English: A case study with SCIELET digital library, where C. Sujatha narrated the case study conducted at the above said library. Digital object identifier has become a very interesting and quick solution system to trace and locate the online sources. This modern form of DOI has many facets to be discussed. To discuss all these issues the second invited speaker of the session was Dr. Nirmal K. Swain, Banasthali University. Among the contributed papers Dr. P. K Tripathy of NCERT, Bhopal described how e-documents can be accessed though a single gateway with his paper entitled a single gateway, access to e-documents in libraries. Dr. Anil K. Dhiman, Gurukul Kangri University spoke, how cloud computing is helpful in Library and information centres through its different types of applications with its advantages and disadvantages. Another paper by Leena Srivastav from Indore presented her perceptions of role of libraries in society. During the tea break the announcement by the programme co-coordinator for the poster session brought the crowd near the poster presentation area. During the half-an hour poster presentation the judges Mr. Shri Ram, Dr. Anil Dhiman, Dr. Sujeet Pandey and Dr. P.K Tripathy observed the posters ad presented the evaluation marks to the coordinators. Technical Session This one of two evening sessions began with two invited speakers happened to be from Philippines and Thailand. Sessions chair was Prof. S. Kumar, formerly with Vikram University, Ujjain and Dr. Sridevi J. Bundelkhand University, Jhansi as its co-chair. The first invited speaker Reysa C. Alenzuela, Embassy of the United States of America in the

Philippines spoke on her talk entitled Thomas Jefferson Information Center Libray Network: Shaping the narratives of dynamic engagement. Through her PPT presentation, she narrated how Thomas Jefferson Information Center Library Network is engaged in different kinds of information activities. The second speaker Mr. Patorn Nilate described how the library promotion activities are carried out in Thailand. He came up with a case study. Among the papers read as contributing presenters, important presentations were by Sunil Goria, S.K Pandey and Chandrakant Patel. Sunil Goria in his paper research description and access (RDA) for Indian libraries: A futuristic approach, informed the audience, how cataloguing principles and the international manual AACR2, has been converted into RDA. At the same time Dr. S.K Pandey of Kumaon University, Nainital described the usefulness of interactive sites, blogs. Coming up with a case study of user studies of the faculty members about their internet use of Dharmesh Desai University, Nadiad. In another paper Keerti Bala Jain produced a case study of scientomertric portrait of an information management journal. The title of the paper was scientometric analysis of the journal of enterprise information management: a case study. The last session of the day 1 was entitled best practices in library and information services where Prof. I.V Malhan from Central University of Himachal Pradesh was its chairperson and Dr. Sanjeev Sharma of University of Delhi was its co-chair. Among the two invited speakers, Prof. D.S Hooda from the host university explained his own experience of utility of ICT on library services with the invited talk impact of ICT on libraries. The second speaker was from Sri Lanka where he informed the audience about the experiences of Sri Lankan librarians on open source softwares. The speaker T. Rama Raman could present the open source software uses in Sri Lanka to the audience very succinctly. These invited papers were followed by the contributing authors. The first speaker Dr. Bulu Maharana beautifully presented how open access self archiving is an important activity to be innovated by the India librarians. could express the utility in a very useful way. In another paper by Aarti Joshi provided information on user satisfaction in using information of Indore-based medical libraries. In succession with these papers reading, Neelam R. Chavan came up with Role of the university library websites: A comparative study of top Indian university library websites with Global Benchmark. The result of her presentation gave the message that most Indian universities provide the basic information. After completion of the technical sessions the announcements by the programme organizers excited the entire audience. But this was not an academic session. Just to be relieved from the day-long eventful schedule the Ghazal orchestra, a professional troupe from a Gwalior-based Gharana was to be performed before the diner. The hour long programme with professional ghazalist enthralled not only the classical song lovers, but the entire audience including the foreign delegates. The entire hall was seamless, speechless and the enjoyment with their eyes closed for a while, could probably one of the events of the day. The number from great ghazalists both from Indian and Pakistan one after another were literally tide the audience with their seats. The evening was truly a tribute to the great Indian ghazal singer, Mr. Jagjit Singh as his best ghazals on the earth were performed in the show including, kahan tum chalegaye hoton se chhulon tum along with Pankaj Udhass ek taraf uska ghar etc. The glamorous and magnificent performance was having additional flavour when the students of B R Ambedkar University, Lucknow and a participant Ms Lata Suresh from Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs joined with their singing expertise to the show. After the show, with a delayed schedule, all moved to Annapurna canteen for the dinner. The day 1 ended with uncountable men, memories and movements. Day 2 With similar enthusiasm of the day 1 business, second day of the symposium resumed, with all interest and flavour. After the breakfast the people were gathered at the venue. Registration for those who arrived late was also there for reporting.

Plenary Talk This plenary talk of the day second was by Mr Richard Gartner, faculty at Centre for eResearch, Kings College, London. Prof. Jagtar Singh from DLIS, Punjabi University Patiala, was at the chair and Dr. G. D Aggarwal from Indore was its co-chair. In this, the speaker narrated how his center is doing all kinds of assistance to the fraternity at the college; during his talk he also briefed the library and information science activities at U.K. The metadata encoding and transmission standard with semantic presentation of information research was his point of concern. Special Session on Commonwealth Fellowship A special session of almost one hour duration was conducted on the role of Commonwealth Scholarship which was almost awaited for the young dreamers from LIS profession who wants to crack the fellowship programme. Mr. Alan Hopkinson, Middlesex University London, chaired along with three more speakers Dr. Sridevi J. Dr. Sanjay Kataria and Sunial Goria. The best part was all these three speakers were commonwealth fellows at some points of time.

Audience : The Source of Inspiration

After this highly interesting session the audience was invited for tea break at the same time poster presentation its second version was also conducted during this break. Three judges were John Paul Anbu K., Dr Satish Malik from MDU Rohtak and Dr. Nirmal K. Swain from Banasthali University. During these 45 minutes of presentation the public were also involved in questioning, so that judging process could be more analytical. Technical Session Two technical sessions were made before the lunch break so that both invited speakers and contributed paper readers could be able to finish up their deliberations. The first technical session entitled perception change in librarianship in which John Paul Anbu K. and Anita Jain were its chair and co-chair respectively. One of two invited paper was Be a library leader and inspire others to unlock their full potential, by Ms Kamani Perera from Sri Lanka, in which she advocated the ICT can assist the people and professional across the globe even India and Sri Lanka can take use of modern ICTs without their geographical barriers. The second speaker was Shri Ram from JUIT Wakhanaghat in which he shared his observations on the usefulness of YouTube at his own institute by creation of videos. Some important contributed papers were by Dr. Manoj Sinha, Shoubhagyabati Gupta, Nitin Choubey and John Abraham. In his deliberations Dr. Sinha shared the results of a study of college libraries of three districts of Assam. He says e-resources are at the forefront in preferring the reading materials. Shoubagyabati Gupta in her study introduced her newly set-up library of Central University of Rajasthan. In the paper by Nitin Choubey, he gives the knowledge of a study of MPSTME Shirpore Campus on the best practices related to library activities. ELearning and virtual learning is most warranted in modern day library use by the people, was the message of John Abraham. This was followed by a sponsor Emerald, a leading library journal producing company spoke in a brief presentation. The representative of the firm brought to the notice of the audience about their products services and business in India. Then after, people hurried up to Annapurna canteen during the lunch break.

The post-lunch session was chaired by Dr. Sonal Singh, Vikram University, Ujjain and co-chaired by Dr. Manoj Sinha, Assam University, Silchar. The invited paper was presented by the speaker Prof I.V Malhan, Central University of Himachal Pradesh on social media for effective human networking. In the deliberation Prof. Malhan brought out how social media play an important role in connecting people. In this session papers presented were very much similar to the pertaining theme of the session social legal perspectives in library and information service. The last session of the symposium was by the speaker Mr. Antony Kidd University of Glasgow, Scotland and Prof. I.V Malhan was in the chair, Dr. Prabhat Pandey, Librarian of Sarojini Naidu College, Bhopal was in the co-chair. In his deliberation Mr. Kidd presented a view of University of Glasgows information system and further how the system is effectively serving the university. Important Recommendations

Just getting over and awaiting for next session

1. Deliberations took place, on emerging technology and it is found that technologies are found at a short interval so it is resolved that library professional should be attentive with new technology. 2. Emerging technology created a need for continuing education programme for using the new technology, so it is resolved to revive the curriculum of LIS schools to accommodate new technologies and also organize continuing educational programme for benefit of LIS professionals. 3. Indian academic libraries are finding it difficult to get the necessary finance for using emerging technology in the libraries. So it is resolved to request the management of the academic bodies. UGC, AICTE etc, to provide necessary fund for creating necessary infrastructure for using new technology. 4. Public libraries are suffering for the want of funds now are unable to provide the services to the people. Therefore it is resolved to bring the legislation in every state and also support development of the public library services using the new technologies. 5. Open access resource both in books and journals are the need of the hour, therefore the libraries should increase OA resources and other open educational resources (OER) for overcoming the financial crunch in providing the information services.The Co-Best Paper Presentation: the recipient Reysa C. Valedictory Function The international symposium has come to an end through the valedictory function in which Prof. N. J Rao was at the seat of chief guest. Other dignitaries, the part of this function were Dr. Sanjay Kataria the organizing secretary, Mr Shri Ram and Dr. Sudeep Sharma, the co-organizing secretaries of the symposium, Prof. N.G Laxman Rao and Dr Nirmal K Swain, the Rapporteur General. Dr Sudeep Sharma, the co-organizing secretary and the host expressed his vote of thanks to one and all those were involved n participating, conducting, starting from transport services and the technical services to

other numerous people who were helpful in successfully conducting the activities of the event. Now the event has come to an end.

Coming to an end, the Valediction

The VC of JUET Guna, Prof. N.J Rao while addressing in his valedictory deliberation says, how libraries have become great part of a new education system and also the lauding at the role played by the library professionals. Dr. Sanjay Kataria while speaking on the occasion was thankful to all the teams associated with the success of this third version of the event at Guna. Dr. N. K Swain in his speech, reported the inputs collected from the co-chairs of the different technical sessions with few list of recommendations. Success Stories Many success stories were written by this event which created milestone in the academic conclave of India

Acknowledgements As a Rapporteur General, I have taken all precautions to compile this report inputs from my co-chairs of the sessions and also thankful to them. I must hugely thank to the organizing secretary, the ETTLIS leader, Dr. Sanjay Kataria to have trust on me for this great job of reporting from beginning to end at the same time thanks goes to coorganizing secretaries Mr. Shri Ram and Dr. Sudeep Sharma. I must not forget the supportive role of my programme director, Mr. I R Kumar and two great friends of mine John Paul Anbu K. from Swaziland and Mr. G. P Reuben from Oman for successfully conducting the programme. A special thank is due to Mr. Reuben for his multifarious skill and making himself involved in directing the programs and secretly finding the time to take snaps of beautiful and sometime unnoticed moments which were visible in the post-symposium period through social media esp. in Facebook. All precautions were taken not to exclude a single worthy event or activities or person with sincere inputs of my team. Now the report is before you to take you flashback of those two days moments.
