LIVE THE LANGUAGE – OUR MOTTO

We believe there is more to learning English than just spending time in the classroom. To encourage students to practise speaking English and to expose them to native speakers in the community, we organise activities within the curriculum to encourage learning in everyday situations. The activities may include trips to businesses and sites of cultural and historical interest. Students will bring back information and experiences to share in the classroom.

CUSTOMISED ENGLISH LANGUAGE SHORT COURSES

EIT’s English Language Centre provides customised tours for groups of students wanting to study English. Each programme is structured to suit the needs of the individual group and normally includes specially designed English language classes and social community activities in the afternoons and weekends. English courses can be combined with subjects from other disciplines, such as agriculture and business, if a specialised focus of study is needed. Accommodation is arranged with homestay families.

Note: A group must have a minimum number of 10 people.

NZCEL & ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING TYPICAL TIMETABLE

The EIT English Language Proficiency Test is an assessment that can be used as an alternative to IELTS for admissions purposes into an EIT academic programme. Students who have not met our English language entry requirements (IELTS, TOEFL PTE or other recognised test) may take the ELPT as an alternative to meet the requirements. Students in this position are either contacted by EIT directly during the applications process or may contact EIT for information about taking the test and their eligibility to do so. Contact: [email protected]

IELTS TESTING CENTRE

EIT is a registered British Council IELTS Test Centre offering exams throughout the year. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English language test for study, work and migration, with more than 2.2 million tests taken each year. The IELTS exam fee is $385.00. Contact: [email protected] to book a test.

This is a typical timetable for students studying the NZCEL or the English Language Training Scheme. The timetable offers a balance of core English language class time with practical extension sessions and time for self-study. In addition to this structured learning approach, students will have the opportunity to learn English outside the classroom while participating in class outings and trips to other places in New Zealand.

STUDY HOURS: 20 hours with a teacher and 17 hours of independent study. This equates to 37 hours a week of learning.

NZCEL TO IELTS EQUIVALENCIES LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Students undertaking the NZCEL and Training Schemes will have many opportunities to practice their English outside the classroom. Classes will head out to locations such as the museum, the port, the farm and even to other cities outside Hawke’s Bay. These field trips provide a great platform for students to use their language in a real life context.
