Earlier in AHU rooms tube-lights were ON all the times even though no man power is

available there. Hence we have introduced a guard switch. These lights will get ON

when any one enter the room and put the guard switch on the pocket. All the

technicians are briefed about the system

Switching off of the high mast lamps which are not required for the operations and

doesn’t impact the safety at the apron area. Considering the actual requirements of the

taxiing aircrafts and in order to achieve the required illumination levels it has been

proposed to switch off the 50% of the isolation bay high mast lamps, also realigning the

angles of the luminaries and reorienting the same so as to provide the effective

illumination required for carrying out the safe operations

Utilization of Waste Materials as Fuel

Initiatives taken by BIAL on recycling of waste material

All the Solid Wastes of the airport is being

processed scientifically.

After extracting the Biogas the expelled material is

converted to Compost.

The Pet bottle, plastic, polythene etc. sent to

authorised recyclers.

Newspaper & waste papers are sending to ITC Ltd

for recycling.

Tetra packs are send to an SAHAS (NGO) an

authorised institution for collecting the tetra packs.

Glass bottles are separated for coloured Glass &

others, it is send for Pulverising Industries for

recycling.

Best Practices Adopted

Introduction of roof glazing system in terminal

building to minimize the day time light usage.

Lighting system is controlled through Lux sensor

inside as well as outside the terminal building.

Use of motion sensors installed in BBA area,

near belt area, PBB passage way and some

toilets to avoid unnecessary glowing of lights.

Maintaining power factor 0.99 to reduce losses

as reactive power component is reduced. The

PF can be improved by installing capacitor

banks

Conversion of conventional lights with LED

lights.

Use of variable frequency drives (VFDs) for

pumps, motors & chillers.

Reshuffling of UPS for their optimum utilization.

Use of solar energy to reduce grid energy

Environmental Activities & Initiatives

Waste Collection Centre

The waste collection center is constructed to handle the waste

generated in airport by means of scientific method of

segregation and recycling. It is constructed in environment

friendly manner. The roof top of the waste collection center is

fixed with transparent roof for natural light illumination due

to which the activities at waste collection center takes place

without light during day time. The main idea of this structure

is to save power. The activities at waste collection center are

planned in day time only. The roof mounted exhaust system

runs on wind energy to eliminate the foul smell through roof

top resulting in no energy consumed as well the exhaust is

directed upward direction thus eliminating the foul smell at

ground level. The platform of the waste collection center is

raised by 10 ft. from ground level in order to avoid any rain

water entry or animals.
