When MAF pilot Betty Greene took off from Los Angeles, California, in February of 1946 with two Wycliffe missionaries bound for Mexico, there was no way she could have imagined the scope of the legacy that flight would leave behind.

From that first MAF flight to today, with close to 30,000 takeoffs and landings each year, this ministry has expanded thanks to the faithful support of donors like you. In the pages of this Giving Catalog you will see some of your gifts in action. 2. FUND A CARAVAN FOR MOZAMBIQUE so MAF can bring hope to more people

You can help bring a Cessna Grand Caravan to the MAF program in Mozambique. �is nine-passenger plane uses Jet A fuel, which will relieve some of the burden and difficulty of obtaining expensive aviation gasoline. �e Caravan can also travel faster and farther than the C210 and C206 currently in service, meaning more people can be helped as MAF reaches remote areas of this impoverished country.

In the remote village of Balama, Mozambique,

long-time missionary Brenda Lange was

concerned. Her jack-of-all-trades and right-

hand man for Orphans Unlimited was not

responding to his malaria medications.

Eric Dry has served faithfully with Brenda for the

last 12 years as they met the needs of 2,500 orphans,

planted churches, dug and repaired water wells, and

ran a Christian radio station. His help was crucial to

this ministry in an area where dysentery and cholera

are the biggest stealers of life, leaving too many

children without parents.

Seeing Eric so weak, his health failing, reminded

Brenda of her own brushes with the illness—and her

own medical evacuations in past years. He was going

to need IV treatments, which meant he needed to get

to Nampula to catch a flight to South Africa. She knew

whom to call.

“MAF has been THE KEY in saving my life four times

in the past 25 years,” said Brenda. “We totally depend

on MAF to assist us in medical emergencies and for

bringing in much-needed supplies from other parts of

the country.”

Brenda raced her pickup over a gravel road for nearly

an hour to get Eric to the nearest airstrip. MAF arrived

minutes later to fly him to Nampula. �e 40-minute

flight replaced a grueling seven-hour drive over rough,

dirt roads.

“Eric is totally fine now. I can’t thank you enough for

the fast rescue and coordination that got him on the

flight that day,” said Brenda in a message to MAF.

Mission hospitals and remote clinics call upon MAF to transport doctors and nurses to and from facilities. Additionally, planeloads of medicine are transported to restock pharmacies at mission hospitals or to combat serious outbreaks.

Trevor Johnson was stunned as he listened

to the Korowai man. “We have come to learn

God’s Word,” the young man, named Salomo,

said to Trevor’s colleague, Paul Snider. “I want

to become an evangelist and take God’s Word

to my own people, and the other villages and

treehouses.”

“Did he just say that? Did he just say what I never would

have thought any Korowai would ever say—at least

for many years to come?” thought Trevor Johnson, a

missionary with HeartCry Missionary Society in Indonesia.

For years, supporters like you have enabled MAF to deliver

supplies and transport missionaries in to work among the

remote Korowai tribe in Papua, Indonesia. �e Korowai

people number around 4,000 and often live 25 meters

above the jungle floor, in elaborate treehouses.

Two years ago, MAF flew medical supplies to the Johnson

family as they worked to save a Korowai woman. Since this

incident, at least half a dozen others have been medically

evacuated as well, according to Trevor. �e Johnsons share

the Gospel among the Korowai and use their medical

background to treat those who are sick or injured. MAF

provides flight support for the Johnsons during emergencies

like this one and allows them and other missionaries to

travel back and forth more easily from the village.

“I can’t even begin to express to you how remote this village

is,” said MAF pilot John Dalton. “�ere’s no town nor

roads, nothing but walking paths and huts.”

�e Johnsons, many other missionaries, and local Papuan

church planters have worked for years to build relationships

with this tribe. It has been a long process, but hearing news

like Salomo’s means things are changing. �e people here

are not only accepting Jesus Christ, but they are beginning

to become passionate about sharing the Gospel with other

tribes in Papua.

“�ere is no greater joy than to see Korowai people telling

other Korowai people about Jesus,” said Trevor.

missionaries reach extremely isolated people, like the

Korowai, and make stories like this possible.

Local church leaders ask MAF to assist them with travel to remote churches so they can lead worship, train new leaders, and share resources like the “JESUS” film to those who have never heard of Christ’s love.
