Dear Ensworth Community,

With the energy and

excitement that comes

with the start of a new

school year, it is hard not to

focus on the future and the

opportunities that lie ahead

for us as a school. At the

same time, I would be remiss

if I did not also look back at the 2014-15 school

year and the tremendous successes upon which we

will build in our continued pursuit of excellence.

Whether it was an array of student achievements in

the areas of academics, arts, athletics and service,

a glowing accreditation report from the Southern

Association of Independent Schools, or an impressive

college matriculation list, the 2014-15 school year

was truly outstanding. The year culminated with a

graduation ceremony in which we were treated to

four exceptional speeches given by members of the

Class of 2015. With poise and confidence, each of

these Seniors spoke of the transformative nature of

an Ensworth experience, an experience that would

not have been possible without your support.

I cannot thank you enough for the financial

contributions that you have made to Ensworth,

as your commitment has enriched each

student’s experience and strengthened us as a

school. Your investment in Ensworth has also

served as additional motivation in our efforts

to live our Mission in meaningful ways.

Thank you again for your support. It remains an

honor to serve a school community that values the

possibilities that exist for each and every student

and that is committed to the future of Ensworth.

When Betsy and I brought our family of five

small children “back” to Nashville in

1996, we knew we wanted them to go to Ensworth.

Betsy (Class of ’71) hoped that each of her children

could experience the joy of Ensworth. We enrolled

Elizabeth and Mary Lindsay in the third and

second grade, respectively. Jonathan, Philly and

Sally would follow, and yes, each is a Tiger for Life.

A lot has changed since 1996. The beautiful

Lower and Middle School with 557 students on

Ensworth Avenue has blossomed into one of the

nation’s premiere independent K through 12 co-

educational schools with over 1,100 students on

two campuses. But what is most important—and

what makes Ensworth unique—has remained

the same: a school committed to excellence;

a truly outstanding faculty; a rigorous and

well-rounded academic program; an exciting

offering of extracurricular activities; and an

absolutely unforgettable student experience.

Of course none of this would be possible without

the culture of community created by Ensworth

families and friends who make up what is often

referred to as “The Ensworth Family.” We are a

family that comes together to celebrate our school

traditions such as Graduation, Grandparents

Day, Field Day and Homecoming. We attend

puppet shows and pet shows, plays and biography

fairs, and we root for the Tigers on the athletic

fields day after day. We are a family that serves

alongside one another at events organized by the

Parent Association and by the school, and we are

a family that supports the school that has given

so much to us and to our individual families.

As I review the list of names included in this

annual report of giving, I am struck by just how

large our family has grown over the years. It

is truly remarkable. On behalf of the Board of

Trustees, I want to thank you—The Ensworth

Family—for continuing the tradition of

excellence through your support of the school.
