Prayer of the Jubilee Year of Mercy
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us
that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be
saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress
and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you
spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the word, its Lord risen and
glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they my feel compassion for those in ignorance
and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy my be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the
Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.

Once Upon A Time
Once Upon A Time
There is a story of a young woman who went to a park to eat her lunch. She spotted an old beggar who held only an empty paper bag. He looked like a
street person — unkempt clothes and emaciated. The woman was moved by the sight of him, so she sat next to him and offered him half of her sandwich.
To her amazement, upon making the kind offer the beggar was transformed. He suddenly appeared well dressed, clean-shaven and handsome.
In the empty paper bag there appeared three loves of bread. The man spoke. “Though I appeared as a beggar, I am a genie,
and I wish to reward your kindness with a gift. I have three loaves of bread and from them you may choose one, but choose wisely. A bite from one will give you unlimited success,
a bite from another will give you unlimited wealth, or, a bite from the third loaf will ensure undying love.”
The young woman pondered the choice. Success would mean she would always have a job, but unlimited wealth would mean she would never have to worry
about anything, she could take care of everyone she loved. As she thought of those she loved and how much they meant to her,
she made her decision. “I will take the bread of undying love,” she said.
The genie handed the woman the loaf of bread, but after she took a bite of it, the genie gave her the other two as well.
“You chose wisely. The bread of love bestows unlimited wealth and countless successes
upon those who choose it. Go now and share your gifts with the world.”

From the Pastor: The official logo of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy (see Prayer on page four) was designed by Jesuit Father Marko I. Rupnik. It presents the image of Christ taking on his shoulders the lost soul, expressing the Father’s mercy toward us. Christ incarnate touches humanity, and thus has the power to change lives. The motto Merciful Like the Father is taken from Luke 6:36.
