During his five-day trip, he is due to meet

figures including the UK immigration ministerMark Harper to discuss economic opportunities

for British workers. Canada wants to attract

young skilled migrants due to its ageing

workforce and unfilled positions in areas such

as in IT, engineering, welding and video games

    programming.

Meanwhile, Australia is equally determined tocompete for skilled migrants. A spokesman for

    Australias Department of Immigration and

Citizenship said the Australian lifestyle and

strong economy continued to be major draws.

He highlighted that Australia is ranked second

on the human development index, compared

with Canadas sixth place, and has the lowestunemployment rate for migrants of any OECD

The prime minister said a string of recent spacefailures "just should not be". He earlier said the

Medvedev sacked a number of senior space

Speaking Monday, Medvedev said that entire

2 More Somali Journalists Killed, Total Up

    to 15 This Year

One Somali journalist was shot dead by

gunmen on Friday while a second journalist

was beheaded and his body dumped in the

street, officials and residents said, two attacks

that bring the number of Somali journalists

    killed this year to 15.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for thelatest killings, but the deaths fit into a year-

long pattern of targeted attacks against Somali

journalists. Reporters must watch for attacks

from militants and criminals and know that

such deaths have been met with judicial

inaction in a capital city with crippled

    government institutions.

Residents in an area just north of Mogadishu

discovered the headless dead body of

    Abdirahman Mohamed Ali, a 26-year-old

sports writer with his hands tied behind his

back on Thursday. His body also showed signsof torture. No previous killing of a journalist

has involved a beheading, and the method of

death could be an indication that al-Qaida-

    linked militants from al-Shabab were

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Ahmed

Abdulahi Fanah, a 32-year-old reporter who

was working for the Yemeni news agency, the

Somali journalists union said Friday. He was

shot and killed as he walked out of his home

on the way to work, it said.

The killings have made going to work a life-

and-death decision for Somali journalists. One

female television journalist said she wont risk

    her life any longer..

I have decided to leave the country because

the time we expected would bring peace and

liberty has turned into the worst we have ever

seen, Sahra Abdulahi Isse said. The death

threats have increased. ... I will be leaving forUganda for my own safety.

Most of the 15 deaths appear to have been

targeted killings, though last week three

journalists were killed when a suicide bomber

Water particles found on surface of the

    moon

The moon's surface is covered with glassygrains of soil containing significant amounts of

water that could sustain human life, a new

    study has found.

Researchers analysed samples of soil collected

from the Moon by the Apollo missions and

found it contained water in the form ofcompounds called hydroxyls (HO).

The water was most likely formed on the

surface of the Moon by the constant stream of

charged particles ejected from the Sun known

as "solar wind", the scientists said.

The traditional view that the Moon was

entirely dry has been proven incorrect in recent

years, with growing evidence that icy drops of

water can be found on its surface.

In 2009, a Nasa satellite slammed into a craterand threw up a plume which scientists found

contained an unexpectedly high amount of ice,

and small amounts of water have also been

found in powder and rock in the Moon's outer

    layer.

But although the discoveries have proven the

existence of water, the problem which has

continued to baffle scientists is where it came

    from.

Now a new paper by researchers from the

University of Tennessee suggests the water

was produced on the Moon's surface rather

than being delivered there by acomet or other

    piece of space debris.

Solar wind is a flow of particles continually

flowing away from the Sun. The Earth's

magnetic field deflects them away from our

planet, but the Moon has no such protection.

Researchers analysed the soil samples and

found that they had similar chemical properties

to charged hydrogen particles found in the

    solar wind.

The findings suggest the hydrogen was

brought to the surface of the Moon in the solar

wind, and then combined with oxygen to form

hydroxyls, compounds similar to water whichcontain one hydrogen and one oxygen atom.

These were then stored in the soil.

Hacker finds Chrome vulnerability, closesin on $60K prize

It appears the hacker known as "Pinkie Pie"produced the first Chrome vulnerability at the

Hack In the Box conference on Wednesday,

just ahead of the deadline for the competition

    this afternoon.

Google security officials said they are in the

process ofverifying the vulnerability, which if

valid, will net Pinkie Pie $60,000, the topreward for the second Pwnium competition

held this year. The reward goes to someone

who creates a full Chrome exploit using bugs

    only in Chrome itself.

Google has allotted a total of $2 million in

reward money for the second round of

Pwnium, the first of which was held in March

at the CanSecWest security conference in

    Vancouver, British Columbia.

Pinkie Pie is well known for his skills. He

secured $60,000 in the first Pwnium

    competition for stringing together six

vulnerabilities in order to break out ofChrome's sandbox, which is a software

Pinkie Pie is apparently not at Hack in the Box

this week. Instead, a colleague submitted his

entry, which was hosted on Google's

infrastructure. Google quickly moves to patch

problems found with its browser via an auto-

    update mechanism.

Google is offering such rich rewards for

finding vulnerabilities because it has becomeharder to exploit the browser. It also takes

more time to find those vulnerabilities, so

Google has allowed security gurus to work on

    their exploits for two months.

The final results will be announced lateThursday afternoon near the end of the

    conference.

appropriately) and marvel at the architectural

beauty of the Blue Mosque. Its a scene that

typifies the essence of Istanbul, a grand city

which straddles both sides of the Bosphorus

River which means it literally sits in both Asia

    and Europe.

Around 98% of the population is Muslim, and

this provides a paradox at street level. Its a

secular country, although most its inhabitants

follow their religious beliefs - some of the men

wear traditional headgear and grow their

    beards and women wrap traditional

headscarves around them. But that doesntdetract from the fact that Istanbul is a modern

city - men and women walk the streets in

    European-style clothing and theres an

abundance of high fashion shops, pavement

cafs and trendy bars. The biggest fast food

chain is Burger King and around Ramadan if

offers a seasonal Sultans Menu which

consists of a burger, fries, soft drink, tea,

baklava pastry and a fresh date, the fruit that

Mohammed is said to have eaten to break his

    fast.

My Son Cham Ruins, Hoi An

Mankind builds marvelous and imagination-defying cities

and structures, then erases them again as the centuries,

along with the fickle loyalty of scholars, priests, kings, and

common people render them either obsolete or irrelevant.

The ruins of My Son in Vietnam, not far from Da Nang

and Hoi An, fall into this category.

My Son was once an impressive place, a holy valley of

impressive Hindu temples and burial grounds of the

royalty of the Champa people. My Son was the

Vietnamese equivalent of places like Cambodia's Angkor

Wat and Egypt's Valley of the Kings. In its heyday, My

Son included over seventy temples, along with a number ofmonuments with inscriptions in both Sanskrit, the holy

language of ancient India, and Cham. In 1999, UNESCO

named My Son a World Heritage Site

    History of My Son

The My Son site dates back to the fourth century AD,

when the Champa king, Bhadravarman, erected the first

temple there. He named it Bhadresvara, which was a

combination of his own name and the Hindu god Ishvara,

another name for Shiva. On the temple, the king added a

request for subsequent generations to respect the temple

and not destroy it. For many centuries, his request seemed

to work; for generations after Bhadravarman's death, the

My Son site was the hub of spiritual activity for the

Champa people. Even when the original temple was

destroyed in a fire two hundred years later, a later king

made sure to rebuild it. The temple lasted in one form or

another until it was obliterated during the Vietnam War.

In the fourteenth century, the Champa were conquered by the

Viet people, for whom the modern country is named. The

disappearance of the Champa also meant the gradual

dissolution of the My Son site, which the jungle slowly

started to reclaim. Ignored and largely forgotten, My Son

was discovered again at the turn of the twentieth century by aFrench scholar.

In the 1930s, the French began to restore the My Son

temples. The French scholars and archaeologists were able

to identify a total of seventy-one temples, with various

groupings of temples belonging to different eras of

    development of the Cham kingdom.

    My Son Today

Unfortunately for both visitors and world history, much of

what remained of My Son in the twentieth century was

bombed out of existence by American B-52 bombers

during the American Vietnam War. The temples that had

been so lovingly restored by French archeologists and local

people were quickly devastated by the American bombs. In

fact, local people are still wary of the area surrounding the

My Son ruins because of the still unexploded bombs and

    land mines.

Nevertheless, My Son is still one of Vietnam's most

important historic sites. Visitors with any interest in

Southeast Asia's history will enjoy the bus trip from Da

Nang or Hoi An to the ruins. Most tours of the My Son

ruins range in price from 30 to 47, depending upon the

size of the group and the city of origin.

Polar bear makes 74 km Arctic swim

Scientists have tracked a tagged polar bearswimming at least 74 kilometres in just oneday - and maybe up to 100 kilometres -providing the first conclusive proof the bearscan cover such giant distances in the water.

Bears often roam thousands of kilometres in ayear in search of prey such as seals and there

has often been anecdotal evidence ofprodigious ursine swims, with bears turning upon remote islands or across wide bays.

Previously there had been doubts aboutwhether the bears had walked over ice part ofthe way or hitched a ride on an iceberg.

"What's new this time is that we have datashowing how long the bear was in the water,"

Jon Aars, a researcher at the Norwegian PolarInstitute, said on Friday.

"This is the first time that such a long swimhas been documented by satellite telemetry forpolar bears," the institute added.

The female bear, equipped with a satellitetracking device, entered the water on the eastof the Norwegian Arctic island of Spitsbergen

early on July 20, swam north-east and re-emerged on the island of Edgeoya a day later.

A sensor on the bear's collar sent differentsignals when it was in salty sea watercompared to on land or on ice.

"This is an astonishing swim," Mr Aars said, saying it showed that polar bears could inmany ways be classified as marine mammals -a group including whales and dolphins.

Mr Aars said the bear had probably swumcloser to 100 kilometres since the bear almostcertainly did not swim the 74 kilometresbetween the two points in an exact straightline.

The bear covered the gap in about 24 hours,

giving an average speed of 3 to 4 km/h, aboutas fast as a person walking.

Health officials around the world hailed the decision by

Australia's high court, which stubbed out claims by tobacco

companies that the packaging of cigarettes without branding

    was unconstitutional.

The Australian decision raises the hopes of anti-tobacco forces

of similar moves in other nations. "We are elated with this

victory," said Bungon Ritthiphakdee, director of the Southeast

Asia Tobacco Control Alliance. "We also draw inspiration

from the Australian government for standing up against the

challenges from the tobacco industry for trying to block this

move -- and winning. This win for Australia prepares the path

for the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)."

"With Australia's victory, public health enters a brave new

world of tobacco control," said Dr. Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization.

Tobacco products in Australia must be in plain packaging

without logos and have graphic health warnings as of

December 1. It's the latest move in a global trend toward

packing that shows diseased organs, dying patients, skin

lesions or other medical maladies caused by smoking.

Canada was the first nation to pass legislation requiring a

graphic health warning in 2001 -- 41 nations have since

followed suit. Canada and 18 other nations require at least 50%

of the packaging to contain health warnings. Until the

Australian decision, the nation that required the most

prominent warning was Uruguay, where 80% of packages

    contain graphic health advisories.

Tobacco companies said the Australian ruling -- which would

eliminate iconic branding from appearing on the package --

would raise the amount ofcounterfeit products on the market,

eroding government taxes collected on tobacco.

Last year the United States unveiled nine graphic health

warning labels that must cover half the area of cigarette

    packages by this September.

'Wielding a glimmering machete, an insanely

angry Papa Barna pursues an unashamedly

naked Oyigbo the butcher out of his

compound. Picture him in sportswear and thelatter would rate high as an Olympic-level

sprinter for the effort he is making. Such is his

speed that long after this incident, there would

    be no consensus as to the true size of his penis;

no one sees that pendulum for more than a split

second. Even the Akpan twins, Paul and Silas,

who have the dubious honour of being knocked

out of the way as Oyigbo shoots into their

compound, would be unable to give their

classmate, Okoro the Lip, a detailed

description when he demands one. But they

would be able to attest to Oyigbo's speed and

ability to swerve, for he pulls a hairpin turn

around Papa Barna and doubles back towards

the main road right before their eyes.

Out on the main road, the chase blows on.

Abruptly, Oyigbo decides the road is making

it too easy for Papa Barna to gain on him. Sointo the bush he veers. He leaps over tree

stumps and cuts a swathe through the tropical

rainforest with the sheer force of his

    momentum.

Papa Barna, a man on a clearly defined

mission, resolute in the manner of a well-paid

assassin bent on earning his fee, tears afterOyigbo. He says nothing but runs with a

    determination that telegraphs a discomforting

message to Oyigbo: this man will not be

    stopped, no matter what.

Knowing what he knows, no one can

possibly blame Oyigbo for pushing himself

beyond his own imagination. However, a non-

person whose opinion matters a lot is not only

heaping blame but is complaining noisily in a

    most agitated way about Oyigbo's

thoughtlessness; his heart is on the verge of

    bursting ...

Oyigbo's heart has come close to burstingmany times in the past years.

"Oh, don't be so fast," Mama Barna would

"Yes, yes, no, no," Oyigbo would mostly be

    confused, his eyes rolling crazily.

Yet at such times, his heart, though close to

bursting only seconds earlier, would decelerate

    to a steady, sated rhythm.

This time, there had been neither deceleration

nor satisfaction before Oyigbo had to dash off.

And now his heart is threatening to burst forreal.

Being sharply aware that he would have no

need for a heart if he stops, Oyigbo presses on.

Papa Barna sails after him, stocky legs, blazing

eyes, glimmering machete and all. Papa Barna

His return from New Town on this fateful day

had begun happily enough. To begin with, the

mechanic worked fast on his motorcycle and

the repairs didn't cost half as much as he had

feared. Buying quite a large number of presents

for everyone in his household, including a new

bowler hat with a silk band and a red feather

stuck in it for himself, he had set off cheerfully

for the return journey, enjoying the new surge

compound struck him as odd. The girls may be

in the farm, he reasoned, and Baba - his pet

name for his son Barna - would either be

frolicking in the stream or still in school,

though not on account of any serious work. But

his wife ought to be around. He'd opened his

mouth to call out to her when he saw the cart.

His mouth stayed open but no words came out.

Slowly, almost as if he were some external

being other than himself, he went into the

house. He heard them before he reached his -

their - bedroom door. The passionate cries oflovemaking were unmistakable. Entranced, he

made his way silently to the store where he

kept his tools and things. The machete, usually

very heavy, felt almost weightless as he

clutched it and started back towards the

    bedroom.

His mind, however, had a lot of weight on it.

So his fears had been true! Human beings

being cursed in perpetuity with a selective

memory process, Papa Barna could only recall

that he'd always had doubts about Maria, his

first daughter. How could she really be his

when she looked so tall and fair when both he

and his wife were short and dark? She hadbeen born ten years before Baba and it had

taken five years after Baba's birth before the

twins, Ruth and Esther came along. And that

had been after numerous sacrifices to the gods.

He sadly recognised the truth; only Baba had

his blood; Maria, as well as Ruth and Esther -

already showing signs of being every inch as

tall and as fair as their elder sister - were ... Oh!

How would he live with the shame?

Mama Barna had a few seconds to scream

and utter a plea before the machete silenced her

with one blow. Papa Barna looked at the

blood-spurting body without feeling as he

wiped the machete on the bed sheets. In the

manner of a malfunctioning automaton, he nowfunctioned purely on a dispassionate

programme detailed to terminate the fleeing

    tall and fair Oyigbo ...

It is inevitable that a crowd should follow.

This, after all, is just a small village. However, not even the younger, more agile men can keep

up with the two shooting stars. Oyigbo, on a

    primordial self-preservation race simply can

not be bested. Papa Barna, on a self-divined,

    holy-inspired mission of honour-preservation

is ready to pay any price in his bid to exact the

ultimate price. In such company, leisurely

folks seeking amusement are in no position to

    keep up.

"I heard Lazarus telling Tom and Heekee that

his Uncle Jonathan said that Oyigbo did not

have a good heart," Okoro the Lip would later

    whisper to Paul and Silas.

"Could it have been an illness?" Paul would

    ask.

    "I don't know," would be Okoro's reply.

"Lazarus said that his Uncle Jonathan said that

Mama Barna has been marrying Oyigbo the

butcher. He knew but he didn't tell anybody. Then that day Oyigbo went and stayed inside

Papa Barna's house because he thought Papa

Barna will spend the whole day in New Town

    to repair his motorcycle."

"So what does his heart have to do with it?"

Silas would want to know, but Okoro's open

    palms would be his answer.

"They say the Long-Nosed One in New

Town has given the order for them to hang

    Papa Barna," Paul would reveal.

"I heard that too," Okoro would add. "Some

people are saying that it is not fair. Baba Soja

who killed more than ten people is still in

prison. Papa Barna killed only two and they are

    going to hang him."

"It must be because of his heart," Silas would

sum up. "Maybe they don't want whatever

happened to his heart to spread."

"But what really happened to his heart?"

    Paul would query.

    "I don't know," Okoro would pronounce. "I

only know that they said he didn't have a good

    heart."

As Oyigbo shoots on to the main pathway tothe village stream, a sharp, stabbing pain in his

chest draws an agonised scream from him. His

steps falter and simultaneously Papa Barna's

machete descends on him. Oyigbo goes down

    still screaming.

"Papa Barna, Please!" he coughs, spurting

blood. "I did it only once. PLEA--"

Papa Barna's second slash to the neck misses

and cuts deep into Oyigbo's shoulder, sending

the latter into another ear-piercing scream. The

third slash connects precisely as intended. And

so do the subsequent ones. Oyigbo the butcher

chokes in mid-scream and screams no more.
