Sports News National Athletics Championships – Brisbane Wow what a great time the “Team Vic” competitors had in Brisbane last week during the School Sport Australia National Track & Field Primary Championships. Carli F, Matthew S and I spent 6 days from last Friday 22 to Wednesday 26

th November in

Brisbane. Carli & Matt competed against all the other States and Territories in their individual events. Victoria was very successful in breaking 18 national records in different events. Matthew was one of our successful athletics in actually creating a record in his class as a Para Athlete in the Vision Impaired Class in Shot Put. Matthew came 4

th in his competition against all the

other athletes as well as 6th in the discus. Matthew hasn’t competed in discus before so we are thrilled that he actually had a go

at it. Carli won a bronze medal in the 12 yr girls 4 x 100 relay, 1st in the Long Jump Relay , 3

rd in the 8 x 100m relay and 3

rd in

the Shot Put relay. They had a sensational time, as well as making lots of new friends. Congratulations to both of you, we are very proud of you.

Interschool Sport Rounders Finals The Girls Rounders Division final will be played against Dorset Primary School this Friday at 2.00pm on our school oval. Good luck girls. The Boys Rounders final will be played next Friday 13

th against Park Orchards Primary School at 10.00am on our

school oval. These 2 games are Summer sports which our teams won District finals in Term 1. These finals are being played so late because the final now stops here and it does not progress to any level after this. We wish both teams the best of luck.

Junior House Sports The Junior House Sports are being run tomorrow on the main oval commencing at 9.00am. Children can come dressed in their house colors and bring their parents to watch and join in. The Year 6 Sports Captains are going to assist with the activities, which will run until recess.

Billy Cart Grand Prix and Soap Box Derby The Annual Senior School Billy Cart Grand Prix is being held on the last day of the term this year as usual. Children can make their own billy cart and dress up in a theme. There is a trophy for the winning boys team and girls team and best dressed. Then

we have the Soap Box Derby for the Early learning, Juniors and Middle classes, where the children make their carts from cardboard boxes. You need to be with a partner so the 2 of you fit into the one box, half way through the race, you change position in the box, and continue to race. The winning pair will receive a medal, with the other participants receiving a participation certificate. Come along and join in the fun girls and boys and make your own cart and decorate it. CHRISTMAS CAROLS CONCERT

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 11TH, 7PM - MAIN OVAL

Info for the Carols Concert

Early Learning

ELW/V/O – “Santa You’re Much Too Fat ELH/SH/R - “Christmas Conga” Costumes - Hand made Christmas T-Shirts

Juniors

JRD/MO/PB - “Santa Bring Me a Dinosaur” Costumes - If they have a dinosaur t-shirt/mask they could wear that, otherwise anything Christmassy works too.

Mids MDK/U/L - “You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch” Costumes - Claudia is making Grinch masks with them during art. Other than that they have been asked to wear as much green as possible. If they don’t have green, Xmas colours, t-shirts etc will work. MDB/T - “Cowboy Christmas” Costumes - Cowboy Xmas hats if they have them. Jeans, checkered shirts, boots, acubra hats etc (like the gear the cowboys wore for production this year)

Seniors “What Does The Reindeer Say?” Costumes - Animal “onesies” if they have them, or any kind of animal mask (preferably an animal that is mentioned in the lyrics of the song). Otherwise reindeer antlers and Christmas clothing would be great.

Children aren't expected to purchase anything special at all for their costumes. They can use clothing that they already have at home. Keep it simple and just dress the outfit up with a Christmas hat or ornament of some kind.

**Please note, children should be seated on the oval in their class groups by 6.45pm.

Library News

Scholastic Book Club The books have now been delivered. I have two books in the Library office that did not find a home so if you believe that your order was incomplete please come and see me. I will need the title of the book that you believe that you are missing. There were a large number of items that were ordered but unavailable. Scholastic is quite generous with these. They supply an item and also a credit voucher. From memory there are instructions on the voucher if you want to send it back to scholastic and get a refund.

Overdue Library books It is disappointing to see the number of student library books that are still outstanding. As of yesterday (Wednesday) there were still 193 books still out in students’ names. Letters will be sent out next week. Sue Offer - Library Technician

THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE

Mr Mc has been too challenged to find a new challenge for this week!

LAST WEEK’S CHALLENGE Two mothers and two daughters went out to eat, everyone ate one burger,

yet only three burgers were eaten in all. How is this possible?

They were a grandmother (also a mother), a mother (also a daughter) and a daughter! Well done to Claire MdU and Alex ELSH and their Mum! Mr Mc will come and see you and give you your prize. Mr Mc will come and see you and give you your prize.

CHAPS NEWS We had a great night on Monday night at our Christmas dinner and AGM. I am really happy to say that we managed to form a full committee for next year without having to twist any arms! There seems to be an increasing desire for parents to help out and it is making a real difference. The committee is made up of the following people:

President Justine Wratten Vice-President Kylie Van Roosmalen Secretary Holly Unwin Treasurer Elise Jones Fundraising Co-ordinator Keddie Waller Fundraising assistants Sally Harley Natalie Wilson Morning Tea Co-ordinator Sandra Horgan Mothers/Fathers Day Stall Organisers Traci College Alison Tough

Next year our committee will make a real effort to find out what it is that the parent want from CHAPS and how we can make the school a better place for the parents as well as the children. We look forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions.

Just a reminder that money for the Christmas raffle tickets are due back by Friday. The prizes are great and will be drawn at the Carols night on 11/12. We will again be doing a sausage sizzle on the night of the Christmas carols . We will be serving from 5.30-6.45.

In the meantime, if you have any questions at all about CHAPS, please do not hesitate to contact me.

LOST PROPERTY SALE THERE WILL BE A SALE OF ALL UNNAMED LOST PROPERTY NEXT THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12

th OUTSIDE THE CANTEEN.

Items for sale include school uniform, lunch boxes and drink bottles.

The cost of all items is a gold coin donation.

On the last Thursday of term there will be a final opportunity to collect any lost items. Any unclaimed items will be sent to a charity. We have discovered a small number of brand new, but unused, Year 6 tops from 2000, 2006, 2010 and 2011 – printed with the names of year 6 students in those years. These are available to any families whose children ’s names appear and who may like to collect them from the office – no charge, we’d like to see them go to loving homes!

SCHOOL CROSSING CLOSURES The crossing on Plymouth Rd, outside Luther College, will not be

supervised and will therefore be closed from this Friday, December

6th.

Students who need to cross Plymouth Rd should use the Lighted

Crossing outside Good Shepherd, but parents should note that this

crossing will not be supervised from Monday December 16th.

As I am retiring from School Crossing duties on the last day of Term 4 I would like to say how much I have enjoyed my time crossing all the children on the corner of Croydon Hills Drive and Campaspe Drive.

The children are delightful and a credit to themselves, their parents and the school. I will miss reading the school newsletter and congratulating those who have done well at sport, music or art and wishing them a happy birthday on their special day. I love all the show and tell items going to school and the imaginative creations being brought home, made from cereal packs and alfoil rolls, also the tales about excursions and camps.

Thank you to all the parents and staff who drive by with a friendly wave each day, a sympathetic look in the cold, wet and windy weather and the occasional icy pole on really hot days. I am going to miss my association with the school at the Fair and Production Night, however it is time for my husband and I to smell the roses, travel and enjoy our Grandchildren.

Wishing everyone all they wish themselves for a happy, healthy life, especially for Christmas and the New Year. Elizabeth
