JUDGETBC

ENTRY FEES£25 per team

PRIZES 1st, £100; 2nd, £80; 3rd, £60 each for the two losing semi-finalists.

CONDITIONS FOR ENTRYTeams will compete in a knockout format competition, with a run-off between the runners up of the semi-final round to determine third and fourth places.

Matches in the first round will be determined by draw, with the exception that no two teams from the same hunt may be matched against each other.

Each competing hunt will provide at least one steward. The show will provide at least two stewards and a judge. The judge’s decision is final in all matters.

Two matching mirror-image courses will be built by the Show course builder. Each will be a short loop with obstacles, with the start and finish line in the same place. A short opportunity to view the course will be made available immediately before the competition. The course builder and arena party will be responsible for rebuilding any jumps knocked down during the competition.

For each round, the judge will toss a coin to determine which team has the choice of left or right course. Teams will make their way to the start on the appropriate side of the course. The starter will start each race by drop of flag.

Each rider will make their way around the complete course. On return to the start they will hand the baton (whip) on the next rider. The race is completed when all members of each team have crossed the finish line.

The race will be timed. 5 seconds penalties will be added for each jump knock-down. The winner of each round will be the team with the shortest time as adjusted by the time penalties.

86

If the whip is dropped on handover, the rider passing the whip on may dismount and hand it to the next rider who remains mounted

If the handover fails, and the next rider passes the first obstacle (eg first jump) without the baton, the team will be eliminated from that round.

The competition is normally between teams of four riders. However if for veterinary or other legitimate reasons one team member has to drop out at the last minute the competition may continue with only three members in the team. In such cases the team order must be such that there is a baton handover between each rider - it is not permitted for one rider to complete two consecutive rounds with no handover.

No additional time penalties will be added for refusals, but only three refusals are permitted. If a horse refuses a third time, that team member must be “rescued” by the next rider in the team. The rescue rider must collect the whip from the refusing rider, complete their course, and then continue on to complete their own course.

Similarly if a rider is dismounted, they must be rescued.

The race will be stopped if a dismounted rider is unable to hand on the whip, or if for any reason, in the opinion of the stewards, a health or safety issue would arise were the race to continue. If the race is stopped then the clock will be stopped. The race, and clock, will be restarted at the discretion of the stewards, with riders in their approximate positions at the time the race was stopped.

The race may include a ‘mug and pole’ obstacle. If the rider drops the mug it may be picked up by a steward but must be replaced on the first pole, and the rider must repeat the obstacle.

The race may include a ‘bridge’ or ‘walk’. The rider must walk at least one full stride (four foot steps) through the obstacle. If they fail to do so a steward will immediately indicate to the judge, and a 5 second time penalty will be added. [Note to competitors, this is a change to the rules from previous years]

A briefing meeting will be held on the morning of the competition, to include representatives of each competing hunt and stewards from the show.

TROPHIES AND SPECIAL PRIZEST122 The Stanley Luckhurst Memorial Trophy for the winning team in the Inter Hunt Team Relay.
