By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to: Identify the word families
Construct sentences using words belonging to the same family.
Introduction: Introduce students to two words such as string and strong and elicit from them any common letters in these words.
Development: Tell students that there is a pattern among some words and so they are called word families because they belong to a group. Now write a list of words that belong to different word families. Make a group of four students and give them each a word. These groups will each come up with a list of words that belong to the same word family as the word that they have. After they have done writing words ask them to present it to the class. Once each group has presented they add those words in their wordbooks. Students will then pick two more words from their wordbooks, belonging to the same family, and write a short paragraph using any four words.
Written work: Students will complete the worksheet Working with words individually.
