In 2010 alone, Americans—with the help of ENERGY STAR—saved nearly $18 billion on their energy bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the annual emissions of 33 million vehicles.

― Maximum product start-up and warm-up times

― A two-year warranty for residential use

― Product equivalency claim guidelines

― Color quality and consistency

What is efficacy?Efficacy is the measure of lighting efficiency and is calculated by dividing the light output (measured in lumens) by the electricity used (measured in watts). Like miles per gallon, the more lumens per watt (lm/W or lpw), the more you get for your money.

ENERGY STAR qualified CFL light bulbs only need to be changed once every 7 years on average, compared with an annual ladder-climb for standard incandescent light bulbs—convenient for hard to reach fixtures.

ENERGY STAR Bulb Benefits: Longer Life

An ENERGY STAR qualified LED light bulb can last 15,000 – 50,000 hours. That means, based on normal use, a bulb installed in a newborn's nursery won't have to be changed until he or she graduates from college!

• ENERGY STAR light bulbs are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and applications. Always:– Read the packaging!

– Ensure the bulb will work in the appropriate socket

– Find your preferred light color (i.e. Warm vs Cool white)

– Check the lumen rating (measure of light output)

• The higher the lumens, the brighter the light

Did You Know?

• Only bulbs marked “dimmable” or “three-way” work with those switch types.

• For recessed cans, only choose bulbs marked “Indoor Reflector” or “For Indoor Use.”

Read manufacturer product packaging to ensure that you purchase the appropriate bulb!

ENERGY STAR Light Bulbs:Color & MoodChoosing the right color:

– Light color is measured on a temperature scale referred to as Kelvin (K)

– Bulbs with lower K have more yellow light

– Bulbs with higher K have whiter or bluer light

– Most ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs match the color of incandescent bulbs: 2,700-3,000K.

– For a brighter look, find bulbs marked:

• 3500-4100K for whiter, cool-white light

• 5000-6500K for bluer, natural light
