Fast Track Projectsan increasing necessity with tight client and industry schedules
concurrent engineering - successive activities are
overlapped/compressed to reduce project duration
limited to design activities
Our paper aims to present a similar process for
scheduling construction phases of a current project by
implementing a dependency structure matrix (DSM)
Importance of Information Flow and Dependenciesfast-track method requires overlap between pairs of activities
amount, timing and nature of information flow determines degree of
overlap
process starts by identifying activities that can be overlapped - then
qualifying and quantifying this dependencyKhoueiry Y, Srour I, Yassine A, (2013)Srour I, Abdul-Malak MA, Yassine A, Ramadan M (2013).

Introduction
INTRODUCTION Overview of DSM Technique
Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM)
representation tool that lists activities, corresponding information
exchange & their dependency/weight patterns
Decision makers schedule works to streamline theactivities based on an optimal flow of information,
consequently, reducing timeApplication of DSM in the Design Phase of a Construction Projectinitially intended for manufacturing
implementing fast-tracking approach in construction using a matrix framework - specifically the DSM technique
remarkably reduce project duration and costs
YET mainly apply to design phases of construction projects
fall short of treating actual construction phases

Planing the Steps
Concrete Works Schedule:
A-Foundations:
Concrete Works in foundation should start on 10
July 2012 and finished on the first of January
2013 in the whole surface of this MEGA
project.

Planing the Steps
Concrete Works Schedule:
Concrete Works in second and first basement
are divided into five zones A , B , C , D and E

Planing the Steps
Concrete Works Schedule:
B-Basement 2:
For Zone A , B and E concrete works will start on
five January 2013 to be finished in ten
February as for zone C and D to be finished in
thirty February.

Planing the Steps
Concrete Works Schedule:
C-Basement 1:
On 11 of February man power should start
working on pouring slab, columns, and walls
concrete for zone A , B and E to be finished in
the first of march.
Because concrete works in zone C and D aremore sophisticated and include difficult details
(example Water tank), they will not be able to
finish all these works before 15 April 2013.

Finishing work schedule :
A-Basement 2&1
As Concrete works , Finishing works are also
divided into these five zones.
After finishing all concrete works in Basement
1&2 , starting block and plaster work is
necessary so around 10 May finishing workshould be started to be finished in the two
basement around end of June 2013.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Concrete works:
The concrete works of zone A , B and E were
done.
As for zone C and D concrete works in
basement 2 were done , in basement 1 both
zone D and zone C are done except for the
Water Tank .Also Block and Plaster work are 95% done in
these five zones that represent 60% of the
MEA training center project.

RECOMENDATION
Concrete works:
The concrete works of zone A , B and E where
done before its planned completion dates.
Due to that , they could start finishing works
earlier than the planned dates.
On the other hand the concrete works related to
the water tank were delayed due to thecomplexity of its execution(especially its
design due to the presence of a big dom
above).
