HAPPY NEW YEAR! Our Eta Beta chapter is so excited to share with you what we have been up to last semester and i’m honored to be able to put together a news letter for the parents and alumni of our chapter and what we have accomplished. We worked hard in October with Breast Cancer Awareness but did not forget to have fun with multiple sisterhood events. Our Eta Beta Chapter worked extremely hard through the entire month of October pairing with the Duquesne Football team for a huge “Think Pink” game where our chapter went into the center of the field and released balloons in memory and honor of those who survived, are still fighting, and lost their fight with cancer. The women’s volleyball team and swim team also became involved with our breast cancer education and awareness supporting us with pink out games. We passed out “Think Pink” ribbons to all the fans and set up tables selling breast cancer awareness merchandise such as ribbons, magnets, and lanyards. Throughout the month we collected over one thousand dollars from our fundraisers that was donated to the Susan G Kolmen For the Cure Foundation. THINK PINK! STEELERS GAME: Our sisters went to the Steelers vs. Eagles game on October 7th to pass out “Think Pink” Zeta Tau Alpha ribbons to the fans tailgating before the game DUCK RELEASE: ZTA released pink rubber duckies in the fountain in front of Canevin Hall on Academic Walk during a prayer service with Father Hogan PINK RIBBON: A balloon artist came to the think pink game and made us all elaborate hats of the “Think Pink” ribbons that could be seen from across the field. New Year, New OfficersIn November our chapter elected its newest Executive Council. Officers are slated through an application and interview process, then voted on by the chapter. The purpose of the Executive Council is the create the agenda for weekly chapter meetings and discuss important ideas that need the whole chapter to decide on. It is their job to make sure all members are following National Council’s rules and policies in all our events and programs.

Sisterhood & Service

SOREGAL’S PUMPKIN

PATCHIn October our ZISTERS took part in a sisterhood event traveling right outside of downtown Pittsburgh, not far from campus, to a pumpkin patch. They bonded over finding their perfect pumpkin, carmel covered apples, and apple cider.

SCHENLEY GARDENS NURSING HOMEA group of sisters attended the Schenley Garden Nursing Home in Oakland to spend time with the residents. We first received a tour of all the floors and became acquainted with how the workers and residents went about their daily lives. We then interacted with them by serving ice cream sundaes, giving manicures, and playing multiple games of bingo. It was a great way to fulfill our monthly service project, along with exposing the residents to Zeta Tau Alpha and enjoy their recreation time.

In September our sisters participated through out the week in a blood drive pairing with the American Red Cross, selling baked good in a booth at Carnival raising money for Duquesne, along with participating in the carnival performance. Our theme was “A Blast From The Past”, featuring songs from each generation such as Lover Girl by Tina Marie, Poison, Can’t Touch This, and Last Friday Night. Over all we took home first place for “best music”.
