U.S. CHAMBER’S INSTITUTE PROGRAM AWARDS SAM’S CLUB® SCHOLARSHIP TO ERIN WILLIAMS OF O’FALLON, MISSOURI

nstitute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Foundation, announced today that Erin Williams, President/CEO of the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a Sam’s Club® Scholarship. Awarded to 20 fi rst-year attendees from across the country, the Sam’s Club scholarships recognize individuals that exhibit excellent nonprofi t management practices in several areas, including involvement in professional industry organizations, community involvement and demonstrated leadership.

“The U.S. Chamber is proud to partner with Sam’s Club to provide these dedicated professionals the opportunity to attend Institute and educate them on how to better represent their members and expand their organizations’ infl uence,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, vice president of Institute for Organization Management at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “We are pleased to help these talented individuals advance their careers and organizations, and we appreciate the commitment from Sam’s Club to the business community.”

Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has educated tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofi t leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members, and become strong business advocates.

Each of the Sam’s Club scholarship recipients will attend one of Institute’s fi ve sites in 2013. At the completion of the four-year curriculum, each of the recipients will receive the IOM graduate recognition, signifying completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofi t management and their commitment to the industry. The results are in! Thank you to each of you who took the time to complete the 2013 Membership Survey. This survey will help to

guide our programs and services for the betterment of our organization. Before I get into the results, I would also like to thank all of our volunteers who participated in Operation Thank You and to those of you who took time out of your day to talk with our volunteers about how our organization can serve you better. We truly appreciate the feedback and understand that by serving our member businesses better we will achieve our vision of being the catalyst for prosperity. Although Operation Thank You has offi cially ended, and our Membership Survey has closed, know that you are always welcome to contact staff or Board members to discuss how the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce can continue to improve.

Now, onto the results. You told us that on a scale of 1-5 (5 being excellent) we are a 4.52; although that number is great and something we’re proud of, we will continue to strive towards a perfect 5! Members also told us the main features that they take advantage of are our networking opportunities, community exposure/involvement and referrals. The survey also told us to work on more informal networking opportunities as well as increased advertising opportunities to other members. These are all areas that the Board will be researching to expand and/or increase in order to serve you better.

Again, thank you for your participation, and I look forward to seeing you at our May 28 general membership meeting.

I have lived in O’Fallon since 1995, the same year I started my real estate career. We moved to O’Fallon along with

my husband’s company Peterbilt of St. Louis. O’Fallon was a great place to raise our children Amy and Scott. I attribute part of their success as adults to the community they grew up in.

I hold my commercial brokerage

license with Thomas Realty Group LLC. They are a boutique fi rm, such as St Charles County. We can assist a client through the investment and procurement of a commercial project to the development, construction, management, exchange of investment to the leasing or relinquishing of the asset.

Whether it’s leasing, purchasing or selling, my strength is helping

a client understand a real estate transaction on a fi nancial level. Using my knowledge along with their non-tangible needs, I can assure my client has met their real estate goals which best fi t their business plan.

A constant study of the economy, the fi nancing industry and the real estate market is making for some exciting times.

1 Rack of Baby Back Ribs- skinned1 Stick of Margarine or ButterYour choice of seasoning- we prefer Fat Pat’s Rib Rub (sold at Jeremy’s Market) FoilJeremy’s BBQ Sauce- Original or Kansas City Style

Rub down the rack of ribs with your choice of seasoning, place it in a foil wrap with a stick of butter or margarine on top. Let it cook on the grill or in the oven at 350* for 1 hour. If you are cooking on the grill, unwrap after 1 hour and place on the grill plates for a few minutes on each side to get that crispy texture. Then cover with your choice of BBQ sauce and enjoy!

Presented byIndependence Day while stationed half way around the world. Participants will have fun as well as challenge themselves while at Camp Phoenix in Afghanistan.

“Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen enjoy the shadow runs because they are great for morale, and they allow for us to be normal and not have to wear a service issued PT uniform for the run.” Maj Eric Peterson said when asked why they enjoyed shadow runs. “I would like to thank the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce for allowing us to participate in this great event.”

“We are so proud to be a part of

our soldiers’ Independence Day celebration. I hope that we are able to give them a feeling of home, while reminding our residents here of the men and women who fi ght and protect us every day. O’FALLON RECEIVES STORMREADY RECOGNITION

The City of O’Fallon was recently recognized as a StormReady community by the National Weather

Service, which sponsors the program. To be recognized as StormReady, communities must demonstrate severe weather readiness and meet communication and other guidelines established by the National Weather Service in partnership with federal, state and local emergency management programs.

“We can be proud of O’Fallon’s designation as a StormReady community,” said Police Offi cer Andy Stowers. “As we saw this month, with spring storms following on the heels of severe winter weather, it’s important to know when major storms are coming and be prepared to deal with them.”

StormReady is a voluntary “grassroots” program and there is no cost to apply. Sponsored by NOAA’s National Weather Service, StormReady puts the focus on improving communication and severe weather preparedness in communities. It also helps

community leaders and emergency managers strengthen local hazard mitigation and refi ne emergency response plans.

To earn the designation, communities must:• Establish a 24-hour Warning Point and Emergency Operations Center• Establish multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and alert the public• Create a system that monitors local weather conditions• Promote public readiness through community seminars, severe weather spotter training and by conducting emergency exercises• Incorporate severe weather threats into the community’s hazard mitigation and emergency response plans

The StormReady program benefi ts communities by:• Improving the timeliness and effectiveness of hazardous weather warnings for the public• Providing clear, detailed recommendations which will help communities establish and improve effective hazardous weather operations

• Supporting hazardous weather mitigation programs that have achieved a desired performance level• Providing an incentive to communities which, once they are recognized, can identify themselves as being StormReady• Helping ensure that the community is prepared for other civil emergencies.

For more information about StormReady, visit www.stormready.noaa.gov/publications.htm.

Visiting Angels Westplex Ownership Change, Lamartinas Announce RetirementWe are pleased to announce that we have fi nally made the diffi cult decision that it is time to retire. As a result, we will be transitioning out of the Visiting Angels offi ce over the next couple of months. Making this change in our lives possible, are the new Visiting Angels owners– Joe and Amy Deters of Wildwood, MO. Joe and Amy will be an excellent addition to the management team that you’ve come to know over the years. They bring a high degree of passion and experience to the table and we believe they are the perfect candidates to nurture the legacy that we have been building over the past four years.

While a change of this nature may create feelings of uncertainty, we will make every effort to create a smooth transition. Most aspects of our offi ce routine will remain the same under the new owners. Our offi ce staff – Jen, Michelle, Donna, Lana and Natalie will continue in their offi ce roles and you, like our other caregivers, will continue with your current clients and schedule. In fact, most aspects of Visiting Angels will continue in the same way as in the past.

We will be working with Joe and Amy over the next several weeks to transition the offi ce seamlessly and continue the excellent services provided by Visiting Angels.

Thank you for your ongoing contributions to Visiting Angels. Please call me if you have any questions.
