AllergicContactDermatitis Allergiccontactdermatitis(ACD)isan
inflammatoryskindiseasethatiscausedbycontactallergens.
ThedamagetotheskinthatresultsinskineczemaiscausedbyTcellswhichrecognizethesecontactallergenswhenpresentedonskincellsandexertcytotoxiceffectsontheseskincells.
Contactallergenscanbeorganicchemicalsormetalionssuchasnickel.
Incontrasttoirritantswhicharechemicalsthathavedirecttoxiceffectsontheskinandcauseirritantcontactdermatitis(ICD),contactallergensmustinteractwithproteinsinordertoactivatetheimmunesystem.Theactivationoftheinnateimmunesystemisrequiredforsensitizationtocontactallergens.
