BARCELONA IN THE WORLD

HOW TO GET TO BARCELONA

THE HISTORICAL CENTRE AND THE RAMBLAS

Capital of Catalunya, Barcelona is the second most important Spanish and European city in the Mediterranean area. Perfectly located by the sea and near the Pyrenees, Barcelona is well-communicated to the rest of Europe and all the other Mediterranean countries. With its well known cultural and architectural heritage, Barcelona counts 22 centuries of history and its main centres of interest are just near Escuela Mediterráneo. The official languages are both Spanish and Catalan, but as it always happen in the big cities you can easily hear and talk all the languages of the world.

Barcelona is reachable with all means of transport: by plane, train/car or by sea as well and even if it's a quite big city, moving and visiting this town is extremely easy, you can walk, use the bike or the public transports (metro and buses).

One of the most known places is certainly the Ramblas, a long walk located in the city centre that offers a great variety of bars, restaurants as well as flowers and newspapers shops, and other amusing entertainment as street actors. Walking along the Ramblas, you can appreciate interesting buildings such as Virreina Palace, the colourful Boqueria Market and the Big Liceo Theatre. Lateral streets are very interesting as well and among some, there's a one leading to the beautiful Plaza Real, an attractive square with palm trees and porch buildings. The Ramblas continue down to the old port and right at its end you can find Christopher Colombo statue, Escuela Mediterráneo is located in this area.In the city centre you can find many other interesting places which are worth to be visited like for instance The Cathedral and the big San Jaume Square, hosting the city hall of Barcelona and Catalunya government head office, as well as the Raval and gothic barrios with their lively tiny streets.

The most known parks are Park Güell, designed by Antoni Gaudi, Montjuich Park, located on the mountain of the same name and Ciutadella Park.

In order to enjoy a spectacular view of the city, you can go up to one of these two mountains: Montjuich is the mountain located near the harbour, where you can visit the Olympic Lluis Companys Stadium together with the Olympic Museum and San Jordi Palace. The other place where you can have an amazing view of Barcelona is Tibidabo Mountain, situated in the uptown area.

METHODOLOGY

1- The conception of the language:

2- The levels structure:

3- The teacher:

4- The activities:

5-The evaluation:

With the teaching method of this school the student will be able to communicate in Spanish from the beginning. The study program of Escuela Mediterraneo is planned for the actual use of the language: the student will learn how to use Spanish in order to invite someone, to go shopping, to write CV's, to complain about a service, to tell an anecdote, to express opinions and feelings. Our purpose is to enable the student to put into practice all these functions through the four skills (talking, listening, reading and writing) and through useful and relevant activities. The main aspects where our method is based on are the following:

Escuela Mediterráneo thinks about the language as both a system and a social communication ability. Right for this purpose all the activities that teachers suggest in the class are thought and organized in order for the student to get overwhelmed by the society whose language is the one he currently studies. The lesson itself is focused on the action and thought to be developed through different activities: oral and written comprehension, oral and written expression, oral and written interaction and in some cases mediation as well.

Escuela Mediterráneo follows the levels' organization used by the European Reference System and divides the classes in two big different groups according to the needs of the students:- general language course: these are courses where the student will progressively assimilate all the linguistic contents.- skills courses: these are the courses where the student will need to use and adapt all the linguistic contents according to the context and the communicative situation.

- is fully aware of the difficulties of the learning process and of those reflected by the subjects proposed;- decides about the activities in the class and adapts them to the needs, interests and expectations of the students;- wants the students to participate actively

- are communicative activities that involve an aim;- are thought to be developed in a concrete communicative situation;- involve directly the student;- satisfy the needs and the interests of the student;- are thought to support the student in “learning how to learn” and structured to enable the student to be self-sufficient and continue the learning process outside of the school context.

It aims to evaluate the student not only from a strictly linguistic perspective (exams) but also to measure his organization and methodology skills.
