A good night tonight for a game of hurling in Caherlag,
Carrigtwohill were the visitors for this Senior hurling league clash,
From the off Erins Own looked to be the stronger side when they
raced in to a six point lead with some fine scores from Mark
Collins & Eoghan Murphy & with both Shane & Kilian Murphy
well in control at the back it was looking good, however Carrig
slowly started creeping back in to the game & with some fine
scores of their own they only trailed at the break by a goal, two
minutes after half time Carrig goaled and with both teams
exchanging points the sides were level, Erins Own then stepped
up a gear Eoghan Murphy goaled for the second time in the
game & in the last ten minutes the points started coming to pull
away from Carrig to give strong finished & a win by a goal & four
points, James O Carroll Kilian, Shane, Eoghan & Kieran Murphy,
all played well on the night,

Senior Hurling Championship Erins Own 1-17 CIT 1-14
Blackrock was the venue for the first round of the senior hurling
championship this year against CIT, the Rockies had the pitch in
superb condition, but the rain hampered conditions in making it very
slippery,
Erins Own from the start looked the better side in this damp night but
CIT never left us pull away even at half time there was only a four
point lead for Erins Own & losing Kilian Murphy to a shoulder injury
was a huge loss to the full backline Dara Twomey stepped to replace
Kilian, the second half saw CIT up the pace & closing the gap, with
both sides exchanging points the sides were soon level with minutes
to go, With Eoghan Murphy firing over 10 points in total on the night
& the on form Cian O Callaghan finding the net in the dying minutes
was enough for Erins Own to get over the line, Cormac Dooley, Cian O

East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship Erins Own 1-14 Fr
O’ Neill’s 2-10
This year’s first round of the junior A hurling championship was
against Fr O’Neill’s in Killeagh on a sunny Sunday afternoon,
This was a game we were very lucky to win, to be fair to Fr
O’Neill’s they were the better side on the day, Erins Own
struggled in a lot of areas but still managed to go in at the break
with a two point lead, O’Neill’s dominated the majority of the
second half, Erins Own had to wait until the 23rd minute to get
there first score of the second half with a point from play from
Cathal Heavy this was the only score from play in the half from
Erins Own, With five minutes left on the clock O’Neill’s had a four
point lead, Barry Og Murphy added two fine points from a long
range free and a 65 & deep into injury time Kieran Murphy (post)
took two 21 yard frees the first one was deflected over the bar &

U15 Hurling Blitz 2016
All roads led to Sarsfields GAA Club on Saturday 30th April
where we were invited to an U15 Hurling Blitz as part of
Sarsfields 1916 Commeration week with Carrigtwohill & Cobh.
This was an excellently run blitz & a most enjoyable day had by
all players. Our first match was against Sars where we narrowly
lost after an epic battle by both sides. Our second match was
against near neighbours Carrigtwohill where we came out on top
& our final match was against a very strong Cobh team who were
outright winners of the tournament on the day.
All the Erins Own U15 panel can be very proud proving
themselves to be a match for any premier division opposition, the
mentors would like to thank each player for their commitment,
hardwork & display of hurling that they put on throughout the day.
Thanks to all involved for the running of this event & especially to
the parents for their support on the day. Míle Bhuíochas do Sars

de Burca from Carrigtwohill who took great photos on the day
Cormac Dooley & Shane

Senior Hurling Championship Erin's Own 4-23 St
Finbarr's 3-26
Sunday the 17 of July saw Erin's Own take on St Finbarrs in the
next round of the senior hurling championship in Pairc Ui Rinn in
what was probably one of the warmest days of the year, Erin's Own
we're without the service of some key players in Kilian Murphy,
Steven Cronin, Cian O Connor, Cian O Callaghan, James O Flynn,
Steven Horgan & Robbie O Flynn either injured or away which led
to some other players playing out of position, the Barrs had the
dream start to this game with three goals in the first twenty
minutes,
Erin's Own kept tipping away with points from the on form
Eoghan Murphy & Sean Kelly, the Barrs had only a two point lead
at half time in this relatively poor first half, Erin's Own 0-12 St
Finbarr's 3-05, the second half saw Mossy Carroll goal in the first
minute which sparked a bit of life, both sides started to get in to
this game the pace was flying & some fine score were coming from
both sides in which turned out to be a nail bitter, with minutes to
go Erin's Own were down four points & it was starting to look like
the Barrs were going to be the ones to take this, but Eoghan
Murphy had different ideas when he found the net Twice once in
the 28th minute & the next in the 32nd from a penalty which tied
the game at 3-17 a peace, Extra time was needed to try & separate
these two sides in which was at this stage a cracker of a game
Mossy goaled again & Mark Collins adding three fine points,

Under 8 girls enjoying a break in Caherlag
Well done to Daniel Clifford & his coaches in Killeagh this morning
for the U7 football blitz, 25 players on the age turned out great
numbers for the club & all players enjoyed the games
Junior
On a Sunday in May Clann
na nGael travelled to
Caherlag for our first game
in the 13 a side
competition. The West
Cork side got three quick
goals to give them a nice
head start. The Erinsown
girls didn't throw in the
towel and picked off a few
scores before half time.
Their display in the second
half was outstanding, Fea
McCoy got two fantastic
goals after switching from
corner back to wing
forward. Niamh O Connell
gave another exhibition of
football on the opposite
wing, linking up very well
with Becky Opperman and
Shauna Cunningham in the
middle of the field. Ali O
Neill was undoubtedly the
player of the match at wing
back, with Louise
Horgan(captain) and Ciara
Milner very solidly
supporting her at the back.
After a very sporting game,
Clann na nGael came out
on the winning side.
U16 A league V Bride Rovers .
Bride Rovers came out in full strength making some threatening
runs into the Erins Own full back line with goalkeeper Ciara Milner
making some fine saves. Ana Cruceanu was solid in full back
making some fine blocks to deny the Rovers of a score. Our young
u14’s Aoife Kelliher and Vivienne Keating worked tirelessly in the
full back line. Ellen Harrington put in an outstanding performance
in her first u16 game setting up Abbey Delaney for a super point.
On the half time whistle or girls were down 3 points to 1 point.
Captain on the night Becky Opperman got the girls fired up and
the started the second half with great fight and determination. A
superb goal from Fea McCoy roused the girls on even more. A well
won ball from Sarah Kiely set up Helen Savage for a point putting
the girls 2.2 to 3 points ahead. A converted free from Abbey
Delaney and another 2 points from Becky Opperman and our girls
looked to be in the clear. Our girls took the foot off the pedal for a
few minutes and allowed Bride Rovers 2 quick goals. Shauna
Cunningham and Ciara Fenton lifted the girls again with some
great runs from the halfback line setting up Helen Savage and
Muireann Kelliher for 2 points each. Sophie O’ Neill and Olwyn
Patterson won some great ball in the full forward line and worked
tirelessly to make sure we kept possession. Bride Rovers made a
threatening run through in the final minutes and substitute Gwen
O Brien did all she could to deny them a score. Sub goalkeeper
Fiona O’ Neill saved a great penalty but Bride Rovers ensured they
would not miss the rebound. It ended Bride Rovers 3.4 Erins Own
1.11 the Caherlag side coming out with a hard fought 1 point
victory.
U8
Our under 8 ladies Football
team played Lisgoold in the
first round of the under 8
league on a glorious sunny
day at Caherlag on Sunday
last May 15th.
In a tough and close game,
our under 8's put into play
all the skills they have been
working on since training
commenced in February of
this year.
The team has players aged 5
years to 8 years and the
priorities are fun and
friendship. New members
are welcome at any time, to
pop up on Sunday mornings
from 12 to 1. On another
lovely Saturday morning,
our under 8 ladies
footballers took on Inch in
Caherlag. Two games were
played so we could cater for
the older and for the much
younger players. The teams
were evenly matched and
this allowed for the skills to
be displayed. Players,
supporters and parents
enjoyed the occasion.
U10
We're now well into the season for the U10 girls football
team. We've been training on Sunday mornings and have
started training on alternate Thursday's now that the
weather has improved. The East Cork development
league has kicked off and despite two really good team
performances we've come out the wrong side of games
against Glanmire and Rockban.
This Sunday sees us playing Bride Rovers away and we're
looking forward to further improvement from the team.
We have 33 (yes 33!!) girls signed up this year and have
had to draft in extra coaches due to the numbers at
training. Some girls have been playing for a couple of
years, and others have just started this year - a really
great mix and there is a fantastic spirit of fun in the
group. We're still looking for more players, today's U10
can be the next Cork Senior player - or more importantly
to us - someone who has fun and enjoys playing Gaelic
Football while developing lasting friendships. Please
contact the coaching co-ordinator (Evan) on 087 8099003
if your daughter is interested in joining.
