Inspired by the wonderful knitting patterns of the 1950s, this zip

jacket with Reindeers and Christmas tree motifs is the perfect

Xmas sweater. Think Kris Kringle and Christmas story!

Worked in two colours in Erika Knight Vintage Wool, the strong

graphic pattern runs across both front and back of the jacket

and the stranding technique used makes the jacket doublywarm and cosy! It looks great in graphic pitch black and flax but

fab too in house red or blues such as dark with steve It has

two integral pockets, a front zip fastener and a retro style garter

    stitch collar.

    Tips & techniques

    To work from a chart

Designs with two or more colours are worked from a chart and the colours are indicated by symbols.

Each square represents a stitch and each row of squares represents a row of knitting. The patterns are worked in St st.

Read the K rows from right to left and the P rows from left to right.

    Stranding (or Fairisle) technique

Work with each colour according to the sequence from the chart, letting the colour not in use drop and strand loosely

across the back of the fabric.

    Reindeers

When working the reindeer motif (See section 2 of pattern) take both yarns to each end of every row to

maintain an even tension in this part of the garment.

    Zip

To make it easier to put in the zip, two stitches have been added to each front to be worked in garter stitch

(every row knit). Pin the zip to the opening, making sure that the knitting fits easily and is neither rucked nor stretched.

Pin and tack the zip to the opening. The knitted edges should come right up to the teeth of the zip. Work in back stitch

along the edges using a sewing thread.
