LNG is an environmentally friendly alternative fuel for ships, especially in short sea operation and fast transport
• Energy density: LNG 50 MJ/kg, MDO 44 MJ/kg
• Lower fuel cost of LNG than MDO
• LNG has higher combustion efficiency
• LNG produces lower emissions
Dual fuel marine engine test facility is to be set up for converting diesel engine to dual fueled engine
Research:-
• Waste heat recovery study
• Fundamental of combustion and heat transfer
• Emissions measurement and control
• Fuel efficiency test, etc.
Reduce CO2 20-25% NOx 85-90% SOx and particulates ~100%
