uspicious festival of Mahashivaratri falls on the 13th or the 14th night of the new Amoon during Krishna Paksha in the Hindu

month of Phalgun. This year it falls on 20th February. Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the 'Tandava'. It is also believed that on this day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Ma. On this day devotees observe fast and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga.

Since many people observe fast on Mahashivratri, thandai will give a soothing and refreshing effect.

Finely grind all the soaked ingredients, using little water. Tie this paste in a muslin cloth and extract the juices as much as possible. The extract is then mixed with milk, remaining water, sugar, saffron, cardamom powder and rose water. Mix well few times. Serve chilled.

Use Cool Water : Use water as a first aid until the pain subsides. It cools down the skin and also reduces burning sensation in the affected area.

Make use of the Good old Toothpaste : When applied on minor burns that do not involve open wounds, application of toothpaste immediate relief by cooling. It also prevents maturation or opening of the wound.

Avoid Lotions of any Kind : Butter, oils or lotions should never be applied to burns as they only worsen it by clogging the pores further.

Do Not Panic : In the rare case that you have caught fire do not give in to panic as it will only worsen your case. Do not run as that can spread the fire around your surroundings too. Instead, lie down on the floor and roll slowly and call for help. Make sure the other person covers you with a blanket and pours cool water over it for a while.

Visit a Doctor : Nothing can beat medical help under any despite of all the home first aid. Rush the patient or yourself to a clinic or hospital if the burn is major or involves vital areas like eyes, feet, genitalia and major joints.

A city where every impossible is possible and unbelievable happens.Where telephone bills make a person sickWhere a person cannot sleep without a sleeping pill.Where college canteens are full and classes empty.Where a cycle reaches faster than a car.Where everyone thinks himself to be a bollywood star.Where people first act and then think.Where there is more water in the pen than ink.Where the beggars are richer than hardworking educated citizens.Where education of college and hospital admissions mean hand cash on table.Where cement is frequently mixed with ash.Where millions move every year for living and love it.
