Jerry Altavilla, proprietor of La Fiamma Pizzeria has left for Italy in an attempt to be crowned the World’s best Pizza Maker.

Jerry last year placed second in the Australian Championships and is wanting to improve on that performance and capture a World Title.

This is the biggest event in the world of pizza and the most important event in the Italian Food Valley.

The 2014 Championships represent the 23rd World Championships, being held at the Palicassa de Parma (Exhibition Centre) in Parma, Italy between the 7th and 9th of April.

More than 600 Pizzaioli and chefs representing 35 countries will be battling it out to succeed in this years competition.

Following the event the winners will be part of a huge media promotion which will include the main national television networks, foreign newspapers and weekly publications. All the specialised food magazines throughout the European region will have correspondents there to report to their extensive readership.

Some of the categories included in the competition are Classic Pizza, Gluten Free Pizza, Fastest Pizza Maker, Individual Freestyle and Acrobatic Teams.

Jerry is yet another Peninsula resident making

it on the world stage in their chosen field.

Dining Out Beef & Barramundi - Quality Food & Quality Service

Recently I was part of a small group who dined at Beef & Barramundi and was impressed by the menu, the service and the high quality of the food.

The food is described as Modern Australian with a Korean influence, which reflects Head Chef, Trevor d’Mello’s culinary background.

I chose a vegetarian option of Stuffed Mushrooms with rocket salad and cheese stuffed fried zucchini flower. This was a delicious and light first course to start the meal.

My main course was a 500 gram serving of BBQ Pork Ribs. The ribs were coated in a sticky smokey BBQ sauce. This was cooked perfectly leaving the meat moist and flavoursome falling away from the bone making it easy to de-bone with knife and fork. The ribs were accompanied by char grilled corn and a serving of crispy chips.

While the desert menu looked tempting I was unable to indulge any further. Perhaps I might return for a coffee and desert one evening after a movie at the adjoining Cinema Paradiso.

The interior layout and furnishing is in keeping with the Australian theme while still appropriate for a higher end family restaurant. I would suggest that while the evenings are still mild that you consider a table either on the front deck or the courtyard at the rear of the restaurant.

An evening with Trevor and his team is not just a meal, it is a dining experience. It is rare to find a restaurant that offers a dance floor and live entertainment each week on Friday and Saturday evenings. This can be a quick meal after a long day or a true evening out, if you want it to be.

Beef & Barramundi has a very good reputation for functions and is able to cater for weddings and other major group functions.
