Militants blew up a car bomb in front of a houseused by Iranians as a rest stop in the KadhamiyaDistrict of Baghdad, as well as explosives planted inan adjacent house, and Interior Ministry sourcesaid.

The explosions killed five people, wounded 18and severely damaged the two houses, the sourcesaid.

Cholera death toll in Haiti rises to 1,817PORT-AU-PRINCE, 4 Dec — The death toll of the

cholera outbreak in Haiti has risen to 1,817, theHaitian Public Health Ministry said on Thursday. Atotal of 36,207 patients have been hospitalized in thecountry due to this deadly epidemic, which hasaffected more than 80,000 people, mostly in theArtibonite Region in the north of the country, theministry said.

The Artibonite Region registered the most cases,with a total of 40,000 cases and 700 deaths, theministry added.

The unstable sanitary conditions in the country,due to a devastating earthquake on 12 Jan, haveaggravated the epidemic situation. best picture award at the 2010 annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards, topping 31 films from 15 countries. “Tangshan dadizheng” (Aftershock), directed by Feng Xiaogang, deals with the aftermath of the 1976

Tangshan earthquake that killed at least 255,000 people. It is the highest grossing domestic film of all timein China. Chen Daoming received the Best Performance award for his role in the film.

Asia-Pacific businesses to growover next two years

SINGAPORE, 4 Dec—Nearly 90percent of businesses surveyed in Asia-Pacific are planning turnover growthover the next two years, according toGlobal Enterprise Survey Report 2010on Friday.

The survey by the Institute ofChartered Accountants in England andWales (ICAEW) provides a picture ofhow businesses in the economicallyambitious Asia-Pacific Region arecontinuing to recover from the globaleconomic downturn, alongside detailson their current activity and aspirationsfor the future, said Mark Billington,the regional director for South EastAsia at ICAEW.

The survey found that around 70percent are planning growth of 6 percentor more a year, significantly higherthan in globally- engaged businessesin Britain and businesses in other EU

countries. The survey also found thatbusinesses in Asia-Pacific continue tohold the view that continuedglobalisation of markets will have apositive impact on their business,especially those in Singapore.

A total of 69 percent of businessessurveyed say they plan to expand into,or increase market share in, othercountries in the next two to three years.Most of those planning to expand aretargeting countries relatively close tohome, most notably China.

Over the past year, changes in rawmaterial costs are consistently cited ashaving had a negative influence oncompetitiveness across the region.Around a third of businesses acrossvirtually all countries in the regionhave been negatively affected bychanges in raw material costs.

activities is vital for uplift of health and fitness ofthe entire people. Since 2006, Zabuthiri Townshipof Nay Pyi Taw District has been holding masssports activities conducted on every Saturday inDecember, a long with sports events , andIndependence Day commemorative sports events.

Mass walk of December’s first week-2010started in front of Myoma Market here early thismorning.

Chairman of Myanmar Olympic CommitteeMinister for Sports Thura U Aye Myint, MOCmember Deputy Minister for Hotels and TourismU Aye Myint Kyu, departmental heads, staffmembers of the ministries and the public, totaling12,000, took part in the activity.

The route of the mass walk was from MyomaMarket to Myanmar Gems Museum via Taungnyo-Pyinmana Road and Raza Thingaha Road.
