Church Staff Rev. Scott Stancil Pastor Ricky Stark Minister of Students & Education Carol Petty CDC Director Hayley Smith Ministry Intern Encourager THE FIRST BAPTIST LYMAN WEEK OF APRIL 7, 2010 Family and Friends, What an incredible Easter Sunday we shared together. The music and fellowship were so good! And the Lord certainly blessed us with perfect weather. Did you notice the beautiful plants and flowers in front of the sanctuary? Matthew and Larry Arms organized a group of 30 volunteers this past Saturday to plant and spread mulch. It looks so nice. Thanks to all who helped! Thanks also to the group from our church who built a ramp for a family in need. You guys are awesome! This Sunday begins a new series on Sunday mornings on Matthew 5 - 7, the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus’ teachings were so practical. He’s revealing several important things for us to remember. First, we’re declared righteous through our faith and by God’s grace. It’s not works or observing the law. Secondly, Jesus shows us how we should live based upon our righteousness in Christ. In other words, He tells us how to live like we’re saved! Thirdly, the result of being declared righteous and living accordingly is that we are blessed. Simply put, we experience the fullness of God. I enjoy practical teaching, and Jesus was the best at it! Pray for the Music Ministry Search Team as they continue their process of calling a Minister of Music and Senior Adults. The need for this position on our ministry team reaches far beyond Sunday morning worship. I’m excited to know that God has already ordained this process and the individual that He will lead us to call. I love you all! You’re such a blessing to me. As I begin my third year at Lyman I have great expectations and dreams of what I believe the Lord will do in and through our church. Don’t miss it! I stumbled across a great quote today while reading the book

Apologetics for a New Generation It said ldquoWe should love reason

because we love God A good sign for a properly developing

Christian culture is its commitment to reasonrdquo Many people pit

faith and reason against each other This just isnrsquot an accurate view

of faith at all Faith is not believing against the evidencemdashfaith is believing in

accordance with the evidence of Godrsquos Word and of Godrsquos character Christianity

is a rational faith and it corresponds with reality There are absolutely NO

internal contradictions and nothing has ever been discovered that can disprove

any of Christianityrsquos tenets or the truthfulness of Godrsquos WordmdashNOTHING We

have good reason to believe as we do The last couple of Sunday nights we saw

in our study of the canon and of scriptural translation that our faith is completely

rational and withstands any test Letrsquos continue to go deeper into Godrsquos Word

and to continue to think deeply concerning our faith ldquoalways being prepared to

make a defense to anyone who asks [us] for a reason for the hope that is in

[us]rdquo (1 Pet 315) Let us commit with new resolve to be thinking Christians

translation further you might want to check out the following
