Third Graders Study EnergyMs. Watson’s third graders are studying energy in science. This includes different forms of energy, how energy changes from one form to another, and how energy travels. Students and Ms. Watson brought in circuit kits and had fun exploring with them during an interactive hands-on science class.

What’s Cookin’ in the PCS Science Labs? By Mrs. SchnabelYou may see science students working before school, after school, and during study halls. So what is cookin? PCS C-STEM Science Fair Projects. January 28, students in grades 7, 8 and 10 are participating in the local PCS C-STEM Science Fair. There are a lot of interesting projects that our students are solving using the scientific method in fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Advisors Mrs. Rankin and Mrs. Schnabel are busy making sure the forms and rules are completed correctly for our students to move onto the next level. Saturday, February 6, the students will be participating in the Western Minnesota Regional Fair in Crookston.

PCS Alumni Serving In the Armed ForcesTaylor Watnemo (PCS class of 2006), son of Harold and Rosalyn Watnemo of Fargo, was recently promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. Taylor attended PCS from kindergarten through graduation. Harold and Rosalyn had the privilege of traveling to San Diego to participate in his Pinning Ceremony. Taylor enlisted in the navy the day before his senior year, entering basic training in July of 2006, immediately following his graduation from Park Christian School. Taylor has served in the U.S. Navy for nine years and is assigned to the U.S.S. Gridley, Destroyer ship. Advancing to a Chief Petty Officer in nine years is a very impressive accomplishment. Mitch Young (PCS class of 2015), graduated from basic training in August. He is pictured in his Tropical Dress Uniform. He graduated from AIT (advanced individual training) at the end of October as a Fire Support Specialist and is now stationed at Fort Riley, KS. He is with the 1st Infantry Division, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. We are proud of Mitch and Taylor and pray for their safety and impact as they serve our country.

Mrs. SchnabelMrs. Schnabel has been teaching for 34 years, the last 3 at PCS. Mrs. Schnabel teaches 7th grade Life Science, 10th grade Biology, 11th and 12th grades Environmental Science, and Anatomy and Physiology at Park Christian School. She holds two degrees: a Bachelors degree of Science in Medical Technology and a Bachelors degree of Science in Math and Science Education, from the University of Mary, Bismarck, ND in 1975 and 1980.Tell me a little bit about your family:My husband, Reed, and I have been married for 36 years and we have two daughters. What do you love most about teaching? I love to do hands on teaching with labs. I get excited when there are neat specimens under the microscopes for the students to see. Sometimes I get so excited that the students smile at my excitement! I love to hear from my former students to see how they have grown to be responsible citizens. I also love to see my present students grow spiritually and academically. What do you like to do in your spare time?I love gardening especially flower gardening and helping my neighbors garden. The neighborhood children visit me daily to help me water my plants. I also do oil paintings, sewing, and mission work. The #1 best thing about following Jesus is…… the eternal salvation I have received because Jesus died for my sins.

THE PCS IMPACT Equipping Students to Think Biblically, Live Wisely, and Serve Faithfully Since 1981

“Ian had just finished reciting his week’s Bible verse to me and then all of a sudden he went right into reciting an unrelated verse. I asked him the reference and he said ‘Proverbs 18:10’ (nothing to do with the Christmas story, which is what they were memorizing currently). I asked him where he learned Proverbs 18:10 and he said ‘First grade!’ I double-checked later and he had it right! It is wonderfully heartwarming to see that the verses they are learning are not just ‘in one week and out the next,’ but they are really being hidden in our children’s hearts. Thank you!!! It is moments like these that affirm that we made the right decision in sending Ian to Park. We can’t wait to send his little sister there next year for kindergarten!” Angie Wood, mom of PCS 2nd grader

I have a good friend who just moved from Maple Grove, Minnesota to Denver, Colorado. We grew up at the same church together. We went to college together. We served on student council in college together. We roomed together. We were best men in each other’s weddings. We have a lot in common. We have one of those bonds that stays strong no matter what.He called me a few weeks ago while I was very ill at home. He asked how I was doing. I told him I was very ill, but would make it. He said, “I’ll one up you. I have cancer.” Wow. Those words hit me hard. Moments of silence followed. Our lives can change in an instant. The lives of people around us can change in an instant. Let’s make every effort to love God and love others while we are able. Let’s consider “others” more important than ourselves (Philippians 2:3-4). Let’s serve, encourage, lift up, and pray for others. A common question parents ask as their child returns from school is, “How was your day?” Maybe we as parents could consider a different question or at least a follow up question, “How did you make someone else’s day better?” Over the past few years I haven’t communicated with my friend, now in Denver, very often. His phone call and health diagnosis provided a new motivation to keep in touch more regularly. My goal for this year, a New Year’s resolution perhaps, is to cherish my friendships more and increasingly build others up. What about you? There’s enough hate and division in this world. Do you allow God to work through you to make someone else’s day better? Perhaps that could be a New Year’s resolution for you? Wouldn’t it be great for people to know we are Christians by the love we demonstrate for one another. Check out these amazing verses about loving each other: John 13:34-35; Romans 12:10, 13:8; 2 Corinthians 13:11; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 4:9; 2 Thessalonians 1:3; Hebrews 10:24; 1Peter 1:22, 3:8; 1John 3:11, 3:23, 4:7, 4:11-12; 2 John 1:5That’s my perspective.
