IIT JEE 2013 PROPOSED EXAM PATTERN
Newly Proposed IIT-JEE 2013 Pattern
For IITs/ NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs (Councils of Central
Government-funded Technical Institutions)
For IITs
A ranking list will be drawn solely on the basis
ofJEE Advance, provided student gets top 20percentile in their 12th board and ranks within
1.5 lacs in JEE Main exam.

IIT 2013 NEW PATTERN IN NUTSHELL
The joint entrance examination (JEE) will be intwo parts main and advanced from 2013
There will be a 3-4 weeks time gap between thetwo exams
The new test is amalgamation of the All IndiaEngineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) andthe IIT-JEE, where main exam will be equivalentto AIEEE, and advanced will be equivalent to the
IIT-JEE Only top 150,000 candidates from the JEE-main
will be qualified to appear for JEE-advanced

Admission to IITs will be based on the rank in JEE-advanced
Students should be ranked among the top 20 percentile of their
respective Class XII board to considered eligible for the IITs
While JEE-main will be held by the Central Board of Secondary
Education (CBSE), JEE-advanced will be held by the IITs
Admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian
Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) will be based on scores
from JEE-main
Several deemed universities can also use the scores of JEE-main
exam to admit students after they fix a minimum percentage criteria

For NIT admissions: 60% weight age for JEE Main
NIT Council decided that the NIT system would consider 40% weightage
for performance in class XII Board marks normalized on percentile basisand the remainder 60% weight age would be given for performance in
JEE Main and a combined merit list would be decided accordingly. This
system would be implemented from 2013. The members of the Council
resolved to facilitate implementation of the new admission policy in close
coordination with the For NIT Admissions: 40% weight age to 12th
boards CBSE. The Council authorized its Chairman to constitute a
Committee consisting of a few Directors, Chairman COBSE and other
experts to look into the issues relating to normalization of class XII Board
marks on percentile basis.

Deemed Universities:
Admission to Deemed universities will be based on JEE Mains and HSC
scores. But the weightage of these exams will be considered by the
individual university.
About Other Govt. And private Colleges.
Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh to adopt JEE in 2013:
Mantha (Chairman, AICTE)
Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) SS
Mantha on Saturday said that Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra
Pradesh have agreed to adopt a single nationwide Joint Entrance
Examination (JEE) for admissions to engineering colleges in 2013.
However, the states are yet to decide how much weightage they willgive to JEE results and class XII board exam scores for admission to the
state-run colleges, he added.

As of now, the Central government funded institutions have decided their own
weight age systems. While the IITs will take into consideration the top 20 percentile of
each of the boards, the NITs are for 40-60 ratio of boards marks to JEEs. The state
government-run colleges are yet to decide what combination of weight ages they
want for their admissions, he said. Talking about the initial opposition to the single
entrance exam, he said, We understand the concerns of students, teachers and
parents. Students are worried that if they are unable to perform well on that
particular day owing to ill health or other reasons, they might end up losing an entire
academic year. To solve this problem, we're currently looking at the possibility of
conducting two exams a year along the lines of the Common Management Aptitude

Note: Other states apart from the states mentioned above have to take a decision
about their status regarding JEE Mains. We will let you know as soon as it is available.

colleges, 138 govt-run and 133 under private management.
