were installed at the back of the fire and when the fire was on it would heat up the water .This was pumped around the house to heat radiators

• But turf and coal was still in use

• Electric fire would also heat up homes

they move on to oil and gas central heating

• In Ireland gas was discovered off the coast in the sea and was used to heat homes, schools and buildings

banned the use of coal in the main cities because when there was low air pressure the smoke mixed with fog to make smog.

• This was bad for peoples lungs.
