Dear readers,A successful year 2011 for e.n.o. energy has come to an end. A year that heralded exciting challenges, not only for the company but for the whole wind energy sector. In this issue we review those developments for you.

The Ordinance on System Services by Wind Energy Turbines (SDLWindV) has been the subject of countless conversations. This regulation has been in force since 1st April 2011 and is binding for all wind turbines and wind farms. e.n.o. energy took the necessary measures in advance and adapted its own e.n.o. 82 and e.n.o. 92 turbines to the new standards. The Germanische Lloyd confirms the grid stability of the wind turbines with the EZE certificate (EZE = Erzeugungseinheit – generating unit). The wind farms Plauerhagen and Domnitz I & II have been awarded the EZA certificate by TÜV Süd (EZA = Erzeugungsanlage – power generating plants). Read how e.n.o. energy masters the certification process from page 4.

The sale of turnkey wind farms remains an important point for the company – with increasing significance. Public utility companies in particular are finding a reliable partner in e.n.o. energy. The reason: municipal energy suppliers value our complete, simple approach – from project planning to the manufacture of wind turbines to maintenance. What we're doing for public utilities across Germany and which wind farms we're offering for sale in 2012 you can learn about from page 8.

Beginning from page 11, you can also find out about the plans for the growth of the e.n.o. Group in Sweden and France, which we're pushing intensively.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue and wish you a successful year 2012 – both personally and professionally.

The team at e.n.o. energy

The certification of our own wind farmsThe Plauerhagen and Domnitz I & II wind farms recording to SDLWindV

The Ordinance on System Services by Wind Energy Turbines (SDLWindV) came into force in May 2009. The reason for the ordinance was the security and stability of the energy supply grid, which primarily has to be guaranteed by the utilities.

The utilities consider the grid stability to be at risk due to the growing number of renewable generating installations (EZA: e.g. wind farm, photovoltaic plant). The utilities were forced to conclude that a risk exists partly due to the lack of grid expan-sion and the lack of forward-thinking in the parameterisation of the generating units (EZE: e.g. individual wind turbine, photo-voltaic unit with power inverter), which is ordered by utilities, e.g. disconnection of generating units in the event of low over or under frequency.

The system services described in the SDLWindV represent a contribution to grid

stability on the part of the EZA. This legal ordinance defines parameters for the elec-trical behaviour of the EZA, specifically wind turbines, in the event of different network conditions (e.g. voltage drops, grid frequency deviations). The SDLWindV is binding for new turbines and installa-tions commissioned after 01st April 2011, while a time window for voluntary realisati-on of system service capability has been created for old and interim turbines.

On provision and confirmation of the system services, utilities of generating installations also receive the system ser-vice bonus (SDL bonus) in addition to the feed-in reimbursement in accordance with the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).

e.n.o. energy systems GmbH, as the man-ufacturer of the e.n.o. 82 and e.n.o. 92 wind turbines, has realised the system

service capability for all installed wind turbines with double-feed asynchronous generators within the legally stipulated periods. However, realisation did prove to be extremely difficult. This was because of the newly adopted, ill-conceived guide-lines from the Federation of German Windpower and other Renewable Ener-gies (FGW) and their partial non-conformi-ty in relation to SDLWindV, the Medium-Voltage Guideline of the German Federal Association of Energy and Water Manage-ment (BDEW) and the Transmission Code 2007. The new and laborious certification procedure also proved to be cost and time-intensive for us as a manufacturer. The following certification stages are re-quired for the SDL bonus:• Certification of the units – wind turbine

type e.n.o. 82• Certification/reports for the installa -

tions – Plauerhagen and Domnitz I & II wind farms

EZE certification

In preparation for EZE (generating unit) certification, e.n.o. had to modify the wind turbines with regard to hardware and soft-ware to meet the requirements of the guidelines. For e.n.o. 82 an additional in-verter from PCS (Power Converter Solu-tions GmbH) was installed and the control software was adapted. e.n.o. energy GmbH entered into difficult negotiations with the local utility in conjunction with the wind turbine modifications, in order to get approval for the voltage drop tests required by the guidelines.

The challenging voltage drop tests were successfully performed in cooperation with WINDTEST Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog GmbH (now GL Garrad Hassan Deutschland GmbH). Thanks to excellent preparation and the very robust electrical and mecha-nical components of the e.n.o. 82 wind

turbines, the voltage drop tests were com-pleted as planned after 10 weeks without any notable blackouts.

Providing confirmation of the regulating and control behaviour of the wind turbines is an additional stage in the certification process. Verification by the accredited measuring institute DEWI GmbH confirm-ed, for example, an above-average reac-tive power control range from the con-vertor unit. Tests on the regulating and control behaviour proved that all e.n.o. turbines are capable of operating without limitation in the extended frequency range, 47.5 Hz to 51.5 Hz, and the automatic active power reduction functions as stipulated in the event of a frequency increase.

An additional component in achieving EZE certification, and one of the biggest challenges, was the creation of a simulati-on model, providing a very precise illustra-tion of the real network error behaviour. The FGW's strict certification criteria were met thanks to a lot of work on the part

of e.n.o. energy and with the help of DIgSILENT GmbH.

The application for certification of e.n.o. 82 was sent to Germanische Lloyd Industrial

Services GmbH, as an accredited certifier, based on the results of the voltage drop tests, the report on the regulating and control behaviour and the simulation model. The small number of accredited

certifiers in Germany and the resulting time delay in processing applications is an issue here.

Conclusion

The passing of SDLWindV and the new guidelines on the provision of system services by wind energy turbines has imposed enormous challenges on the wind energy industry that are unique worldwide. e.n.o. energy systems GmbH's wind turbines have been re-

fined in line with the new requirements, ensuring they are contributing to the stability of the power grid. Wind turbine e.n.o. 82 has been awarded the EZE certificate and EZA reports have been issued for the Plauerhagen and Domnitz I & II wind farms. This success is partly due to the expert know-how of e.n.o. energy systems GmbH and the firm's

continued involvement in the boards of the FGW and the VDMA (Verband Deut-scher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau – German Engineering Federation). From the manufacturers' perspective simplifi-cation, reasonable transitional regulati-ons, greater transparency and a focus on basic technical aspects are desirable in the certification process

EZA certification

The appraisal/certification for installations (EZA – Plauerhagen and Domnitz I & II wind farms) took place on the basis of the existing EZE Certificate for e.n.o. 82. The electrical behaviour of the wind farm at the grid connection point (GCP) is relevant for EZA certification.

The interim turbines, each individual wind turbine in the two wind farms, were converted as described above in accord-ance with the EZE certificate. Additionally, a new grid protection relay and the e.n.o. gridmaster® were installed at the trans-mission stations at each grid connection point. e.n.o. gridmaster® is a wind farm management system developed by e.n.o. energy systems GmbH. This wind farm management system is based, like the wind turbine control, on the M1- control hardware from Bachmann electronic GmbH. All requirements of SDLWindV and utility specific conditions were met by the measures undertaken.

The certification centres of TÜV Süd, for the Domnitz I & II wind farms, and FGH (Forschungsgemeinschaft für elektrische Anlagen und Stromwirtschaft e. V.), for wind farm Plauerhagen, were assigned

with producing the EZA reports. The as-sessors undertook calculations based on the certified wind turbine simulation model, which enabled them to record and test the static and dynamic behaviour of the gene-rating installations at the GCP in accord-ance with the specifications in the FGW's Technical Guidelines. The assessors issued appropriate EZA reports for both wind farms based on the guideline-compliant behaviour.

In accordance with the Technical Guide-lines, a Certificate of Conformity is gene-rated on receipt of the EZA reports. This Certificate states that the applicable EZA (wind farm) was realised in accordance with the specifications in the report. The Certificate of Conformity and the EZA re-port were submitted to the local utilities for review within the specified period. Thus, the requirements for payment of the SDL bonus were met for all e.n.o. wind farms.

Plant and type-specific certificates that set out the electrical characteristics of the generating unit (wind turbine) and the generating installation (wind farm) are required before wind power plants can be connected to the German power grid. Basic requirements are reviewed such as short-circuit strength, contin u-ous current-carrying capacity, active and reactive power provision and the regulation thereof. In addition, the elec-tric generator`s behaviour in the event of a network failure – for example, a voltage drop – has to be reasonable.

New plants must play an active role in maintaining the stability of the voltage and frequency of the grid. This applies to medium-voltage and high-voltage grids and also to the supergrid. Certifi-cation is effected on the basis of the Ordinance on System Services by Wind Energy Plants (SDLWindV). The BDEW Guideline (German Federal Association of Energy and Water Management) is also relevant for connection to the me-dium-voltage grid, while the so-called TransmissionCode 2007 (network and system rules of the German transmis-sion system operators) is relevant for connection to the high-voltage grid and the supergrid.

The central documents on grid integra-tion are the so-called EZE or EZA cer-tificate and the EZA reports. They are also required if the operator wants to receive feed-in reimbursement in ac-cordance with the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). This also

applies to the system service bonus in accordance with SDLWindV. This Ordin-ance regulates in particular the require-ments on production management and the behaviour of a wind power plant in the event of network failures. A bonus of 0.5 cents per kilowatt hour is possible if the requirements are met.

The unit certificate

The unit certificate certifies in accord-ance with SDLWindV that a wind power plant meets the EEG provisions pertaining to grid connection charac-teristics. A unit certificate can only be issued on compliance with all technical requirements from the relevant guide-lines. The FGW Technical Guidelines Part 8 form the basis for testing. This requires simulation of the electrical characteristics of generating units (EZE) and plants (EZA) using computer-aided models. These are also validated on the basis of the guidelines.

As the first step towards possible cer-tification the TÜV SÜD experts review the submitted certification documents for completeness and plausibility. The electrical characteristics are then evalu-ated in accordance with the technical requirements, such as active power output, reactive power provision or circuit feedback. The results are sum-marised in a report. The EZE model is then validated for network calculations using special software. This includes stages such as the creation of a valid-ation plan and static load flow calcula-

The plant certificate

A so-called plant certificate has to be created based on the unit certificates and taking the existing electrotechnical components of the wind farm into ac-count. This is also effected in stages. This not only requires certificates on the specific generating units, but also models validated as executable. The process here also begins with a review of the submitted documents – included in the planning. Are these complete and plausible?

This relates especially to:• Data surveys (wind farm operator/

distribution system operator)• The project-specific unit certificate

and calculation model• An overview of the wind farm

(single line diagram)• The connection diagrams for the

medium-voltage plants• The protection concept

("decoupling protection")• Overview of the wind farm control• The regulatory concept for reactive

and active power provision• Certificates and conformity declar-

ations for operating resources• Technical data on cabling, trans-

formers and operating resources (switchboard plants, controller or the dynamic reactive power compen-sation)

The requirements stipulated by the technical guidelines and the distribution system operator are then coordinated in detail with the applicant and the manufacturers of the generating units and the components. This is followed by the calculations required by FGW Technical Guideline Part 8. A plant model is also created here for the wind farm. The model also includes the wind farm's operating resources and the main power supply at the grid`s point of common coupling. This facilitates simul ation of the static and dynamic behaviour in accordance with FGW and BDEW guidelines.

A conformity report is created based on detailed calculations and reviews, which

summarises the technical characteris-tics of the generating plant. After instal-lation of the wind farm, each plant must be appraised once again to ensure that the plant certificate and conformity declaration concur. To do this, the en-gineers reappraise the circuit docu-ments, commissioning documents and protection test logs, as well as the plant on site. The basic regulatory functions are randomly tested in cooperation with the network operator.

Conclusion and recommendation

Certification of a wind power plant's grid compatibility is an extensive and highly complex process. The reason for this is the array of different guidelines and re-

TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH is part of TÜV SÜD AG and offers engineering, testing and consulting services for manufacturers and op-erators of plants, buildings and infra-structure facilities. The around 2,400 employees also consult on planning and construction and support their clients on optimising and safeguard-ing trouble-free operation, as well as decommissioning and waste dis-posal.

For manufacturers and operators of wind power plants TÜV SÜD offers site evaluations, project and type certification both on and offshore in Germany and abroad. The range of services was recently expanded with certification of grid compatibility for power generation units and plants. DAkkS (German Accreditation Body)

has authorised TÜV SÜD as a certifi-cation body for grid compatibility to test power generating plants and units. The international service pro-vider has also been recommended as a certification body by the Federation of German Windpower and other Re-newable Energies (FGW).

The TÜV SÜD teams of experts have many years' experience and interdis-ciplinary engineering know-how and an outstanding knowledge of all rele-vant guidelines and standards. The high standard of the economic and ecological realisation of projects, neu-trality and objectivity are the reason for the top-class international reputa-tion, recognition and acceptance of TÜV SÜD expertise. www.tuev-sued.de/is

quirements. If the generating unit or plant conforms to the technical guide-lines, then a unit or plant certificate is issued.

TÜV SÜD experts recommend detailed surveys and designs to clarify grid com-patibility early on. To achieve this the manufacturers of the wind power plants have to cooperate closely with appoint-ed third-party firms and the accredited test lab. It is important that the details in the surveys are consistent to ensure reliable compliance with all deadlines. Practical experience shows: a well-do-cumented and easy-to-use simulation model for the behaviour of the wind power plant in the electrical grid sub-stantially accelerates the testing and certification process.

Tendere.n.o. energy announces Tender 2012

e.n.o. energy GmbH has been working successfully in wind farm sales for many years. The client base includes national and international financial investors and investment funds, privately run medium-sized companies, such as in the real estate business, private individuals and consolidated community firms, such as public companies. A substantial demand is clearly apparent – and as a result, e.n.o. energy is currently working through the sales process with several public companies/utility groups.

A new Tender 2012 was issued to a se-lected group of investors in November 2011, which comprises a total of 5 wind farms with over 100 MW. This third e.n.o. tender follows on, for example, from the tender comprising 5 wind farms in 2009 and the company is hoping for compar able sales success. e.n.o.energy

After successful conversion of the ex-isting installations, e.n.o. energy also re viewed the profitability of converting the interim turbines in line with the Ordinance on System Services by Wind Energy Turbines (SDLWindV), namely those installations commis-sioned between 31st December 2008 and 1st April 2011, in order to receive the bonus (SDL bonus). In total, the decision was made to exploit the eco -nomic advantage for 36 wind energy

turbines that are owned or managed by e.n.o. energy.

Management's task in this context was to undertake coordination of the re-quired measures, such as conversion of the generating installation, realisation of wind farm control, parameterisation of protection devices at the grid connec-tion point, retrofitting decoupling protec-tion / Q-U protection and expansion of communication connections. Coordina-

tion was effected in close cooperation with the manufacturers, the operators, the consultants and the electricity com-panies. The installation reports and con-formity declarations for all the turbines being converted were submitted to the applicable network operators on time by 30th September 2011, in order to com-ply with the legal requirements of the SDL bonus, making a substantial contri-bution to the improvement of grid stability. e.n.o.energy

Direct saleNew opportunities for green electricity

Investment in renewable energies is an investment in the future of our energy supplies. Companies or private individuals investing in wind energy or biomass have to consider a number of options how they can sell the electricity their plants generate.

The German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) gives investors the security of long-term reliable yields. One option of-fered by the EEG is direct sale as an alter-native to the familiar, classic remuneration of the EEG Apportionment scheme. Direct sale facilitates higher revenues and uses power from renewable sources in line with the market. This means that green electricity is being sold directly on the free energy market. In addition to the revenue, the producer also receives a so-called market premium from the state, which may make the total profit more than the EEG compensation, if the energy is traded competently.

The energy company MVV Energie (Mannheim) has a profound expertise in energy trading and direct marketing. This

year alone, MVV Energie has marketed over 800 GWh of green energy directly from German EEG plants; this includes companies that are market leaders in Germany. At the same time, as a listed company MVV Energie also offers its customers a high level of financial reli-ability and security. e.n.o. energy also benefits from this, as it has tasked MVV Energie with direct sale of the electricity produced by its wind power plants.

In addition to direct sales, MVV Energie also offers other options for bringing green electricity to the market. The inte-gration of generating installations in MVV Energie's balancing energy pool with marketing of minute reserve capacity is one of those options, as are individual delivery concepts for local authorities.

In the generation of green energy MVV Energie strategically focusses on wind onshore and biomass power plants. The Group entered the market for wind power on land in 2010 with the purchase of a wind farm in Plauerhagen, project-man-aged by e.n.o. energy. MVVEnergie

MVV Energie

Since its IPO on the stock market in 1999, MVV Energie AG has developed into one of the leading energy compa-nies in Germany with the growth-orient-ed cooperation of local and regional interests. With its business fields of electricity, heat, natural gas, water, ener-gy services, and environment, the Group has a broad business portfolio across the whole energy industry value chain. With the claim "energizing the future", MVV Energie delivers sustainability, effi-ciency and regionality. In the 2010/2011 financial year the company achieved a turnover of 3.6 billion euros with around 6,000 employees and distributed a total of around 12 TWh of electricity to end consumers.

Municipal utility alliance acquires two attractive e.n.o. wind farms

Two years after commissioning the ope-rating wind farm companies Domnitz I and II in Saxony-Anhalt have found new owners. Just two months of due diligence and contract negotiations were necessary until closing the deal. On 1st June 2011, 24 managing directors of municipal utili-ties, all of them partners of Energieallianz Bayern, and Karsten Porm, the Managing Director of e.n.o. energy GmbH, signed the purchase agreement at the Domberg in Freising, Bavaria.

"This result was not just an economic success. The efficient closing also shows that we are well-matched", says Joachim Martini, Managing Director of Energiealli-

Partner

anz Bayern GmbH & Co. KG, with firm conviction. He prepared the deal for the purchaser consortium together with his colleague, Mr Achim Thiel. Thiel: "We have committed ourselves to the goal of realising 100 MW of electricity generation capacity from onshore wind turbines in the next four years. Domnitz is an impor-tant milestone on this road."

The six turbines are situated next to the A 14 motorway, approx. 30 km north-west of Halle an der Saale. With a hub height of 100 metres and a capacity of 12 MW in total they produce approx. 24 million kWh of electricity. This is enough to supply around 8,000 homes with sustainable power. "We deliberately focus on regional

diversification and don't want to establish turbines only in Bavaria", says Joachim Martini, explaining why the mostly Ba-varian firms of the Energieallianz have invested in Central Germany.

A good start for further cooperation between e.n.o. energy and the consortium

For Karsten Porm the alliance is also an interesting partner for other projects. "We have learnt to appreciate Energiealli-anz as a reliable partner and look forward to other joint projects. It suits us that Ener-gieallianz is not only aiming to acquire existing projects, but also wants to get engaged in earlier steps of the develop-ment process."

The e.n.o. Group's full service and man-agement concept was a significant factor in the purchase decision. First good ex-perience from operation have now been gathered. Achim Thiel is looking to the future: "This is important for long-term close cooperation".JoachimMartini–EnergieAllianzBayern e.n.o. 82

On 22nd August 2011 five Enercon E-70 starts in operating officially in Campigny, Normandy with a hub height of 85 metres and a nominal output of 2 MW.

This had been preceded by many years of planning – "Campigny" is the first project realised from the pipeline of the French planning company Energie Eolienne France SAS (EEF). EEF has been a subsidiary of e.n.o. energy GmbH since autumn 2008.

The construction works starts under diffi-cult weather conditions at the beginning of November 2010 on the existing municipal road and the crane and storage areas. The whole construction site came to rest from December 2010 to January 2011 because of the weather – there was snow chaos in Normandy, too. Soil analyses had been performed in sum-mer 2010, giving the result that the stability of the subsurface had to be improved with so-called vibrated stone columns to ensure the structural integrity of the turbines. The necessary concrete columns were cast and delivered to the site by the middle of Fe-bruary, before the foundation pit could be fully excavated and the French company Fondeol could begin to install the reinforce-ments in the middle of March.

The foundation for the first turbine was poured at the start of April 2011. Two large, long-armed concrete pumps and ideal weather ensured that the 450 m3 concrete was processed cleanly. All five required foundations were completed within 10 days.

The transformer station was erected by Enercon at the end of May; the final work on the land improvement and the crane area was performed in coordination with Enercon. The 750-tonne crane was then brought to the site at the start of June and installed at the location for turbine 1. The first heavy load transports arrived at the site from Rouen from 5th June onwards

without any problems. The individual tur-bine components made the journey from Germany by ship.

The 5 wind turbines had been assembled by the end of July; countless curious on-

lookers, particularly the inhabitants of Cam-pigny and the neighbouring communities, followed the construction work with in-terest. The often windy and rainy weather conditions were the reason that the fitters were not able to progress as quickly as originally planned.

Lars Biebel, authorised representative of e.n.o. energy, together with representa-tives of our client DIF France, which has acquired the turnkey wind farm from e.n.o. energy, visited the site shortly before the final turbine was erected in the middle of July.

The five turbines have been supplying clea-ner wind power to the French public grid since the farm was commissioned. The community is planning an official inaugurati-on celebration for spring 2012, to which the inhabitants and politicians of the neigh-bouring areas are cordially invited. e.n.o.energy

in the Swedish wind energy industry and a portfolio of more than 100 developed and constructed wind energy turbines. Building permits for more than three projects were submitted to the relevant authorities at the end of 2011 for the

The rapidly growing wind energy market in Sweden was the reason for the e.n.o. energy Group's decision to focus the company on strategic market entry in 2008. To this end, the first important contacts were established, and the mar-ket opportunities and local conditions of the Swedish wind energy industry were analysed. Following implementation of a local presence, the first milestone was laid in 2010 with the founding of the joint venture Hansa Vind AB with head-quarter in Anderstorp, in which e.n.o. energy has an equal 50 % share with an experienced Swedish project developer. Together with the experienced project developer and future joint venture part-ner H2 Vind AB, represented by Mats Envall and Anders Johansson, e.n.o. energy will develop, finance, construct, manage and sell turnkey wind energy projects in future, predominantly in southern Sweden. The expertise of the partner, particular that of Mats Envall, is the result of over 10 years' experience

first projects. Preliminary talks have been held with potential investors, inclu-ding with the energy supplier Göteborg Energi AB, the fourth largest energy supplier in Sweden.

The Swedish company e.n.o. energy Sweden AB was founded in autumn 2011 as a 100-% subsidiary of e.n.o. energy GmbH. We are currently looking for experienced sales and project deve-lopment staff to set up the organisation. The subsidiary will manage further planning joint ventures and the active turbine sales.

The project rights to the wind farm Norra Bohult have been acquired to generate the first experiences of project realisa-tion. This wind farm is to be constructed in 2012 with three e.n.o. 92 wind turbines with a hub height of 103 m. Financing for the project is currently being discussed with bank partners. e.n.o.energy

e.n.o. energy is a required partner on many German projects. There are syner-gy effects for all participants, especially because of the extensive project pipeline arising from the firm's own project plan-ning, the extensive networks to banks and investors, and a wind turbine that leads the field in terms of technology.

Using the example of wind farm expan-sions at sites in Brandenburg and Thuringia:• e.n.o. energy and our partner NOTUS

energy GmbH are working together here on the approval planning for the e.n.o. 92 turbine which stands out

especially for these projects due to its particularly low turbulence sensitivity and its optimum cost-effectiveness.

Construction work has begun on three e.n.o. 82 turbines in Groß Trebbow, Mecklenburg – construction on the foundations is complete; the turbines will be erected in the week of 19th Novem-ber and this is another excellent example of successful cooperation:• The project was planned and deve-

loped by Plan 8 GmbH from Eckern-förde. The company has been working for over 20 years on project develop-ment, realisation and operation of wind farms. PLAN 8 GmbH has previously worked on projects in Germany to construct over 120 wind farms. Count-

less further projects are in progress for the next few years – including some in cooperation with e.n.o. energy.

Growth takes money

the growth in international business, the company has recently established a re-lationship with an Austrian bank and strategically expanded its existing relati-onship with a Franco-German bank. More banks will get involved in project financing in 2012 given that it is now more than three years since construction of the prototype e.n.o. 82, and the previ-ously erected wind turbines now have a proven track record. Thus, e.n.o. energy is extremely well-established in this field, which will also ensure the future growth of the e.n.o. energy Group.

The firm also has a profitable mix of tra-ditional and modern forms of financing with regard to corporate financing. For-ward-looking action and the search for new financing routes enable the firm to expand its scope and to reach different areas of the market. For example, the e.n.o. Group received a guarantee from the German federal state of Mecklen-burg-Western Pomerania in September 2011 as collateral for a line of capital cre-dit granted by a commercial bank. This credit in the amount of EUR 12.5 million can mainly be used by e.n.o. energy for interim financing of turbine components. Moreover, close cooperation with institu-tional and private investors, banks, sup-pliers and project developers in the wind industry will generate further opportuni-ties for growth in future. To date, e.n.o. energy GmbH has raised an eight-figure

sum from various creditors, by issuing bonus shares and by exploiting the available public funds. Thanks to the comfortable EBIT percentage the e.n.o. Group has achieved over the years, sometimes in the double-figure range, the company is easily able to manage these commitments. Thanks to the finan-cial scope afforded by the corporate financing, additional sources of income continually develop for e.n.o. energy.

The company is currently in the place-ment phase of a corporate bond. Inves-tors of varying size can still subscribe to the bond up to July 2012. It is a five-year bond with an annual fixed interest rate of 7.375 %. The revenue from the bond will finance further corporate growth. The financial requirements are due to the fact that 20 % of financing for wind power projects must come from equity capital. The funds raised by the bond issue will be used for the equity capital share of new projects. Additional mezzanine capital in the form of bonus shares will support further corporate growth along-side the bond. Around 60 % of borrow-ed funds are used to finance new pro-jects alone. The remaining funds will strengthen the areas of design, research and property acquisition. This includes both the company's planned expansion of in-house production depth and the development of new wind turbines. e.n.o.energy

The bankability of e.n.o. energy

Alongside the right decisions, a company needs drive and endurance in significant quantities, as well as financial resources, to keep growing consistently in the right direction. e.n.o. energy GmbH consistent growth requires continuous generation of new financial resources and alternatives. Since 2008, in an organisational and financial show of strength the company has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of the first in-house wind turbine and entered new markets. In fu-ture, the company's own value chain will be consistently strengthened, the pro-duct range will be increased and, thus, the need for financing will also be higher.

The specialists in the German banking area have long been partners of e.n.o. energy GmbH refering in project finan-cing. Deutsche Kreditbank AG, Ostsee-sparkasse Rostock, NORD/LB, Umwelt-bank, and LBBW are already financing projects with e.n.o. wind turbines. The e.n.o. 82 and 92, but also the service concept, insurability and production flows, have been intensively examined in comprehensive due diligence processes over the last four years and have been assessed as a sound financial risk. The fact that e.n.o. energy has already sold wind farm projects to various public utili-ty companies is also seen as a sign of approval by investors.

As the bankability of e.n.o. turbines also represents a key to the competitiveness of e.n.o. energy, active control of these business relationships is an important management role. Continual care for relationships enables the e.n.o. Group to achieve positive bank responses to act flexibly within the market. With the future refinement of the product portfolio, pre-viously gathered experience and the proven excellent quality of the previous wind turbines will facilitate rapid financ-ing, including for new types of turbine and will ensure e.n.o. stays ahead of the competition. Innovative ways –

e.n.o. energy systems GmbH is planning to develop a new turbine platform in the 3MW sector for 2012 / 2013. This plat-form is expected to have two rotor dia-meters for optimized production for diffe-rent sites.

The tried and tested design philosophy of e.n.o. energy systems GmbH will be continued in the turbine and the compa-ny is using reliable, maintenance-free concepts and components.

In particular, this includes use of a full power converter concept combined with a slip ring-free, electrically excited syn-chronous generator and a tried and

tested planetary gear box. Special concepts are also being developed that will enable the large components to be replaced without an external crane as well.

While e.n.o. energy limited itself to ex-panding know-how in electrics in the design of the e.n.o. 92 with a control system developed in-house and an in-house converter, the company is break-ing new ground in aerodynamics with the 3MW platform.

The focus here is on developing aerody-namically optimised rotor blades with profiles developed by e.n.o., which en-

able the turbines to produce maximum yields even in areas subject to high tur-bulence, such as forests or repowering projects.

The platform will also be designed for total heights of 180 and 200 m so that the turbines can be used in low wind areas as well in future.

This concept, paired with outstanding acoustic features and a future-proof grid feed-in concept make the new, future turbine platform from e.n.o. energy sys-tems GmbH an ideal and interesting inland machine. e.n.o.energy

Update on e.n.o. technologyA lot has happened since the last issue of e.n.o. mag; read on for a short update on e.n.o. technology.

At Kirch Mulsow the prototypes for the e.n.o. 92 were connected to the grid in mid-2010 and the same was done for the electrically modified e.n.o. 82 at the end of 2010. Both turbines now have the for-ward-looking generator system, compri-sing a slip ring-free, separately excited synchronous machine paired with a full power converter. This concept combined with the control and regulating techno-logy developed in-house has now been proving its performance capability for more than a year of live operation.

This time was also used to perform noise measurements on the prototypes in Kirch Mulsow. In this context, it appears that the refinement of the e.n.o. 82 re-presents significant progress, including with regard to measurable noise emissi-ons. The following table shows that the e.n.o. 82 can also prove its worth at noise-sensitive locations.

Turbine type/ Nominal output Sound- Operating mode in kW power level at 95 % of the nominal output

e.n.o. 82 / Mode 0 2,050 103.6 dB(A)

e.n.o. 82 / Mode 2 1,500 100.8 dB(A)

e.n.o. 82 / Mode 3 1,300 99.2 dB(A)

Thanks to the hub heights that are now available of 58.6, 80, 101 and 108 me-tres, the turbine is tailor-made for loca-tions with overall heights of 100, 125 and 150 metres.

Noise emission testing on the e.n.o. 92 also returned outstanding results. For example, in normal operation with a no-minal output of 2,200 kW, the e.n.o. 92 achieves a low sound power level of 102.4 dB(A) at 95 % of the nominal out-put, which exceeds the calculated esti-mates. Evaluations of the noise testing on the e.n.o. 92 are available for German and international use.

The type approval for e.n.o. 92 with a hub height of 103 metres was issued in

summer 2011 based on the wind turbine guidelines of the German Institute for Civil Engineering (DIBt). The type appro-val for the 123-metre hub height version of the turbine will be issued shortly, whereby the scope of testing with regard to structural engineering in the approval process is also reduced here.

Development of the e.n.o. gridmaster® represents another milestone on the road to the future. This facilitates technical control and regulating functions for the wind farm at the grid connection point, in accordance with the applicable Grid Code. The flexible e.n.o. gridmaster® concept has already been proving its worth in the SDLWindV-certified e.n.o. projects at Domnitz and Plauerhagen.
